The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with customers praising the quality of food and unique dining experiences at various restaurants. However, significant concerns arise regarding the reliability of the reservation system, with many users reporting issues with OpenTable's functionality, including failed reservations and poor customer support. Customers express frustration over the difficulty in redeeming rewards points and the lack of direct communication options, leading to a perception of inadequate service. Overall, while the dining experiences can be exceptional, the underlying reservation platform and support mechanisms require substantial improvement to enhance customer satisfaction.

I had a large-ish meeting/gathering planned, and we decided to try Dave and Buster's Arcade in Concord, CA. I was careful to make a reservation through the Dave and Buster's website, which took me to Open Table reservations. It was all a complete waste of time, since the hostess at Dave and Buster's had no idea who we were, and what I was talking about. "We don't have a hostess working tonight, so it is just open seating." And it was pretty full. You are making a phantom reservation that is a complete waste of time and has no bearing in this reality. Apparently, they don't know each other or, at least, do not know what the other is doing. Open Table needs to know that the business is NOT HONORING THE RESERVATION AT ALL! Why aren't they aware of this? Dave and Buster's are paying a fee to Open Table, but Open Table hasn't even bothered to follow up whether the business is using or honoring their service! You would think that would be important since that is their total purpose. What a total waste of time and effort. The reservation that you are making is a hoax, it is not real, not at all. Perhaps on another night it actual might matter, but the time I used it, it absolutely didn't. Call the business and get some information, because Open Table does not care enough to know that the person is just wasting their time and that their total product DOES NOT WORK..
I reserved a table at a nice restaurant for Mother's Day. I got confirmation of the time and that all was well. Then got a call the day before Mothers Day from the resultant stating Open Table was taking reservations even though they have been booked out for week. Now it was too late to get anything anywhere else.
Abysmal service, point system is a gimmick to attract users you won't get the points. Any complaint will be met with 101 reasons why they can't honor their promises Don't waste your time.
I have been an Open Table customer for five years. Every year I approach my $100 reward and every year my points expire. They collect their money and never pay out.
We went to the Wellington recently. They were promoting a fish special. When three in our party ordered it we were told there were only two left. One of us then changed their order only to be informed there was only one left. We ordered a side that had the option of adding bacon, we did so but the side arrived without bacon. We also ordered a dish with pita bread for one of our party that cannot consume dairy. The dish arrived without the bread. When we asked we were told that the pita had dairy, that would be highly unusual. The poor service from the kitchen was accompanied by a 4% kitchen appreciation fee on our bill. A most unwelcome new fee especially given the service.
OpenTable reviews are utterly unreliable, and even the language in the reviews gives it out. We did not want to trust our gut feel on this and went to a restaurant rated 4.6/5 on OpenTable (vs 3/5 Yelp and Google) - our reality check rating is 2.5/5
If you try to make a reservation via OpenTable, most of the time tables are unavailable. When I then call the restaurant, I have never failed to get a reservation for the date and time that I am looking for. If there is a restaurant that does not accept a reservation via telephone, I simply skip it and go to another place that values their customers sufficiently to accept telephone calls. There are literally tens of top restaurants in my city, so not a problem to find one with good food AND good service (I definitely consider them accepting telephone reservations as part of good service)
Ditas of Marin, the former Ondine restaurant has been transformed into an extraordinary experience. Perched above The Trident on Bridgeway. The menu is a combination of fusion. The Chef is warm and very knowledgeable about cuisine. Nikita, CEO, has the grace and right touch. We LOVE Ditas of Marin, a frequenbt visitor, bar/lounge menu available and a million dollar view. First class experience. Susan Roe
I left a one-star review for a restaurant and it was never posted to their website.
In addition, when trying to contact support - there is NO human option. The chat bot forces you through a bunch of irrelevant questions with NO way to directly reach a human.
Usually my experience with Open Table is satisfactory, however, our experience last night was disappointing. To celebrate my wife's birthday I made a reservation at Jekyll Brewery, a recently-opened brew pub in Jax Beach, Florida. My wife, who loves to try out new beers was looking forward to the evening. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the hostess advised us that they were not accepting reservations, despite the fact that I had a confirmation from Open Table that we had a table for 2 at 6:30.She said the wait time was an hour and sitting at the bar was not an option. When I asked why the disconnect, she told me that they were required to make the Open Table app go 'live' in order to get their electronic menu ordering system up and running and they had told Open Table they would not be ready to accept reservations on the system for thirty days. Nonetheless, reservations were made, and people were disappointed. Why did this happen?
