Awesome freelance workplace to be and meet great clients! I'm a freelancer video editor for 8 years now thanks to Upwork. I started my career on this platform and it's the best out there! I've tried others as well but Upwork Rules!
The first few months were challenging on UpWork. If you stay focused to any one platform. You'll surely get amazing results and lots of quality clients. I remember a year where I had earned over 25K just working part time. UpWork is amazing.
I got lucky. My client and I got "flagged" for "suspicious activity" after I'd made 50$ on two other odd jobs. They locked down my account and spent the last week doing nothing but asking us for screen shots of various things(email, the work, etc.) At one point, they started pasting the stock reply into our Zendesk ticket to keep as satisfied. I've given up.
I'm very glad I didn't get a chance to bill this client the 1,000$ through the platform, because I'll never get the 50$ back that is already in escrow there. Part of the suspension is the inability to withdraw your money. I think that's why they do it.
It was a great experience. If anyone wants to get a higher paid job by working with good clients professionally, this place is best from my suggestion. The interface and system is much improved now. The person who are real skilled, start here. Thank you.
I've used upwork now for 2 years and made good money here. I wish their premium service could offer less upwork fees on new contracts, and also a possibility to ad more specialized profiles. Other than that its a great platform to get into freelancing in any type of jobs you're looking for.
Upwork is best freelancer site i worked with. Project posted by customers are all valid and payment reference also valid when we complete project.
Only one drawback for freelancers that they charge a lot 20%.
UpWork only cares about the money from their clients. Freelancers work is irrelevant to them. They will vouch for the client more than anything, and t hey won't care what the freelancer thinks. An individual is underpaid and overworked. I don't recommend this organization to anyone. In fact, work outside your house if you can.
One would have thought a job marketplace as safe as this would be unachievable, looking at the rate of cyber insecurity, but Upwork boast of such a safe virtual workplace environment.
Its impact to deflate balloon of skyrocketing unemployment is incredibly great.
For me, it has boost my monthly turnover. I can't wait to win more jobs, deliver satisfactorily, earn more badges and turn it from side hustle to main career.
Upwork is an excellent portal for new and experienced freelancers looking to build their careers. Even if you're interested in taking up part-time gigs, this is a great platform to do so.
It offers a wide range of opportunities in both general and technical fields.
Getting approved can be difficult, but once you're accepted. You can make a decent living with your hard work.
Although happy with the freelance work, I found their customer service and payment processing to be horrible. While the freelancer and I agreed to a fixed payment of $200 for a simple logo, I was charged far in excess (at one point over $600). You think it's fixed, and then they charge you again. I had no response to emails or phone calls. I feared it was a "shell" company. I finally sent out a tweet and got a response and then had to wait almost 5 days before I could speak to a person (rather than a "bot') who went on about "exchange rates" between Canada and U.S. being the discrepancy. I don't know how any American can insist that exchange rates are 3:1 when they are more like 25-30% lower for Canadian dollar! It took a long time for me to escalate this issue to the next level and although they did credit my account, there was always something missing. I just decided to cut my losses, change my credit card and NEVER use them again. Nightmare.
Poor customer service, it sucks, my account has been suspended for multiple proposal, I have a lot of previous jobs and got 5 stars feedback, I did pass all the information to many time to upwork and nothing happened but thanks to my client he still paid me thru paypal.
As an full time video editor the most difficult part of my job was to find jobs and land clients, In my 2 year freelance journey I've found upwork to be the best platform for any freelancer out there.
Despite of tough competition and various level of prospective client with different budgets, it's still my online medium to acquire new contracts and keep long-term relationship with my clients. Upwork now focusing on top talent selections which I think increase the platform reputation and will attract reputable companies to hire expert contractors for short/long terms projects.
I am a student of IT, and mostly my searches are related to online earning platforms. This site is great for students who want to work for other people from all over the world and share their talent globally.
Upwork recently suspended account without any reason. They told me that there's some violation regarding asking client's payment via paypal or something. But i never did, i asked some for some proof, they din't replied me either.
Moreover, just before getting suspended. I used to move my entire Clients either from other platforms / Facebook / Twitter and real life ones to upwork, so i could make my portfolio. But upwork ruined it at all. This is disgusting and totally unacceptable. I've referred 12 new people to use Upwork but now i am going to aware them with its reality that they're just like hell.
Please stay away from such a company. These are the real scammers.
I have submitted three emails to the Upwork staff regarding an email they sent me that had errors in it on their end. Every. Single. Email. EVERY ONE of them I got an instant email back with the same generic "we can't accept you because there isn't demand for it." Meanwhile, more than 1,600+ jobs are sitting wide open, ready for people who are willing and able to work to get clients projects completed.
What gets me is that they already had the information from me as to what my skill sets were (for which I am evidently being denied) - before I even was required to put in my personal details, such as my workplace, physical address, and phone number. So now, not only does this company have my information - they won't even consider allowing me to apply for jobs with them.
Stay the heck away from this company. Please. I wanted to have faith in this company, but their automatic system is murdering them.
Have you noticed? Upwork seems to operate more like a gambling platform than a freelancing site. The increased prices for connects, the need for connects to boost bids or earn the 'Available Now' badge – it feels like freelancers are being taken advantage of at every turn.
Consider this: for every job posted, Upwork can potentially pocket $300-$500 in connects from freelancers, even for projects as low as $50. On top of that, they take a 20% commission from both clients and freelancers, meaning they could be making hundreds from a single $50 job. It's starting to feel less like a fair marketplace and more like a gamble.
I'm skeptical that Upwork will prioritize improving its system for the benefit of middle-class freelancers anytime soon. It seems like more than 20% of freelancers have already migrated to platforms like Fiverr due to these practices.
Upwork, are you willing to address these concerns and make changes that support the freelancing community, or are you solely focused on catering to agency profiles? Clarification would be appreciated." #Upwork
I have found that Upwork is a complete waste of valuable time as after twice placing a job and ending up with zero freelancers capable of doing the required tasks I gave up. Is there a reliable source for finding freelance web programmer/builders
There can be initial interest in your job posted on Upwork but as is so typical of freelance programmers it seems, their communication skills are often non existent and they subsequently drop off the radar without quoting for the work. How one can deal with this level of ignorance is beyond me as someone trying to start a business and pay out good money for professional help.
The Upwork site is not very unhelpful in my opinion with no facility to draw attention to unprofessional conduct or failures to respond in a coherent and timely manner.
Total waste.
Great online platform that helps Clients grow their business and helps Freelancers to land a fulfilling job. With lots of relevant jobs posted everyday that match your skills and expertise as well as competitive salaries and benefits. I feel blessed to be part of Upwork, they gave me the opportunity to pursue my freelancing career and strive more to become successful. I also want to take this chance to share a bible verse that motivates me (2 Corinthians 9:8) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. Keep the jobs coming to help even more people. Great job Upwork, kudos to the whole team. God bless you more.
There are better freelancing platforms than Upwork. They will occasionally request a random interview and don't mention they charge service fees upon sign up. Also, there are a lot of online threads about account suspensions out of the blue. This platform is like one of those apps that go bad after an update!
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
Upwork has a rating of 2.3 stars from 2,122 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Upwork most frequently mention customer service, credit card and job success. Upwork ranks 7th among Freelancing sites.
