Worst App every played. Most greedy video game in the world.
October 4, 2022

This is a summary of the corruption and greed of Top Golf and WGT: I've been playing this app from the Apple App Store on my Apple laptop for years. In that time I can tell when the game changes. This is how WGT makes their money. They start promoting you as soon as you being playing with experience points. The reason why they do this is to push you further back on the tees and to change your swing meter so you can no longer control your clubs by centering the swing meter during your swing. Why? Becuase by making you fire your shooting into the deep rough you think if you buy clubs or clothing from them it will stop this, but it won't. When you buy a new club, no matter which one, or buy clothing, it will slow down your meter speed and you think you are happy, but then they bump you up another level (eg level 50 to 51, or Pro to Tour Pro, etc.,.). When they do this, the ONLY thing they are doing is changing the behavior of your swing meter so you an no longer center it. They also move you back on the tees. This means on 10% of the holes, you can't even reach the fairways. So again you think you need to buy clubs. But when you buy the longest clubs, they again move you back on the tees or give you conditions where you can't reach the greens in regulation again... but you through you had the highest rated/longest driver in the app... no, they hide longer clubs until you reach higher levels, then they show you those. I spent hours of my time watching free videos at 4 gold credits per video (1-2 minute videos) to get the longest driver that I could see in the store... the Taylormade Stealth driver... which goes 291 yards and has a 4.5 meter control value. I also got the same in the three wood. When you buy them (wether free credits or actual cash) the swing meter is nice and slow and you can center it. Within a week or so of paying your money they will change the meter speed on it again so it accelerates through the center of the meter (maybe due to bumping you up one level, eg, Level 50 to 51). I bought my driver and it was nice and slow all the way to center of the meter. Within two weeks as it approached the center of the meter it accelerated so fast I can no longer stop it in the center area. Now the average drive is between 1/2" and 1 inch right of center swing meter. Either that or you are trying to guess it so much that you wind up one full inch left of center and snap hook it into the woods that way. I've been playing this app for years. I'm very good at it, being ranked number one for many week intervals. I know how to play it. It is obvious when they change the conditions so you can no longer play it. I have the longest driver and the longest three wood in the store and I am still 60 yards from the green after the second shot on par 4s in this game. I can no longer control the driver nor the three wood and 90% of those shots wind up in the rough or in the sand. Winds no longer effect the shots like they used to. You will aim at the left edge of the fairway with a 20MPH left to right crosswind... hit it dead center in the meter... and your ball will wind up in the left rough. Explain to all of us how this is physically possible. It isn't! I started two weeks ago with ******* silver credits. Because of this greed, low character programming to make them money, I lost almost every single game for two weeks and now I have 500 silver coins. This is the most greedy and corrupt gaming company in the world. They move you back on the tees and call it promotion to the next level…all they are doing is making it impossible to reach the fairways and greens. Trying to make you buy clubs from them… but even after you buy clubs from them they screw up the programming code on the clubs you buy and once again you can't control them. Then the final insult after all this is they censor what you can say to other players regarding this system. They censor this statement... "I'm still 60 yards out". So there must have been so many people pissed off that they were warning the new players not to buy anything and WGT is now censoring comments about being in a game where you can't make par... can't make greens in regulation... can't make short putts becuase they are screwing with the shot meter so much. I got this game from the Apple App Store... Tim Cook took over Apple and began to remove games from the App Store, pushing people to Apple Arcade, a monthly paid service... Tim Cook bragged about "millions of choices in the App Store"... but now WGT enjoys a monopoly in the App Store. But they are under Apples thumb there. How do we know... try typing, "Tim Cook" in the message window next time you play... they censor that phrase too! You will get back " *****" instead of what you typed to the other player. This is what happens when you have no choices. If you have one electrical utility then they will begin charging you 1000. 00 per month because there is nothing you can do about it. One internet provider... and you're paying almost 100.00 per month just for internet connection. WGT is pure greed. They manipulate your game no matter what you spend, to make you spend more. There is no pro app version that you can pay to get out of this system. You are warned. Stay away from this game. If you play it, you know what to expect. Don't spend one cent there. It will make no difference as soon as they promote you to the next level.

