on 9/28/15I put an ad on backstage and 240 actors requested auditions. As I went through the list I sent three actors my info my name email and phone number. And then I was blocked. I contacted backstage and they told me I wasn't allowed to give the actors my contact info. The actors were only allowed contact through there site. That the actors had to pay each month and that my use of direct contact took money from backstage's pockets. I told them I had 30 parts to assign for a pg13 radio play. They said they didn't want my kind on their website.
Definitely find an agency, not are you not supposed to pay for auditions, they will charge your card without asking which is morally wrong. Find yourself a good agency!
Every single acting class I took told me to never pay to get auditions.
The number one sign of a scam is if they ask you to pay.
If an Acting Agency gives you a fee don't pay (They get paid when they land you a gig)
Instead of using Backstage, I would suggest finding an acting agency instead. It'll be harder but it'll be worth it when you find the right one who is honest and doesn't charge you.
