Webpost – www.sitejabber.com initial post - 02.09.09

Below is the full linier detail of my experience with www.iwantthatgift.co.uk they have progressively gone from pleading innocence, to threatening me with legal action, to extremely offensive messages, to threats of a physical nature including burning down my house! All is detailed below in chronological order.
----------------------------
On 09.08.09 I ‘purchased’ a Sony television for my parents. Their site states they won’t take the money until the item is dispatched, this is a lie. The money (£419.77) was taken from my pay pal account on the same day. so I called them and I was advised that delivery would take up to 21 days.

23 days later I had heard nothing from the company and still no television.

Today I spoke to the company, some unpleasant man got angry at me on the phone claiming PayPal had ripped him off and my problem was with them and nothing to do with his company.

I am staggered that this company is still in a position to take money from people. The TV was to be an anniversary gift for my parents. Now their anniversary has passed and I’ve no Idea when I might get my money back.

I can see I’m not the only one who seems to have been conned by this sham website.

www.iwantthatgift.co.uk is based on my experience just a scam, I would advise that you stay away.
-------------------------------------
Just so you get the full picture here’s a copy of the ‘online assistance chat’ I had

Please wait while we connect you to an available operator...
markOn 09.08.09 – I purchased a Sony television (BRAVIA KDL-32V4500) the money (£419.77) was taken from my pay pal account on the same day. Chris - you will have to open a dispute in pay pal as we have not been paid from them since the 21st july
Chris - and we will not be dispatching any orders from them we are sorry for this but they will not pay us
Mark - the order was with you, why send me to pay pal if they aren't paying you
Chris - because they have been fobbing us off since then
Mark – that’s not an answer
Chris - it is an answer because we don’t get paid
Mark - why do you direct people to pay pal to take a payment
Chris - we don’t we were told we were getting paid and not
Chris - pay pal are the ones to blame not us we are trying to conduct business but are being conned by them, would you send any items out to a customer if you was not going to be paid for it
Mark - why did you not contact me?
Chris - we have taken them off the site, because this happened over the holiday when we could not do anything about it until today
mark - if what you say is true, I could have opened a dispute 3 weeks ago
Chris - you could have done yes but we were still being told by them we were going to get paid
Mark - you are an online company, you've been on holiday for 3 weeks??
Chris - no bank holiday weekend
Chris - look im not going to get into an argument if you want that i sugest you call paypal
Chris - i have already lost enough time and money dealing with them and quite frankly i dont want anymore to do with them
Mark - your site sates you don't take payment until the item is dispatched
Chris - look paypal have your money not me if you want to pay by another method fine . But your dispute is with them not me i have not got your money paypal do

‘chris’ stopped responding to me after that.
-------------------------------------
Later after my 3rd attempt to call them and leaving an angry message (16.33 - 01.09.09) I was called back from the same man (He said his name was actually called John <not Chris>) on the phone he was arrogant and off hand with me as though he was the victim. I am still seething! I can only hope PayPal refund me and my parents might get their TV for Christmas.
---------------------------------------
- Update

<The above post was made at around 5am, very early as I work late shifts, which was later mentioned to ‘John’ in our next conversation>

Almost unbelievably just a few hours after this post I received this email from www.iwantthatgift.co.uk (love the irony of misspelling professional)
----------------------------------------
Email Received - 08.41am - 02.09.09
“Hi
I did explain to you yesterday that the problems we have been having with paypal i was not rude nor was i angry .now you have done a review .Which might i add you have pasted and copied from my system .Which i donot give permission for also i have a recording of yourself saying you are going to hunt us down like mice this is not profesional .I am giving you one chance to remove this completely if you do not i will put this in the hands of my legal team whom are dealing with paypal .
please note we will prosecute you to the fullest extend of the law as we are not criminals but trying to make an honest living.
What you have written is nothing more than slander .I would strongly advise you remove it within the hour.”
-----------------------------------------
Around the same time of sending this (at 08.23 - 02.09.09) ‘John’ called my land line (from xxxx) and spoke to my wife and demanded I remove my review <from this site> and threatened to bring in his ‘legal team’ if I did not. Later (at 09.08 – 02.09.09) he called again this time speaking to me, still trying to play the victim. When I simply pointed out that his website states very clearly that I would not be charged until the item was dispatched he hung up on me. Following this he sent a second email.
----------------------------------------
Email received – 14.26 – 02.09.09
“Hi
we have now passed all your details
and copys of all emails and recorded
messages you have left onto our legal department.
Please note i did give you fair warning and a chance to rectifie this before i have done this .
The next corespondents will be from them regarding legal action against you for slander and definition of character .As you have no proof whatsoever to back up your acusations .were as we have all the relevant paperwork to take this all the way.
Please note any legal costs in the outcome of this matter will be paid by you .
Regards”
----------------------------------------
No name, despite ending his message with ‘regards’. Well now I’m getting a little angry at the audacity of the man so I sent an email back to him;
---------------------------------------
Email sent 18:46 - 02/09/2009

Hello

It's amazing to me that you are still trying to paint yourself as a victim in all of this.

