Extremely frustrating to deal with, considering you get no credit for simple mistakes like incorrect name spelling. Text is always unrelated and there have been many times when submitting an assignment erases EVERYTHING. Stay away if you can.
I have to use this site for college Spanish and its horrible. The questions make no sense at all, sometimes my HISPANIC FRIENDS don't even understand what it wants. Also the book barely teaches anything either and is even more confusing. I know several free sites that are way better than this. This website pisses me off even more when theres only "one attempt" for an activity that I completely fail due to the directions making no sense. I usually fail all the lessons the first time because I don't know what it wants and it takes 20 tries to get it right.
Seriously, VHL and everyone who made it should go hang themselves, and if you work for this company, literally go kill yourself. This makes me hate learning a language. They give you 75 useless assignments for just one week, and you never actually learn the language.
This website is terrible I wouldn't even give it one star. The questions are subjective and then have a right answer. It'll show you a photo of two people drinking coffee outside of a cafe (no books in sight), and the correct answer is that they're both students. Adds in vocabulary words that weren't in the textbook, and half the time you have to submit your answers twice. I hate that I spent money on this and any teacher who uses it clearly didn't research it first.
Some early lessons are helpful but students can enable easily accessible settings to cheat through lessons and get 100% without learning any Spanish and for the students that try to complete it honestly it is challenging even for a native Spanish speaker. On parts meant to test for pronunciation, the speech recognizing program is very sensitive so in a loud classroom where most students are attempting to pronounce words, it does not recognize the words so most students don't try to do it legit and enable a ¨manual mode¨ where you are expected to grade yourself but most students just tell the program they got it all right. So TLDR horrible very hard lessons that mostly act as tests where it is easy to cheat on most questions. Personly would recommend Duolingo.
This site is so terrible. It constantly erases your answers. You have to do your assignments multiple times to count. The answers are extremely specific and full of errors. It automatically capitalizes every word and marks you off for it. It makes you log in continually at random times.
This is it. The worst website I have ever used. Its been 6 months now and It couldn't do what free Duolingo did in 1 hour. I have never needed to write a review before. But this website is so frustratingly bad that I felt like I needed to. Don't use this. It sucks..
I immediately regretted the Spanish course I bought for college, it looked like a really bad way to learn, straight off the bat (you don't get a preview). So I asked for a refund and they said I couldn't get one even though I clearly hadn't used it and I was asking a couple of days after purchasing.
Don't buy this product, there are far easier ways to learn languages from far more decent companies. For instance, I went to my Babbel account that I had been learning French on for a year and changed the language to Spanish (out of lots of language options) and immediately I got the Spanish course right from the beginning, fantastic! For the same money Babbel give you so much more. Go with them, not these con artists.
When I first started using it for school, I tried and look past its many flaws, such as slight mispellings and punctuation. But, once I did the lessons, I noticed how BAD the service, teaching, lessons, and everything was. Never use it, 0.5/10
I find vhl to be very user UNfriendly. I have contacted tech support and gotten nowhere. What I was able to figure out, I figures out myself. I also think it's outrageous the prices that are charged and the manipulation that goes on. I would never recommend vhl to my colleagues who teach world languages. It is truly a nightmare. My students would agreee.
Some of the assignments have been so confusing the entire class has failed them. In some they don't specify things like gender/number of people, all important things. Even fluent speakers have had trouble with this damn site. Not to mention it doesn't tell you what you did wrong. The videos are also painful to watch, and that's without the buffering. And the textbook. Hell. Be prepared to spend a lot of time googling because their grammar explanations aren't nearly detailed enough. This waste of money doesn't even let you go back to retry last semesters lessons, so after this semester I will have spent 200 for a book an access code that doesn't do $#*!. This company is enough to make me stop learning a language. It actually did for a few years, until I transferred schools to one that doesn't use this complete and utter crap. It makes me want to pull my hair out.
