I formerly used Google for search, but in recent years (writing this in 2019) the company has become so politicized that their search results don't represent anything except the bias of the management. Very sad. It didn't have to be like this.

I don't know how the BBB got the reputation of helping consumers; if you ever actually try to use their service you will find that the BBB is only there to shore up the reputations of shady businesses and to give them plausible deniability in dealing with consumer complaints. My opinion of the BBB is so low -- I assume that, if a business is a member, they must be trying to hide something or trying to find a way to make it look like they address consumer complaints, when they don't -- that if presented with a choice between a BBB registered business and a non-BBB registered business, I would probably choose the latter.

I had an experience much like another reviewer here on this site, where the BBB took the complaint, and then, without any notification, said that the complaint had been settled and everything was fine. If the BBB wants any credibility, they need to change their business practices, which are no better than those of their client businesses. In other words, the BBB needs a BBB where it can list itself for consumer complaints. This organization ought to be shut down.

Okay, this definitely isn't for everyone, but for those with the taste, this is a great site. I've given very bad reviews to other dating sites, which are pervasively dishonest, and irritating into the bargain. But My Ladyboy Date is a good site, and the proprietors are honest people who don't try to sell you things you don't want or don't need, and they don't try to find concealed ways to extract your money.

One example: most dating sites will default to renewing your membership, and some members of these sites have gone through great difficulty trying to cancel a membership. MLD defaults to non-renewal of membership. That is unusual in the industry, and admirable.

A second example: after your membership expires, they allow you to continue to communicate through the site with those members with whom you have already communicated.

The site design is not perfect, but it's pretty good and -- more importantly -- it never really gets in the way, which is the worst thing about bad site design. The only reason I didn't given them five stars is the cost of the service. If you think the cost of the service is reasonable, you should take this as a five star review.

OK, it's been some time since I paid for a membership at Zoosk, but it seems to share all of the contemptible and deceptive practices of most online matchmaking sites, and throws in a few of its own as well. It has been interesting reading through the Zoosk reviews to discover some of the bad customer service and deceptive practices that I did not myself experience, but, based on my experience, I have no reason to doubt.

PEOPLE, STAY AWAY FROM PAID DATING SITES! The Free ones are bad enough. At least at the free sites you don't lose money along with your frustrations and disappointments. The industry of paid dating sites needs to die (or, better, be destroyed), sooner rather than later.

  • Amazon

Amazon isn't just a place to shop online, it is a resource. I used it research products, and I rely on the reviews of books, which represent individual and independent opinion. Yes, there are a lot of reviews that are just stupid, but if you read the critically, there is a lot to be learned. When I look at a book the first thing that I do is to look at the one-star reviews. If all the bad reviews are ideologically motivated, that is a reason to take the better reviews seriously. If the bad reviews are well thought-out, detailed, and carefully reasoned, then all the predictable rave reviews are probably mere fluff.

  • ChnLove

10/2/15

My experience on Chnlove was exactly the same as the other one star reviews on this site -- correspond with a girl for a long time, then say you're going to get a visa and travel to China, and then suddenly there is a reason for you not to come. There's always a reason. I did get a couple of girls on this site to write me directly by personal email, but after one or two exchanges I heard no more. The chnlove site seems to be about suckering guys into paying them money to write to girls that don't exist.

Notice that Chnlove has replicated their business model across several sites, including Charmdate.com, iDateAsia.com, and LatAmDate.com. Their main competition seems to be AsianDate.com, which has also replicated their business model and runs AnastasiaDate.com, AmoLatina.com, and ArabianDate.com. I once got a girl talking on AsianDate.com and she admitted straight up that she got paid for chatting online. If you pay for these chatting services, it's damned expensive because a cut goes to the girl and a bigger cut goes to the site.

Given the proliferation of these sites, one can only conclude that it's very profitable and that there are many men who are willing to pay. If you can regard this as exclusively of entertainment value, you'll be OK, although you'll also be poor. If you allow yourself to believe that any of this is real, you might get hurt. So beware. Caveat emptor. You have been warned.

If it weren't for a steady stream of planted rave reviews, everyone would be warned away, so I would like to encourage everyone reading this to post their real experiences so there will be plenty of counterbalancing testimony.

Tip for consumers:
If you're going to use this or any online dating site like this for girls in another country, don't do it UNTIL you are ready to leave. Say up front you'll be in the country next month and you want to meet. This might weed out all but the legit. Might, but don't count on it. I've read plenty of reviews from guys who actually traveled to meet a girl in another country and it quickly went south.
