Hi - I used Worthy ( for the 2nd time) to sell an old heirloom ring. Although their inspection found a chip in the diamond (which meant it wasn't worth as much as I thought), their was good bidding interest and it sold above the suggested reserve price. After getting quoted at a local pawn shop for $600 for my ring, I sent it to Worthy to see if I'd be able to get more for it. The process was very easy and straightfoward. Worthy had appraised my jewelry for $1100 and I accepted an offer for $90 less than that. I sent them a ring that has recently been purchased for $6k….I needed the money more than the ring so I gave them a shot. They appraised it and put it up for auction.
They recommended a "reserve price" of $343 and said that I shouldn't make it any higher than that or the ring won't sell. Me being naive, and having no experience with auctions I went with it. The auction lasted several days and the final bid at the end was $443. When I asked for my ring back, they said it was no longer in their possession.
I'm absolutely devastated! If I would have known that ring would've went for a measly $400 I would have just kept it. DO NOT TRUST THEM WOTH YOUR JEWELRY! I wish I'd read the reviews beforehand…now someone has a $6k ring for $400. Thanks Worthy. After their fees I got a little over $300.

As part of preparing your jewelry for auction, your ring was professionally cleaned and photographed by our expert team, and your center diamond was graded by the GIA, an industry-leading expert in diamond grading. Our recommended reserve price was determined by comparing the objective third-party grading report for your diamond and auction performance for jewelry pieces of comparable components and quality. As a reminder, you were given complete control to start your auction at our suggested amount or to set your own reserve price. Prior to starting your auction, you were required to acknowledge your understanding that once an offer meets or exceeds your set reserve price, the sale is final.
Although we were able to help you reach an offer that exceeded the reserve price you set, we are sorry to hear you are unhappy with the outcome of your auction. With that said, we also stand by our completely risk-free process that allows you to decide the minimum amount your jewelry sells for, regardless of the current market demand. All unsold jewelry is returned at no cost, in the same condition originally received.
To ensure you have realistic expectations when selling pre-owned jewelry, it is important to first understand that in a resale market, it is very likely for diamond jewelry to be sold for a significantly lower amount than what was originally paid. Retail prices commonly include markups for any overhead costs and profit margins that do not transfer over to a secondary market. These added costs are not part of a jewelry piece's intrinsic value and therefore will likely not be part of what a buyer will consider paying. Market demand can also shift over time, changing what buyers are looking for and what they are willing to pay for certain characteristics.

I would recommend Worthy. You will be happy with this process if you have reasonable expectations for your jewelry. Meaning you are likely not going to get what your item might appraise for – there has to be room for everyone to make money.
Overall I am happy with everything. Some things that went really well were: the overall process, the communication, the shipping was very easy and the automated emails and texts let me know what was happening at all the steps. They GIA grading took longer than expected but they informed me of that. The auction itself was easy to set-up and see where the bids were coming in and how much.
I think there are some small things that I would recommend to Worthy just to make things even better and help eliminate customer questions:
1) Clarify if they want GIA certificates: I had one. I followed the shipping instructions and didn't send any paperwork. Was later told the GIA would have been helpful to have
2) The auction length: The site indicated most were 48 hours. Mine was 72. I'm not sure how they decide the length but it would be helpful to know the length at the point you are setting up the auction.
3) Any promotional offers: if you sign up for a promotional offer – follow up to confirm with them. It would be awesome if there was a place in your account to see what you are signed up for, or even better if it was integrated into the screens where you set-up your auction

Answer: Yes, Worthy photographs your item and gets it appraised. Worthy will suggest a reserve price. You can set your own, though, like I did. Had my ring not reached the reserve, I would have had the option of accepting the sale or having my ring returned. I set my reserve price 5% over what they suggested and I received double what I set as my reserve. Something to note is since my ring had a flurry of attention on the last day, Worthy extended my auction time enabling me to receive more bids. My ring sold last night and I had an email this morning saying my deposit was made to my account. I will use them again and recommend them to my family.

Answer: I was offered a quick sale and it was less than what I had anticipated my minimum bid price would be. I was told my check was sent out. Hoping to receive the check any day now, All in all, the process was not everything I had hoped for... I received one phone call on a sunday with the quick sale offer and some basic info on the appraisal. If you created an on-line account and communicated via email then you at least have some paper trial of what has happened. I went in person and delivered a ring so all communication was via phone once I left the building.
