If you're a half-way attractive woman looking for a hookup, this is a fine site to use.
If a man, things get more problematic. I did a little user research (AFTER having dropped a bit of money, unfortunately) and here are some of the results. Yes, I set up a very basic faux female user profile to garner results from a woman's perspective. The results are not, of course, scientific, but here they are. To those guys considering this site, they might be discouraging.
Active male participants meeting certain parameters in the age range searched (covering 18 years, early forties to sixty) searched: 208. I excluded certain ethnic groups, and the overweight (no disrespect intended, people, but women are gonna do that too).
Active female participants in the same range, same search parameters: 54
This doesn't control for how many of these female participants might be AM operatives, of course. How many are shills for AM? Who knows? I suspect that some may well be, based on most of the female activity I saw. I got a few very short email messages from women expressing interest ("are you online?"; "come chat:-)"; "how's your search coming along?") to which I responded (expending credits, of course), with email messages that were subsequently ignored. Quite a few chat requests from out-of-state women (which would have required an outlay of 30 credits) to which I did not respond. With a very few exceptions, what responses I received seemed to fit the profile of what one might expect from 'fake women' seeking to entice one into expending expensive credits.
Not a single one of the man-to-woman communications received by my faux profile struck me as anything other than sincere. I've since deleted that profile, FWIW. Sorry for the fraud, guys, but I hope you'll agree that the information I'm providing here is worth it.
Interest received as a woman (in four days): 55 'recent views'; 14 emails from 13 unique male users; 22 winks.
Interest received as a man: 12 'recent views' from unique users; 8 emails from six unique female users (all but two were collect messages, requiring 5 credits for response; only two were ever acknowledged, none positively); one wink, which was given in response to one of mine.
For the record, I'm a guy in my mid fifties, well over six feet, quite fit (c. 200 lbs), good-looking (or so I've been told). Perhaps I'm a bit over the cutoff age for attached women in their middle forties to sixty, which is the status and age range to which I adjusted my search.
Make of these numbers whatever you will; they're an accurate account of my short experience with AM. In summation, I'd have to agree with the guy on this review site who said that you might well have better luck trolling for adventuresome and maritaly-dissatisfied ladies at the local supermarket than on Ashley Madison.
Once my credits are used up, I don't intend to renew. And yeah, based on what I've seen here, and as rapacious as AM management is reputed to be, I'm going to 'lose' the credit card with which I signed up.