If all is as you claim, why have you not just notified PayPal that our transaction has been cancelled?
In fact why didn't you do that in the first place when you decided you weren't going to send me the TV I paid for?

If, as you claim they are holding my money then they will simply refund me.
They are already aware of the escalation and I have also supplied them with details of all communications between us.

I would be very, very happy to communicate with your 'legal team' if you give me their contact details.

I shall in the next 24 hours be sending all of our communications and details of your dubious business operation to The Department of Trade and Industry, 'Which' magazine, Watchdog, every online consumer group that I can find and also all major internet search engines with the suggestion that they remove you from their listings (As to my post on sitejabber.com I have updated it and shall continue to do so. Also I have posted it to facebook).

It is also notable that not only can your site no longer take PayPal payments but you cannot accept any major credit cards either. I wonder why?

On a lighter note, your previous communication states you are going to take legal action against me for 'definition' of character! I don't know if this is an amusing Freudian slip or an epic example of stupidity achieving perfect irony.

If you would supply PayPal with a statement that you have not and do not plan to send me the television I'm sure this will be resolved very quickly and spare me from further 'defining' your character!

Regards

Mark Consterdine.
--------------------------------------
Update 07.30 – 03.09.09

36 hours later PayPal have responded to my escalation stating the claim had been decided in my favour and I would be receiving a full refund.

---------------

Update 00.05 – 04.09.09
Wow, just when you think it’s over!
At this point it all got a bit more sinister, I am about to speak to the police.
This conflict has suddenly gone from annoying to very offensive and threatening. Late this afternoon www.iwantthisgift.co.uk began to reveal their true colours. As I have time tags on all of their communications (phone calls, Texts and a message sent to me via this site) here is the story of my late afternoon & evening in linier order (all offensive words I have censored for you);
---------------------------------
16.23 - 03.09.09 – message to me via this website (www.sitejabber.com ) in response to this post.
- From ‘gasssepi m.’ (whom I absolutely believe is the same man now threatening me)
HI MARK HOW YOUR WIFE I HEARD SHES A REAL GOER
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A COMPLETE W**KER OH AND BY THE WAY I F***ED YOUR WIFE. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT
WRITE A REVIEW.
--------------------------------
Then the threats by text began (and are still coming)
--------------------------------
Text from xxxx (yes the number that John/Chris called me from the day before.)
“I am sittin outside ur house your neighbour has a nice red car”
Text from xxxx - 16.43 – 03.09.09
“You do know that your house is on a crappy council estate. Burns well when it goes up”

Text from xxxx - 16.45 – 03.09.09
“crappy easy to burn council house”

16.50 – 03.09.09 - Phone call to my mobile (number Blocked) lasting approx 1 minute.
A man called ‘Terry’ (whom I believe is the same man previously calling himself Chris, and then John) called me telling me again that “... their ‘legal team’ were about to spring into action, unless I removed my review from this site (www.sitejabber.com ).” I explained that PayPal had quickly decided in my favour and I would be getting my money back within seven days. His response to this was “good, so you’ll be taking the down the site review now?” I said no, as my post was an accurate representation of my experience with their website, l which is the very point of www.sitejabber.com . He started to say how I would be sued. I said he should put it in writing, and that I didn’t want him to call me anymore.
16.56 – 03.09.09 - Phone call to my mobile (number Blocked) lasting approx 1 minute.
Once again ‘Terry’ called, being more forceful on this occasion. He said that their company was owned by a firm of solicitors and if I didn’t want to be prosecuted I should do as he said. I asked ‘Terry what his second name was, he refused to answer. I said he should do “whatever he liked just put it in writing.”

16.56 – 03.09.09 - Phone call to my mobile (number Blocked) lasting less than 1 minute.
It was ‘Terry’ again he said “in about ten minutes you will get a call from our director, I suggest you speak to him or he’s coming to visit you tomorrow morning and you don’t want that.” I said that’s a threat, I shall not be taking anymore of your calls.” and hung up.
A further three calls came to my mobile at - 17.19, 17.24 and 17.29 – all of which I ignored. One message was left which was mostly gibberish from a man claiming to be the director of the company, stating more stuff about legal action. Then a short barrage of text messages, none of which I replied to;
Text from xxxx - 17.04 – 03.09.09 Text
“you my friend are going to be sorry”
Text from xxxx - 18.31 – 03.09.09
“who’s been sleeping with your wife while you’re on nights ha ha. Come on Mug what r u gong to do”
Text from xxxx - 18.37 – 03.09.09
“Enough is enough we will see you in the morning”

