Question:

I was just thinking after watching the latest 3d clash of the titans movie that perseus wasn't much of a hero in this new movie relative to the original 1981 clash of the titans. i went out and then watched all of the early 80s movies on netflix online in that genre... then found dragonslayer... that guy was a true "hero". okay maybe i need to get out of the house more often. so, no... i haven't seen any recent hero movies that meet that definition.

Answer:

I couldn't help but notice that the majority of "superheroes" these days don't have superpowers. So I took a look at the Wikipedia page, and it seems the consensus is that they aren't necessarily a prerequisite; a "costumed character" who isn't endowed with any superhuman powers can be a superhero, as can "an exceptionally skillful or successful person". But surely, a superhero should at least be superheroic, even if no special abilities are required? Again according to Wikipedia, a hero is someone who, "in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, displays courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good of all humanity, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence." So, by that definition, out of all the recent "superhero" movies, were there any heroes at all? I don't see any, offhand, but what do you think?
