I own two stores in the Nashville area for the past 15 yrs. I use to purchase from Liquidation.com when I first started in the business. It is a big waste of time and money to buy from this auction site. I just wanted to share some of my experience so anyone starting out in the Resale industry won't make the same mistakes I did.
First, there are no unbelievable cheap deals when it comes to buying liquidation. If it sounds to good to be true, IT IS! Liquidators know what the product is worth and they are not going to sell it for less than what the liquidation market will buy it for.
This does not mean you can't make great money off of there product. My normal return is 200-300% markup. There are very few products in this world that you can make that big of a profit margin. But don't think a Liquidation company is going to sell you a $100.00 pair of Ralph Lauren jeans for 10 bucks. It's just not going to happen.
Second: you have to build long term relationships with GOOD liquidation companies and find out what their best deals are. That is the problem with Liquidation.com, these guys are there to just make a quick buck selling junk they can't sell anywhere else.
Example: I buy all of my clothing from LiquidationGeneral.com These guys have the best deals and highest quality on clothing. Nobody can beat there prices and I sell it for a great profit. I don't buy their jewelry though. I don't think it is very good quality and the profit margins are small.
Example 2: I like buying cosmetics from Via Trading but I hate there clothing. Their clothing is cheap and I find a lot of defects in the loads. Their cosmetics I have found to be of good quality and make a decent profit margin.
These are just a couple of examples that I have found over the past 15yrs. I deal with multiple companies to make great profit margins.
Just wanted to add one last comment. If you deal with a liquidation company for a long time and are a good customer of theirs they will notify you first when something special comes in or if they are discounting an item. This gives you first choice at the best items. You will have to build up a good relationship with them though. Don't call them up and say your going to buy a lot of product in the future and expect them to give you the same deal as a long term customer.