You booked Jekyll Brewing - Jacksonville for 2 on 06/03/23 Sat 6:30 PM. Reply 1 to confirm, 9 to cancel, or STOP to end msg. See more: https://n.opn.tl/0W5VVVFn Sent from my iPhone
I have tried to use OpenTable rewards cards twice now and was humiliated both times when the payment was declined. OpenTable always blames the restaurant staff, but they will not give YOU the number for the restaurant to call if they have problems. This is FRAUD!
I tried to use my reward but it got rejected at the restaurant. I had already left the restaurant so they told me how the restaurant should have processed instead of telling training the restaurant. They said they would restore my reward but they never did. They finally sent me an email saying my issue was closed. RIPOFF!
The restaurant website takes me to Open Table and I make a reservation on my computer. It shows up on my calendar, but not on my phone app. I modify a reservation and I get a text with the updated info, but the calendar stays the same. I log in on my computer and no reservations show up. There is some history on the app and web account, but I don't think it is all of them. Every attempt to reach a human to see if I have a second account by accident is met with a cycle of auto responses that never end in a human or an answer. I am done with Open Table. If a restaurant will not take my direct reservation I do not want to give them my business
Don' t rely on Open Table! More times than not I failed to get a reservation thru Open tabe and called the restaurant just to get the date and time slot I wanted. Those places that do not answer a phone to take reservations, well...if that is how little they value my patronage, I don't want to support their business. Aba here in Austin a prime example.
Booked as a reservation for 4. It books it as a reservation for 2. Tried to edit it and can't book that time anymore. Horrid site.
We had a good run, many years many reservations, and now, about 5 for 5 when your app, just does not work. I am not getting an error message, just an "unfortunately not working at this time" Message. And I have not abused this tool. I call to cancel whenever forced... very frustrating as you have locked in with MANY restaurants in Chicago.
Received reward card (5000 points) for $25 which came with NO instructions, declined 1st time, called and was told to wait 30-days which I did, declined again. Will book direct from now on. Not worth the hassle.
So i used this POS app for the first time on December 22,2022. I was looking for restaurants open on Christmas day. I saw Benihana at 875 N. Michigan Ave., in Chicago. I booked the place for a 1pm reservation for 7 people. Since I typically don't trust anything I called the restaurant to verify they were open. Even the dip$#*! that answered the phone said they were open on Christmas day. I asked him repeatedly and I asked about parking. Them not having a valet was a bummer but they have a parking garage in the Hancock building where the restaurant is located. So we're all excited about the place and can't wait to go. We drive there on Christmas day, park in the $42 dollar parking garage. We head down the elevator to the place and when we get to the floor they're located on the doors are closed. There was some maintenance guy working and he came to the door and said the place was closed on that day. So now I was already out $20 for parking for 10 minutes and had nowhere for the 7 of us to eat. THANKS TO OPEN TABLE AND THE POS RESTAURANT WE HAD TO SCAMBLE TO FIND A PLACE TO EAT ON CHRISTMAS. $#*! YOU BOTH! I WILL NEVER USE THIS POS APP AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER GO TO THAT POS RESTAURANT. Then Open Table has the nerve to send me an email asking why I didn't go there. Waste of time and money. Luckily Fogo De Chao was open and we had a wonderful meal brought to our table over and over and over and over again. They know how to treat customers.
Made reservations in October for Thanksgiving dinner. Received a call from Smashing Grapes on Thanksgiving Day that we would be seated at 3:15 instead of 3:00. Did not get everything that was on the menu either. They ran out of dishes frequently. There wasn't enough waitstaff. They overbooked. At $42 a head for a party of six, it was unacceptable. Never gonna do that again!
I had the privilege to attend a wild game and Wild Turkey bourbon pairing dinner Thursday night at Cioppinos in the strip district! The food was absolutely amazing above all my expectations. The menu included rabbit, duck and elk made two ways followed by the perfect desert of pastry with ice cream that they make in house! Delicious! The service was just as wonderful! I can't wait to see what Cioppinos does for the next dinner pairing!
Answer: I don't know, but I do know that Open Table gets $1 from the restaurant for each person on the reservation. So they make $8 for a party of 8, but give a (puny) $1 to the person booking it. Good point to bring up with them.