And that’s the story so far (3am 04.09.09). To many people, all of this would be immensely intimidating, even here on www.sitejabber.com there is at least one example of a lady who removed her review because they kept on ringing her threatening legal action. Because I made clear I welcomed their legal action they have resorted to pathetic childish threats and insults. I will be bringing this matter to the attention of everyone who cares.
Do I think they will come and see me in the morning? I think it’s about as likely as getting a product delivered from them.
Update – 14.25 - 04.09.09
In between 07.49 this morning and this point of writing the now famous number xxxx called my mobile 18 times, I didn’t answer any of them and no messages were left. I have spoken to the police and they have the details and an officer is visiting me this afternoon. My wife has been upset greatly by all of this, which has strengthened my resolve to have justice served on these parasites.
15.25 - 04.09.09
Two police officers visited me I have an incident number and all the information here has been passed on for further investigation.
08.09.09
Though the threats continue and have intensified, from this point I shall only be communicating with the police about any future harassment by these pathetic criminals.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM Iwantthatgift! I had to chase my order and then had to cancel it after knowing it would take forever to arrive. I then received a rude email from them saying I wasted their time and money! The guy had the nerve to tell me shame on me I didn't read their terms. Well, I did and there was NOTHING on the terms that indicates the site is a dropship site and nothing is in stock (hence the long wait for every order!!) The guy insulted me even further in another email saying I lack buying knowledge! To make it worse they never refunded my money when they said they would and I had to do a charge back! STAY CLEAR!! This site is a joke and the people involved are much worse, plain rude and unethical!

Stock levels change in seconds? Ludicrous! They do NOT carry anything instock!

Anybody wishes to read the rude and appalling emails I received from this site please feel free to contact me.

I ordered something costing £150 from them, the had awful communication, took over a month with no delivery at all, no returning of phone calls, when I got them I was promised it would be despatched the next day, 2 weeks later it had not arrived. Luckily I paid via Paypal so filed a dispute and got a refund. Office sounds small (was getting calls from mobile numbers) and customer service hopeless, despite the impression that it's terribly professional. Avoid.

It beggers belief that this website is still live and taking money. Notice how paypal will no longer deal with them . I like the way they will only accept NOCHEX or a bank transfer (Why not just ask for used fifties in a brown envelope).
As for anyone outthere who is considering purchasing from IWANTTHATGIFT , your money would be better placed with an Icelandic Bank or a Nigerian investment scheme . If your looking for a similar shopping experience then take a look at some of the TVs on the Argos website ,take £400 out of your wallet and then set it on fire . When you have done that phone up your local minicab firm asking where your TV is . They will give you a similar amount of abuse as IWANTTHATGIFT do when you are chasing up a two month old order .If you still are thinking about purchasing from IWANTTHATGIFT then please visit IWANTMYHEADLOOKINGAT first .
As for thier pathetic threats of legal action .Get real Paul ( John ) .Take this to your legal team .
You are a LIAR
You are a CHEAT
You are a THIEF
You are a CONMAN
You are 100% PURE SCUM

See you on crimewatch........

Thank god I used PayPal when attempting to buy a product from this 'company'. After raising a dispute with PayPal I got my money back no problem, if it was left to 'iwantthatgift.co.uk' I'd have never seen my money again. If you ask me by them not accepting money via PayPal it means they get to keep your money - don't do it!!!

My order was only partially fulfilled. After a couple of months, I contacted Google Checkout; they informed they were no longer processing orders from I Want That Gift. My VISA card company provided me with a refund for the missing items. I was lucky.

The site now claims it is "under new management" via a venture capital coimpany called 'FLIGHT TICKETS DIRECT LIMITED'

However this company is registered as NON Trading, the site now only uses Bank Transfer, and the registered address is a beauty salon in Golders Green.

If this site had a "HSBC Merchant Payment" wjhy cant it take VISA and MASTERCARD payments directly

What a bunch of con artists, Im sure Bruce Kennedy, the claimed new director is just as bad as the previous shady traders !

These people must think that we have rocks in our head !

Dodgy, still dodgy

I would agree with all the negative comments on this site- especially the guy who copied in the emails relating ot rude men and nasty threats. Don't be put off by the lame threats of legal action as you actually are only giving factual information. If you have paid with pay pal get your money back NOW before the time limit expires!
Theft is dishonestly appropriating property with the intention of permanantly depriving you of it-Theft act 1968 Section 1- this property can be money
Personally it actually verges on fraud by false representation (section 2 of the fraud act 2006) ,to which this company appears to conduting themselves under If they state they will not take money out of your account before shipment of products?
Message to Iwantathatgift- you need to alter your terms and conditions if you are misleading customers. If you should ever ring me again i will deem this as a course of conduct of harassment
To the consumers
I feel sorry for you guys, i too have been through this process although got money back in the end - it looks like they're not doing that for you. Keep pursuing this and maybe you could all get together to seek compensation via the small claims courts?