I would love to learn a language, and there are countless ways to learn online. Youtube, podcasts, apps etc. Vista is not one of them. Many of what I mentioned before are free or cheap, Vista is 270 dollars. Their online textbook is poorly done the font is so small, it's inacessible and nearly useless I have to strain my eyes to use it. Their online website doesn't help you when you get something wrong it simply highights the word with no explanation and this is a 101 class I am in. I have no where near the fluency to remember how to fix every mistake I make heck I will keep making them for a long time that's how you learn. This textbook is a typical expensive textbook that doesn't actually teach it simply vomits information.
If I could give this 0 stars I could. So bad I rather get scammed for all my money then use this trash a** website whoever created this I hate you more than anything hint on this earth. $#*! asss website $#*!ing sucks fix this piece of $#*!. $#*! whoever created this trash $#*! mother $#*!ing website.
What is this? I don't understand the questions, they are INCREDIBLY specific. I know this for a fact because I am a student of a teacher who uses this. Do not use it unless you want to feel like going to the top of your house, slamming your head on the top of your roof then to the ceiling of the room, then in the floor, then all the way to the center of the earth and burning yourself alive.
I use this site for my Spanish class and it is so annoyingly picky with how it wants questions answered. I wish I could give it zero stars. Often I have to think about my answers. I also have to do other things alongside it such as research. The result of that is that it gets too impatient after a long period of inactivity, getting me annoyed at it for the whole time I'm on. Sometimes it's unclear of what they want from me and others whenever we give an answer to a question because everything will look right from the spelling to the grammar as well and then we realize that we got the question wrong. LIKE WHAT DID YOU EVEN WANT?!?!?! WHAT WERE YOU LOOKING FOR UGH! Sometimes instructions are unclear and I swear this website is too precise with what it wants it's $#*!ing annoying. Seriously though, if you can avoid this website at all costs, please do. It's not worth the time and money to deal with the annoyances it carries.
First I have been using Spanish imperfectly for 10 years, I am intimately familiar with the language its sounds, vocabulary, etc. I started taking classes because my grammer was very poor because I learned Spanish in the street and on the fly and most people never corrected my mistakes.
That being said, this book is an atrocity. I feel so bad for kids where theybare trying to learn Spanish and use this absolute garbage. This book has absolutely no explanations in it what so ever, it doesnt explain anything. To compound the problem is the book itself is erratic, there are things and boxes and colors and pictures EVERYWHWRE making very hard to follow any sort of linear model of up down left to right.
Professors who use this book should be shot.
Welp. D-U-M-B, would rate a 0. The french textbook puts in lots of stupid words you don't know, and expects you to know how to order the phrases to get the damned answer. Like how to confuse people more than the language already does is to make the site even worse than the language! The language typeing parts are the worst! And the only half decent parts are the multiple choice parts where the parts are already typed out for you. In short: don't use this damn site unless you need to.
I am trying to do my assignment and the website won't let me do anything and sometimes says that th right answer is wrong and you run out of attempts
Not only was I forced to pay an nonrefundable $175usd to rent an online access code(so that I can't even sell the book back to recoup some of the price), but this program is actively killing my desire to learn a foreign language. The textbook is topical at best and doesn't scale well since its just a pdf, and the questions are subjective and have a very thin margin of error. Not to mention that the system for synchronous group projects is *literally* broken. Find out if your university uses this program beforehand, and AVOID IT ALL COSTS.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
They will happily take hundreds from your bank account then tell you that you need to buy another code to access what you have just purchased. They are predatory and make sure they do all that they can to scam students for every cent they have. This company needs to be investigated by the state of California and fined for every student they have ripped off.
Answer: It's a scam - you are forced to purchase the book for a class you a registered in. I reached out for a refund when I realized how truly terrible the program was and was told I could not get a refund.
Answer: My Spanish teacher forced it on me and the rest of the Spanish I class, so I didn't really get a say in it.
Answer: Unfortunately yes the site is real do not purchase