Tip for consumers:

Stay away from this game. You will regret it.

Update
October 30, 2018

Let me lay down the dope. I have had enough. Frustrated beyond economical repair. And mind you this is a Master speaking with a hcap of 66.8.

WGT - Manipulators par excellence.

How they perpetrate this humongous con.

After every few games. The swing meter is tweaked to have a mind of its own. You will never be able to guage it's speed, as a result you will swing short or long resulting in a pull or a slice... both of which will send your ball traversing gloriously into the rough or a hungry bunker. On the green during the putt, the swing meter will display a will of it's own depending on whether it's your time to shine or bite the bullet. This is the manipulation. Changing the swing meter speed. And to add insult to injury wgt has the audacity to put an icon specifically to slow swing meter speed for which they charge 30 credits. Smartasses... think the whole world is dumb. I am sure most of us who have played the game long enough, would have experienced on a certain par 3 in chambers bay, if the distance to putt is 30 feet, the swing meter will show a max 15 feet. With time running out you will get into all manner of calisthenics and lo behold... These days I am cool as a cucumber, I just chip. Although it doesn't work well but alas what else to do.

The sole aim of WGT is commercial. With this vision... the game is designed to keep all parties happy and provide an illusion it is fair play. Ultimately everyone looses and is made to believe the reason is inferior equipment. So you naively buy better clubs and balls with the hope you will meet Mr. Fair play enroute. Sure enough you will think you are Tiger for a while vanquish ing all and sundry who dare to cross your path. But be sure this euphoria is at best shortlived... soon enough you will land on Terra firma. The window of slow meter dissappears. Oftentimes just when things are going Tickety boo and you are celebrating an emphatic win, the connection times out. Once a while when the meter is slow boy what a pleasure to play the game. The graphics are mind blowing. I just can't fathom why they cannot run a fair outfit. Hope it does not meet the same fate as cash play. It will be an unfortunate day for lovers of the game.

If you can survive the game long enough. Then it only reveals three things about you
1. U R Dumb or
2. U R Self realised or
3. U R addicted

By the time you are done with d game. Pls. Book an appointment with d shrink. Alternately accept the manipulations and be willing to loose some greenbacks each month, just to enjoy the sheer magic of the graphics.

In conclusion... today very few players wish each other good luck or good game. Because they all know it's only luck all d way. There is little or no skill. Keep your fingers crossed

Tip for consumers: Guys believe me. WGT & Cashplay are one of the biggest scam steers on the planet. If you don't believe me go ahead and flush ur hard earned bucks down their filthy arses.

Got Promoted to MASTER and PUSHED BACK 70 Yards on the Tee!?
July 15, 2017

Yes, people! WGT is full of BS. They just want your money. Read, FROM BOTTOM UP, my email conversations with them. They are rip-off artists! I still play, but I use the default clubs, If they put me into a non-competitive situation, I just forfeit. No harm, no money BILKED from me. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! Here's the emails and their WORTHLESS responses:

You didn't respond to my last email complaint. Here's a new one. I'm done with your GREED, which I read about from reviews of others. In addition to the complaint below, about me suddenly being "promoted" to MASTER and placed 30 to 70 yards BEHIND players whose LEVELS are higher than mine and with drivers that reach further than mine. I mean, that is just the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard of. You people must sit around all day, creating games to simulate REAL games you've obviously never played!

Now, I'm seeing, at crucial times, the wind affect the direction and distance of MY shot, but not my opponent's. Or other things, like at St. Andrews, MY ball, which is set at 100% negative spin (to stop it), roll 12+ yards, but my opponent's ball, a DEFAULT ball with ZERO SPIN capabilities, stop and roll 2 yards!? AND he hit from FURTHER OUT THAN ME! Hey, I worked in the software development field for 37 years. That is your software, making decisions and changing conditions. I think it's done to help bolster the interest of the newer, lesser-ranked player, to get him to spend more money, at the expense and enjoyment of the older, higher-ranked player, from whom you already have gotten money, and you now don't give a damn about him or her! Hey, it's not just me. I've read reviews from others early on about your greed!

