First – this review is based upon our experience with the properties customer service only. We admit we made a big mistake and failed to cancel a reservation, so if you are one who feels that is our stupidity, which it is, and we should pay 100% as the terms do indicate, then you can stop reading. However, if you have interest in how you may be treated if issues arise with a property that charges hundreds per night and deems themselves first class, then read on.
We made some bookings in LA for our trip to the Rose Bowl. A rare opportunity for us. Given the circumstances we didn't know the number of people, the when, and other details precisely but we wanted to have some options, as many people will do. Accommodations were going fast. We booked a few places, making sure they had cancellation opportunities. We cancelled the others with no problems but did somehow neglect to contact Sunshine Resorts. Never gave it a thought until we reviewed our credit card after returning home and find charges from Sunshine Resorts. They did indeed put the FULL cost (including taxes) on our credit card and $150 for incidentals, which was curious given we never checked in. It is our mistake and we want to take responsibility and not lie or try to be deceitful. We know the small print and legal terms state we are obligated for 100% but this was over $1,400 and we thought something more reasonable could be worked out. They agreed to refund the incidentals, which isn't much given we never were there, but they still want an outrageous amount to "settle". It is our fault, we accept that, and will pay a penalty. We even offered to pay for the first night since we did not show – over $400. We think the majority of reputable hotels and resorts would work out a much more reasonable no show charge to avoid any negative reviews such as this and/or credit card disputes. Sunshine Resorts looks at this as a money grab opportunity.
So, our objective with this review is to warn others of what might potentially happen if any issues arise during your visit or before and how they view your dollars. If we can keep one other family from getting the same treatment we will have received "something" for our huge mistake… buyer beware as they say.
