Hello Tamara! All gold plating can wear over time, especially if frequently exposed to things such as soap, water, and even perspiration. Below you will find some tips on caring for plated jewelry that will help to keep the finish looking great.
1. Avoid washing your hands with your plated jewelry on, as soap and overexposure to water can impact your gold finish over time.
2. Wait until after you have put on perfume, lotion, or makeup to put on your jewelry
3. Take off your rings and bracelets prior to cleaning, doing dishes, or before chopping acidic fruits and vegetables
4. Try to prevent hitting your jewelry with objects such as countertops and keys
5. Never exercise, swim, or bathe in your jewelry
6. Clean your plated jewelry gently without excessive rubbing using warm water, and dry thoroughly. Use a very mild soap only if necessary.
7. Store your gold-plated jewelry in a pouch or soft cloth separate from other jewelry
These tips not only work well for extending the life of your gold-plated jewelry but for all gold jewelry in general. As the gold finish wears with time, keep in mind that re-plating is an option that can make your plated jewelry look brand new again!