You don't have to write me back. Just letting you know I am on to you, and I will now join the other reviewers and will inform others of my story and how you bilk people out of money. As for me, I'm fully recovered from surgery, and I don't need you anymore. I do enjoy the game at about a 75% level. The remaining 25% is negative, and it was brought on by YOU!

As I wrote below, I will still play the game, will use the remaining balls I purchased, and then I'll switch to the default FREE balls. Then when you pull your tricks, I'll just forfeit that match and will move on to the next player or just move on with something else for entertainment, other than this game. You'll not see a penny more of my money!

Subject: Re: [Topgolf] Re: WGT Golf Mobile - Apple

I started playing WGT Tour Golf quite heavily, because I am an avid golfer, and because I was recovering from major surgery with nothing else to do. The app is great and truly simulates exactly what goes on on the golf course, with one exception:

I have NEVER golfed with anyone who had the same or longer clubs than me, with the same skill level in using the clubs, but expected ME to hit every tee shot of every hole as much as 60 yards behind THEM! That's what you did by suddenly promoting me to Master. (I still question why the promotion when I was still getting beat by players at and below my level!?)

I have to say I'm offended by your response and having to spend my time writing this now. Your response ignores the issue I identified, goes off on a tangent, and it pretty much confirms my accusation that you just want me to spend MORE money on clubs when every club I own was purchased from YOU! Why would you even bring up renting clubs!? It costs more money to rent clubs.

I remember, during my recovery, I rented clubs left and right to decide what to ultimately buy. And just when I get exactly what I want in my bag, you "PROMOTE" me to Master, and push me 60 yards back to Tour Pros ranked HIGHER than me (meaning more experience), all the way down to HACKS with LONGER CLUBS and decent skills. So, look, I am NOT going to debate logic and common sense with you, while you're trying to spin something even Kelly Anne Conway would shy away from! But I do understand now what I didn't understand much earlier, when I read reviews about how you guys are "greedy" and "they want you to keep spending money" and they "turned me off always wanting you to spend money." And the comments weren't about balls. I don't have a problem with buying balls, although they should last longer, as they allow you flexibility in meter speed. But if the price goes up or if they start "wearing out" faster, I won't continue to buy them.

As for my complaint, the OBVIOUS thing to do is to factor in the LENGTH OF CLUBS when matching up players! If an Amateur to Hack has starter clubs, no problem putting me behind in yardage; BUT when they and Pros have Nike Vapor gear and can use it, absolutely NOT! (By the way, HOW do Hacks and Amateurs even get these LOCKED clubs anyway. They weren't open to me when I was at those levels. AND are you checking to see if advanced players with advanced clubs haven't somehow opened a second account and are posing as Hacks and Amateurs? When they can hit advanced shots regularly, they're NOT Level 7 Hacks, ok!)

But, as I wrote in my initial response, I'm not buying more clubs. You say you can't demote me back to TourPro, where I can be competitive, even though I'm playing 90+-level TourPros and getting my butt kicked routinely, and you won't even explain to me why I'm a Level 80 and got promoted to Master when there are TourPros, the title I was promoted from, who are OVER Level 90 and are STILL TourPros, so, there are two options as I see it:

1- I'll just forfeit when I run into Hacks, Amateurs, and Pros who have advanced clubs, NOT waste my time, and just move on to the next match up, or...

2- If you insist on creating a significant yardage disadvantage for me, then you could at least HELP me get a new driver by taking back one of the TWO I purchased from you already. I understand there is some facility for players to sell clubs, but I'm not looking to buy first and wait for someone to buy to recoup the additional expenditure. Perhaps you could take the higher end TaylorMade and give me credit toward a driver that hits 280 or better, with the same meter speed as the TaylorMade. That would make me feel better and show that you're not trying to take advantage of me by making me buy a THIRD driver.

