I filled out the application for a dog and left the personal references blank because I didn't want to annoy my friends with any nonsense and was hoping a simple interview would suffice. After all, the worst person in the world can provide good references, it doesn't tell you anything about them. But no, they emailed me back and wanted the references... and demanded to know how my last dog died 15 years ago! What, like I ate the dog? Come on. It died of old age, what do you think? So I gave the references and politely explained how my last dog had died and why it had been so long since I'd owned one (I was serving in the Middle East). No response for a week. Then they emailed me and said thanks for my interest, would I like to fill out an application? Clearly they'd forgotten I'd applied. I was like... I've already filled one out but yes, we are still interested. Again, no response for another week. I assumed they had moved on to another buyer, so we went ahead and got another dog elsewhere. The same day we got our new dog, our friend calls us and says, "They messaged me this morning they were going to call me for a reference interview in 5-10 minutes but I've been waiting all day and haven't heard from them." I get an email later from them complaining about my references not answering, and I was like, "You know what? We never heard back from you so we already got a dog, good luck with everything." They reply back, mocking us for getting a "puppy mill dog" (we did not) and telling us we must be awful people. So yeah, that's the Paw Patrol Dayton experience.
