Just trying out the free version, as I don't really have need for online storage myself. I was just curious to see what the service was like in use. I already use Evernote for online storage, which is incredibly useful, and Google Docs, and I have some hosted webspace, so the only benefit to me of running this service is the automatic backups that I can just set and forget. With my current machine and an average AT&T DSL line, it would take about a year to backup my data the first time around, so this isn't really for me.

I would definitely recommend taking the free 2Gb offer and trying out the service for yourself, experimenting with balancing service speed and PC performance to see what you can squeeze out of it. You can also try throttling it down so that it occupies a certain fraction of your bandwidth and see the effect. I was surprised to find how flexible the software is, and given the speed of my laptop it was very handy to be able to give my local performance precedence over the uploading.

Some time after I reviewed this one I signed up for the free version, and found that if I refer people and they sign up for the free version too, I get an extra 1Gb storage for every two signups and each referred person gets a half gig extra too. That's 2.5Gb free storage each.

If anyone is thinking of trying out Mozy anyway and would like to share some extra free storage space with me, please use the following URL: https://mozy.com/?ref=LZ349C
