My father was in end stage Alzheimer's. Losing ability to speak and walk. I transferred him from his ALF to the memory care unit. I spectacled if they did hospice and was told yes. I hired private duty nurses to be with him from 11am - 7pm for more personal assistance.
Moved him in and the move was fine. The greeting was made special with the literal "red carpet" entrance. However….
1- Starting the first week the staff gave the private nurse a hard time. She asked when they did my father's laundry and bathing and was told they didn't know so I had to ask Cynthia the director of nurses.
2- I was told that staff would check in every two hours that didn't happen I guess that I didn't qualify for that service that was paid for because I had a private duty nurses she needed help she had to go hunting for someone who usually acted as they it was a favor and not their job to be there.
3- I was told on the Tuesday he moved in that he would have a UA done but it took till the following Tuesday for it to get done.
4- the laundry was done on Thursday so the private nurse asked on Friday where it was so she could put it away but she was told that they couldn't find it. One of his brand new pajamas had already gone missing just one week after arriving.
5- Dads condition continued to decline and he was hospitalized for falling on Saturday. I hoped he would be discharged so I asked about his clothes the following day (Sunday) His laundry was "found" still in the laundry room. The plastic hamper was completely torn on the back side of it and instead of just saying that there was an accident and it was broken staff covered it up by placing it backwards facing the wall to hide the destruction.
6- my father continued to decline and I brought him back after 4 days under Hospice Care. Advent Health Hospice dropped the ball and never sent any orders for comfort medications etc. Cynthia Director of nurses said she was up till 3 am trying to solve the problem. It never did get resolved so I changed to a different hospice
7- CHRISTY THE DIRECTOR OF MEMORY CARE REFUSED TO FOLLOW HOSPICE DOCTOR ORDERS. The doctor ordered Haldol to help with his anxiety as his lungs filled up with fluid but she refused to have the nurses do this.

TO EASE AND PROVIDE COMFORT FOR THE DYING IS THE SOLE PURPOSE OF HOSPICE. IF THEY WONT DO THIS THEN HOW REPULSIVELY DECEPTIVE IS IT TO SAY THAT THEY "DO" HOSPICE CARE?
8- Victoria was the ONLY nurse that showed him and me compassion. I praise her professionalism and character.
9- Jonetta was asked to help turn dad and clean him up. The level of complete and total disregard she showed was disgusting. The private nurse for the evening also mentioned it since Jonetta had acted the same way when help was requested. The staff behavior is of the attitude that they're doing YOU a favor and is disgruntled. I assure you that residents pay an ADDITIONAL 1000.00/month and they most definitely are NOT doing ANYTHING out of kindness.
10- Two days after I had brought dad back he passed. In spite of staff knowing what was happening across the hall from their dining room were laughing out loud and carrying on among themselves as if at a party not showing any courtesy to the family or my father. They were not with any other residents there doing activities. It was just the group of them goofing around.
11- Two days later my husband and I were there to clean out his room. NOT ONE PERSON THERE FAVE ANY CONDOLENCES EVER. This includes all the workers, Cynthia, or Christy. We took two days and nobody bothered to say anything. Only Roland who is the person who manages the contracts and Victoria.
12- This is the comment made by staff " YOURE NOT DONE YET?! HE WASNT HERE LONG ENOUGH TO COLLECT THAT MUCH! THEN SHE LAUGHED! That sums the staff in a nutshell. (They all need to be replaced)
13- The PT and speech therapists were very professional and called to communicate their findings and what the status was.
14- My father was there for approximately 3.5 weeks. He truly enjoyed all the different food venues that they have to offer and the private nurse took him to. Their pool area and patios are also very inviting and the private nurse did take him to all those places. Staff does not do that.
15- Finally- I expected more for the over 8000.00/ month the place costs with respect to the staff and their not following hospice doctors orders to help my father.
Place is luxurious and Markus was very helpful and attentive. The actual care left much to be desired.
