I want to train for the 145 mi. Camino de Santiago trail in Spain. I live in No. Calif. Which bike would you recommend? I have been a road cyclist for over 25 years.

The trail is mostly paved, I have a Century Café Pro that would make this an easy ride

I've mountain biked for years, but know nothing about the trail you're going to ride. The bike I bought is a good do some of anything bike. Your drive train and brakes are important. I like at least 27 speeds hydraulic disc brakes. A lock out fork for tough long rides. I lean towards sram drive train. I have found 29 tires great on trails. Your budget is going to decide what you end up with. Full suspension is my next buy. I'm trail riding a lot and go down hill fast. You will spend double for a bike in that bracket. Good tires, right bars, and saddle are huge

Personally, any bike would do. It's your training PLAN that matters. Intervals and base miles! As for the trail itself, I prefer hard tail cross country bikes for the control & feel.
