You will need to prove to the bank's satisfaction that you indeed did not receive what you paid for. The merchant also has the right to contest your claim. And deadlines apply. They are not the same for every credit card and there are different deadlines for different circumstances. For these reasons, in the event of a complex transaction dispute, you may require the type of assistance we provide to explain to the banks why you are in the right. The chargeback guidelines issued by the card networks are tedious and complicated and are hundreds of pages long, so the dialogue with the bank has to be conducted on a professional level.
