Once you have an item that needs returning you find out that you get store credit only but worse: if the price of the item you purchase is not as high as the price of the returned merchandise, you loose the difference. They consider it redeemed. In my book that's called robbery.

Also, you are able to redeem the credits incrementally; this way, you can make multiple purchases with the return credit, until the amount has been reached.
