It is not safe at all. This is supposed to be a platform to bring an artist and someone seeking original material from individuals. Freelancer does NOTHING to ensure original material and if any issues arise, they pass the process back to you to chase up with the person who provided unoriginal material even after you provide Freelancer evidence confirming the same. This is a very poor run sight and if you have issues and raise a complaint, pathetic service in fixing the issue. We had this problem, took us over 3 months to come to some resolution, and only after many emails with legal threats... their response was always very none commital and were trying to assume we would go away. Don't risk your money... you get get trusted work locally where you are, or find another site, this site is PATHETIC.

As an 'employer' you can run a contest, get freelancers to submit samples for your logo then cancel the contest without any backlash on your part. This is what 99% of people do and why the site is terrible. Stay clear. If you want a good quality design, hire a professional...

I actually think it might be safer from a buyer point of view. I had work that never got completed from not just one freelancer but a few. I was outsourcing and lost work on the strength of it

It's unfair to run a contest for a logo because it means many people will have put hours of work into the contest who won't get picked. Hire a professional who will design you a good logo. Generally they provide a few different samples.