Description: I am level 82. I just got promoted to Master fromTourPro. I am now at a MAJOR disadvantage in yardage to PROS, AMATEURS, and HACKS, some who have clubs that are longer than mine and hit from the short tees while I'm at the longest tees!? I don't know how you think this would be fun for anybody. This is why my LONG string of consecutive days of play just ended. I lost interest. And I did not spend my good money on clubs and balls for this. Heck, for some reason, I have lost 10 yards on my longest driver on a flat fairway in only 2 to 4mph of wind. What's going on here? Is the expectation that I need to buy MORE clubs? No! Now, the other day, I played a level 90 Tourpro. How come he's not a Master!? Bottom line, if this is how it's going to be going forward then demote me back toTourPro or refund some of my money for these clubs, and I'll find a different game for entertainment as opposed to the FRUSTRATION you've created for me. I don't need it!

Looks like Golf, but is really just a cash cow...
October 14, 2014

Looks like Golf, but is really just a cash cow... so sad.
The true game of golf, one of the few game where players call penalties on themselves, is a game for the ages. Playable from practically cradle to grave, one's ability to play the game well is seldom a matter of how much money he/she can afford to spend.

Most practice that develops the necessary skills and confidence to hit farther, create backspin, control fades and draws, and limit lost strokes in the "less than 100 yards" range are done on driving ranges and chipping greens for little or no cost.

What make the biggest difference in someone's ability to play golf well is the time spent in honing their game. The more practice and the more rounds played generally equate to longer drives, closer approaches, better chipping, and more accurate putting. While equipment can make a marked improvement to tour players, where an extra 10-20 yards off the tee, or 3-more drained putts per round can take them from 130th on the money list to the top ten, the majority of their skills would shine through using persimmon woods, cast irons with round grooves, and gutta percha balls. They would still spank all of our butts, even if we were using the latest and greatest equipment and balls.

Obviously, WGT Golf does not even make a veiled attempt to provide a game where the amount of play and practice equates to the greatest improvement to the player's capabilities. Sure, the more I play, the better I get using the meager equipment that I have free to use, but unless I dig in my pocket, for substantial dollars, I can never hit a 270 yard drive with no helping wind. Heck, I was doing that after playing for less than a year and using a persimmon driver.

Look, it is not a mystery as to the point I am making and what I would like to see happen. WGT is using golf as a prostitute. This wonderful, exhilarating, demanding, and even sometimes fulfilling game many of us dearly love. To remove the most fundamental tenets of the game while distorting how one gets better is a bitter slap in the face to anyone who cares about golf.

I understand trying to make a good living, and the graphics of the game you have are wonderful. A better camera angle system, add different shot configurations, and make the control more stable and reliable could help, but those that disappoint me most are the Golf Channel and Golf Now who support and use WGT - seemingly in full support. That WGT is expanding the number of people who know there is a game called Golf, and you can play a sickly distorted version of it online for free, is no excuse for supporting a company that so badly represents our revered and wonderful game.

As a side note, please do not offer that "Oh, you can get credits for getting gear by watching videos and doing surveys". WGT does no internal quality control of the audit-credit system, and as many of you who have done the surveys can attest, many of then run you around in loops, disqualify with no 5-point credit, and often do not credit when completed. The surveys takes hours to complete for only a couple hundred credits, and the credits earned from watching videos does not make them worth the time.

So, thank you for staying with me... I am almost done.

What would I like to see happen? How about tracking player's hours of play, quality of play, times they beat higher ranked competitors, and goodwill involvement with charity events to be the primary metric by which players become more skilled. Increase our statistics based on amount and quality of play - just like in the real world.

You have done wonderful things with the most daunting task of making golf very realistic on a computer - a monumentous feat for sure - but then ignore the most basic fundamentals of the game - something that would have been a breeze to accomplish.

I plan to send this post to ESPN, The Golf Channel, CBS Sports, CNN, and Golf Now to see if I can get exposure. That is how offensive I feel your business model is to one of the greatest games ever. And I hope The Golf Channel and others reconsider their support of your site until you restore the honor of this venerable game.
