I've put hundreds of dollars into EA games (thankfully mostly physical copies), and my account is gone forever. Several years ago I lost access to the email tied to the account (the email provider deleted it, and I didn't catch it until months later), contacted them about it, and was told I needed proof of ownership of at least one of the games digitally connected to the account, which requires: photos of the CD, the code(s) for the game, proof of the cost of the game, and a receipt... Seeing as the game franchise I had both physical and digital of was nearly 10 years old at this point in time... I had everything except the receipt, because why would I? So they wouldn't help me.
Tried again one more time, and now the Origin account has been *deleted* and the only way to recover it is by sending a recovery email to that email that I have no access to. I have tried contacting the email support, but they have a 30 day policy on their deletions.

The big takeaway is that your Origin account can just casually be deleted at any point. That shouldn't be a thing with monetary purchases involved. There is literally no reason to purchase anything through them, the entire point of having an account is to have everything protected and accessible for the future.