P.s they do not record your conversations as under legal terms and conditions they have to inform you that they will be recording you which i doubt they do- they certainly will not be keeping tapes of calls - how ridiculous!!

GOOD LUCK

IF you believe the possitive comments here then you are just plain gullible. Save yourself a lot of money and time by not buying anything from them, actually, by not even thinking about buying from them at all. You won't receive anything and they won't refund you either. This website is a frude, there is no customer services or sales or whatever they try to make it appears to be, it is a total scam. DO NOT BUY - YOU ARE WARNED!

I just found out that my mum got ripped off by these people a couple of months ago. Having now found this website and all the reviews about www.iwantthatgift.co.uk (I think it's important to always give the full title of the site in order that Google search always picks up these reviews). The few reviews on here actually defending the site and trying to pass some blame on to PayPal are a joke so blatantly written by the people who run the website themselves if they weren't such foul parasites I would almost feel embarrassed for them.

Have PayPal ever threatened to burn down someone's house? As for threatening to sue people for 'definition' of character, well that's just the funniest thing I've heard all year. If you bother to take a look at their website there are plenty of other idiotic statements and blatant lies. The fact that now they can only take payment by direct bank transfer speaks volumes.

If you like many other people here have been robbed by these lowlifes here's a few contacts you might like to take advantage of, I already have. Hopefully their nasty little operation will be closed down very soon.

Complain directly to the people who host their website at this address abuse@34sp.com

Put in a complaint to the Department of trade and industry on their website www.ripofftipoff.net

The holding company for their shady operation is 'Topstock Hinckley Ltd'

While their website claims they are based in Runcorn, the registered address of the website is actually in Milton Keynes.

My mum is elderly and this whole experience has put her off as a purchasing anything online again. I remain angry about the whole thing, more so having read some of the stories on this page. And to those thieving idiots from www.iwantthatgift.co.uk , who apparently read this site a regularly - it's 'defamation' of character you morons. Definition of character is exactly what's going on!

They are definitely a bunch of scammers and very dodgy. I paid for a TV through my paypal account thinking if any thing goes wrong I can file a dispute/refund claim. Unfortunately I was wrong. Paypal ruled in my favourbut when they tried to retrieve the refund money back from these scammers their payment didnt materialise. I am fighting to get my money back. Their customer services says they have posted my refund but it is more that 2 weeks just like their delivery promises. I think the guys who have given positive feedback for this company are people they have paid to do so. By doing so their potential customers will think there are some unlucky customers but there people who have no problems as well. I believe anybody who pays them money is being taken for a good ride. I wish we can get rid of such scammers as they are a menace to all online shopper.

On the 20th July 09 I ordered a Sony BRAVIA LCD television, model No. KDL40W4000 from www.iwantthatgift.co.uk. They were advertising that particular model at £639-99 + £9-99 postage & packing.
I paid the full price of £649-98 via PayPal, who passed the money on to ‘I Want that Gift’, (Topkstock Hinckley Ltd.
After receiving no communication from this company, and no television being delivered, I started phoning and
e-mailing them. I made many futile attempts to speak to someone in charge, but was always told that someone would phone me back. No one ever did. On the 26th August, I did receive a Sony BRAVIA television, but the model was the KDL-40S5600, not the KDL40W4000 which I wanted, had ordered and paid for. (The reason I specifically wanted the KDL-40W4000 was because it had been awarded the ‘Best 40” LCD television, 2008/9 by ‘Which Plasma & LCD TV’ magazine (issue 58). For this very reason I wasn’t interested in any other model). I contacted them, explained their error. I was told to send it back and they would dispatch the correct one to me. On the 28th August, at my own expense, I returned the package (unopened), and they received it on the 1st September.
Since that date I have tried to get my money back via my credit card company, but they refuse to pay because the transaction was between four parties- me, the credit card company, PayPal, and Topstock Hinckley Ltd. This is their ‘get out’. I tried to get my money back via the PayPal Resolution Centre, but although they- ‘decided in my favour’, they explained how they were unable to recover any funds from the seller's account. I have made many attempts to get my money back directly from Topstock Hinckley Ltd, but to no avail. They have ignored my e-mails, phone calls and even my letters sent by recorded delivery. They have the cheek to be still advertising the KDL40W4000 which I ordered and paid for ten weeks ago. This model has not been off their web site since the day I ordered mine.
