Can I bid outside of esnipe just to start the bidding on ebay and still use e snipe for the same auction to win.

Yes you can bid, eSnipe doesn't know or care about your other bids - it only does the last 'snipe' you program it to.
But if you do bid on an item you're telegraphing your interest in the item to other bidders. Doing a minimum bid does prevent the seller from modifying the listing so I guess if you want that you can enter your lowest bid and wait for your eSnipe bid to activate at the end of the auction.
