Why does HubSpot not fix some of the major SEO short-falls with the platform, like forcing websites to use an external blog on a sub-domain?

I would say that you get out of it what you put in. What hubspot is not: A tool that does internet marketing for you on auto pilot. What hubspot is: A set of tools that allow you to manage all of your internet marketing efforts in one place. Like any toolset in the field, if you aren't prepared to work towards marketing your site - hubspot won't do it for you :)
