How wonderful that we can actually review Yelp itself!

Let me just say that I find most of the reviews on the site to be people who love to criticize and harm local businesses. Yelp was meant to help folks find good local businesses but now, I find it's mostly a dumping ground for customers who want to just dump versus trying to resolve their problem with the owner.

But yes, that's what a public forum is for right? So let's move onto the business side then.

As a business owner myself, I have been called many, many times to run paid advertisements there. And when I say no, I continuously get my 5 stars pulled and my 1 stars (thank goodness not many) posted, even when the reviewer has only had 1 review which usually is their reason for pulling suspicious fake reviews.

And then there's the law suites that we all know about on the same subject but unfortunately, Yelp won.

Yelp needs to fair and CONSISTENT in how they filter.

I have done business with LS both on the consumer side and the merchant side. First... on the consumer side. The purchases I made always was not as "glamorous" as they publicize it to be. Because they use stock photos services, you never really know what the establishment looks like. They should put a photo of the establishment instead. Hey... I know what they are doing, I am a marketer. But online stuff you need to see for real. Otherwise it's deceiving.

Ok, now on the merchant side. They were very aggressive in getting my business. And once it was done, never heard back from them.

I now don't really do business with them at all.

  • Groupon

With all the "deal seeker" services out there, Groupon is probably a better choice. It's easy to make a purchase and with their phone app, it's easy to redeem. However, I just noticed they changed their policy which I am not so keen on.

You used to be able to purchase and GROUPON would always honor the value you purchased it for after it expires. This makes it simple for the customer because if you forgot to use it, the $$ just goes back into your Groupon account.

This way, you can buy the Groupons you liked, and didn't have to always worry about what was expiring... because you never would waste your money.

I don't know when this changed but I just got a notification from an expired Groupon that the value is now being honored by the MERCHANT. This poses a little problem for me given that I also used to buy Groupons while I am on vacation to search for restaurant deals. In this instance, I purchased a meal at a restaurant and didn't end up going as our plans got too full. And now, I just wasted the money because I don't live where the merchant now holds the value of my voucher.

I don't like this change. Groupon - if you read this... go back to your old policy. Because now your customers will buy less from you!

Great site to keep you in connection with your business contacts. It's a great way to search for new career opportunities as well. They offer now premium services for job seekers. Seems useful but the "inmail" plan could be better, i. E., if they didn't limit the amount of "inmails" you could send. 10 per month is not a lot even at the highest level given the when you are looking for a job, you need to do much more than that per month.

Love their selection and speedy deliveries. Products are of quality. I purchase 90% of my kids' shoes there and for myself as well. I love their free return policy, which is important for shoes given that fit for shoes is not always consistent in each pair of shoes you get.

It's an Amazon company... no wonder it's a great shopping site!

Cannot say enough about Amazon. Their customer service is A++++. Every time I have an issue, they resolve it. They keep customers happy and happy customers keep coming back.

I do A LOT of purchases online and I always go to Amazon first. I am a prime member and it's worth the money.

THANK YOU AMAZON for being so consistent in your customer service. I love you guys!

  • eBay

Many years ago when eBay was the *hot* place to buy stuff, I ordered a Coach Handbag. The merchant posted it as "authentic" with proof of authenticity. When it came in the mail, it was fake... no proof of authenticity, cheap. I contacted the merchant, they asked me to return it for a full refund. I mailed it back with proof of receipt. They received it, never issued me a refund. Then I went to eBay - followed their Buyer's Protection process which required me to file a police report in the city where the merchant was from. Did that. Called eBay on a daily basis and never heard back from them. That was the last time I did business with eBay. Thank goodness for Amazon.com, where I make many of my online purchases.

The rep called me last week. She was rude, pushy and condescending. I have had better conversations with my backup plumber.

When I asked her for her name, she hung up on me.

That should tell you how they run their business.
