I agree Chris. Bordercuts needs to take a lesson on spamming review sites with good reviews. So obviously a bad site with so many negative reviews.

When a bunch of reviews for a site arrive on the same day, especially if they are all positive or all negative, it's generally worth taking a second look at the site. In this case I'd just observe a couple of things, I haven't used the site myself so as far as I know, you can judge for yourselves from the reviews.

However, do note that although the site does display the Authorized.net Verified Merchant badge:

" Authorize.Net does not guarantee, represent or warrant the performance of the merchant or that the merchant will securely or accurately process all of its transactions through the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway, or complies with applicable federal or state data protection laws."

In other words, you can be a member, but there's no guarantee you're using the services. Authorize.net does not guarantee that the merchant member will be complying with the law, or even that he processes the bills accurately.

This merchant is using a ready-made online storefront system which is supplied by Volusion, at www.volusion.com. It's a system for small businesses, suited particularly to one-man operations which can't afford their own web design and management services. The design is a template into which, if you have the skills, you may drop your own content. You can see an almost identical site at www.shamelesscommerce.com, also a Volusion shopfront.

The company offers their merchant customers a secure payment gateway system of their own, which integrates with systems such as Authorize.net, Google Checkout and even PayPal.

However, note that this particular site is not using a secure gateway. The page into which you enter your credit or debit card details is NOT secure, nor does it become secure when checking your credit card number.

Although this is not by definition a sign that a merchant is dishonest or unreliable, it is now generally accepted by everyone trading online that it is so easy to operate a secure gateway these days, that anyone who doesn't bother should be avoided. Certainly, at minimum the transmission of sensitive personal information must be done from a secure page from which information is encrypted. Two ways to identify a secure page are to look for an address beginning with "https" instead of "http", and a small golden padlock somewhere at the bottom right of your browser window. This site's customer information entry page has neither.

In broad terms, when choosing to purchase from a general wholesaler or retailer which doesn't specialize in any particular area, or does not manufacture a product range of its own, it's often wise to shop around since there are many, many sites selling similar products. And it's also worth checking places like Amazon first, which may be overpriced but does often have customer reviews that smaller wholesalers and retailers don't have. For example, this item:

http://www.amazon.com/RJ-4200-Professional-Karaoke-Player-Microphones/dp/B00153LT42/ref=sr_1_8?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1285897899&sr=1-8

Which you can buy at the Bordercuts site as well as many others, is described by Amazon customers as a heap of junk. Always worth knowing.
