We are looking at a home in galway, ireland. i am suppose to send them 250 euro to reserve for our september week long stay. they are asking me to submit via paypal but to select "i'm sending money to family or friends" because if i select "for business or service" will incur much higher fees, when in fact it is the exact opposite. so now i see a red flag and i wonder if they are a scam. do you guarantee vacation rentals posted on your site are legitimate? helene l.

Never used this before, how do i know that i am really going to have this home? i don't trust people, but i love the thoughts of using a house instead of hotel. how am i sure this is a real home and i am paying a real person who is on the up and up?

Answer:

One way you can assure yourself is to contact the owner directly. There should be a phone number that connects you to them. We always talk directly to our renters/potential renters. That way, they know you are real and I know that they are real. There are a lot of scams out there and you have to be careful. If you get suspicious-looking email, contact them and tell them what you are looking for and ask intelligent questions about their property. I also ask our future guests what they are coming to the area for. Do they plan to have a lot of people in the house? We negotiate terms and price. That way, we're both happy.
