Visited for the first time since leaving the neighborhood. Items that weren't a part of this program were for the most part, priced okay. The meat section was alright. Produce section was nearly bare, but chock that up to stocking.
The problem is, and always has been, the scam that is get 5 for $20. The items offered in this category are now nearly half the store. Items that can be found as low as $2 elsewhere are being included in what is essentially a "gotcha" type of markup, making it seem as if you're getting a half decent deal when you're really paying absurd amounts for a bag of potato tots.
The sandwich meats are priced so high that it's nearly pointless to even be a part of the 5 for 20. They are actually now more expensive than most grocery stores that aren't supposed to be about savings and well priced food. The neighborhood I lived in, I know these people think they're doing better shopping there, and simply put, they aren't.
Shop elsewhere. Local spots like country stores, farmers markets for produce. Shop around for your meats. You'd be surprised how awful some of these "THE SAVINGS!" stores actually are. It's no longer reasonable to do all of your shopping in one place, and unfortunately, Save A Lot has no place in my shopping (nor should it yours), at all.
