3 days ago I received a text from my daughter saying she bought a dress from the store in the Avalon mall and she was trying to return it and she was refused, she had the receipt but the cashier told her the card on the receipt didn't match the debit card she had. My daughter told her she has only two cards and neither matched the number on the receipt. They told her too bad, sorry we won't do it. My daughter showed them her banking app which clearly showed that she, personally had made the purchase, because she is logical and understands that fraud can be a factor in returns. They still say no your card doesn't match the receipt. I then call the store and the assistant manager answered the phone and I explain my daughters situation and all she keeps repeating is the number on the receipt doesn't match the card she has. So I offer her some reasons why a person might have a different card, lost or stolen perhaps? And also I might add, the return policy on the back of the receipt does not state that a return must be processed with the same card it was purchased. I then ask for the manager as this girl is clearly only repeating the same thing over because she has no other answer. The manager can also offer no clarity and says she doesn't know why she can't she just can't. I work in a retail setting, so I understand that for reconciling at the end of the day has some impact on if a cash refund is given when a card has been used and so on, however I am quite sure it doesn't matter which actual card is used. The manager also tells me she just can't because that's what she was told, and also that giving refunds is not something they do, they're just doing it because the dressing room is closed. To which I reply, is it possible you can check with your boss, to which the answer is no. I am not about to degrade young girls that are just trying to do their job, HOWEVER, by this time I could tell that this young lady was just digging in her heels well... just because. I was in no way rude or angry, as I have a 20 year old daughter that often gets in situations with adults where yelling is involved, so I am not about to be a hypocrite and do it to someone else's daughter. Now I suggest my daughter call the bank and confirm that her debit card was used for the transaction, which of course it was, because she has only 1 card. Which she did, and the gentlemen confirmed it was her card with the same numbers printed on her card, not the last four digits that are on the receipt. Do one again she goes back in the store. The cashier turned her back and went and got someone else (I assume one of the girls I spoke to). My daughter tried to explain that she called the back and confirmed her card. At this point I will interject that I am not going to comment on my daughters attitude at this point because I was not physically there, I can only say it is not in her character or personality type to be aggressive or rude. However, I digress, This time the girl (again I'm not sure which one) proceeded to slap her hands on the counter and tell my daughter "you can make a the fuss you want in this store, I'm NOT giving you your money back." So my question for you ARDENE, is this the type of service you are ok with offering your customers? Are your employees encouraged to disrespect and be beligerante to never mind customers, but to other human beings in general? Could your manager not have looked a little farther to see if it was a mix up with the till? I am shocked and appalled at how these girls spoke to me and my daughter. Maybe a little more training for your staff on how to deal logically and rationally with these situations. Maybe make someone older your manager. Or not, this could be the way your employees are supposed to act, so as not to return a 20 year old student her 34.99. Do better ardenes, both corporately and also your store in the Avalon mall, St. John's NL. People will soon get tired of spending their hard earned money in a place as deplorable as this store.
