The company has garnered significant criticism for its customer service, with many customers expressing frustration over the lack of responsive support and difficulties in obtaining refunds. Common complaints include billing issues, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of accountability for damages caused by sitters. While some users reported positive experiences with sitters, the overall sentiment reflects a sense of disappointment and mistrust, particularly among sitters who feel exploited by the fee structure. I've had the pleasure of house sitting two homes and experience taking care of some really sweet animals. My next step is to go globally and experience house sitting new places! What a great idea! I've also talked with the home owners and they too have used this website a lot and saved a lot of money.
So far, so good! I've been telling everyone about it.
I love to travel but don't have the budget to stay in hotels. I love animals but don't have the time to commit to my own pet again full time. This allows me to meet new people, their pets and stay in lovely places! I get to love on pets plus give their families the knowledge that their pets will be safe and well cared for. I feel safe staying in their homes as I know that they have been checked out as much as I have been. I wouldn't do this if I ever felt unsafe or that I had been put in harm's way. It's a wonderful way to meet like-minded people from all over the world!
Thank you, there was a misunderstanding about a review and it was quickly solved by one of the staff of Trusted Housesitters custom service, house owners and myself happy again!
The whole business is built on Trust and has been well designed to give Trust to both the sitter and homeowner for both their home and their beloved pets.
I have done two sits so far, and although the first one was great, the owner was a poor communicator before and after the sit, and never responded to my request for a review. My second house sit was an unqualified success, with a committed pet owner who has wonderful communication skills.
One small technical problem with the site was solved quickly and efficiently with a very friendly person in customer service.
I have been telling everyone about this site, and highly recommend it!
Trusted Housesitters used to be a great site with helpful customer service. Last few years, though, they've grown too big... and their customer service is getting worse and worse. Lots of platitudes, no real help -- especially for housesitters who experience last-minute cancellations by their pet-owning hosts. They don't have enough homeowner members, so they really skew their efforts to the homeowners, screwing housesitters!
I've enjoyed the experiences of house-sitting, which provide a great way to travel without having to pay too much, and the bonus of meeting some great people, as well as lovely pets.
Recently completed our first house sit on the other side of the world to where we live.
Everything was perfect and have recommended this site to many others already.
Ps am not a staff member putting in a fake review which I see someone suggested.
I had my first experience using Trustedhousesitters in Spain, where I met incredible people and their pets were just amazing! I'm on my second experience in France and It's been incredible so far.
My first experience with the company lived up to the name - it does what it says on the tin. I felt safe during the sit and had no problems with lovely cat Otto.
I've just completed my third housesit, and everything has been just as expected. The homeowners provided great information, the pets were really nice, and it is a wonderful way to explore new areas. Whenever I've had questions, I've gotten great response from the support team.
Just had my second experience. Lovely welcoming pet owners and 2 sweet puppies. Great start, look forward to many more.
The site works well - though there were a few technical glitches at first - and has an enormous number of house sits listed all over the world. I think house owners being able to put up references directly on the site gives the site an edge on others and should reassure future owners. All the house sits I've done have been most successful. House owners have been very helpful and accommodating and all the animals I have had in my care have been lovely.
We've met some amazing pets. Stayed in some fabulous homes and explored places we'd never have visited otherwise
All my housesits have been great. Lovely dogs and lovely owners. I did have a problem with my subscription, but that was sorted out and a refund was given. I usually apply for housesits in the areas around where I live so that I can pop back home to check my place.
I joined this site as a sitter 3 years ago, but didn't apply for any sits until recently. Have had great luck with my sits, home/pet owners were clear about expectations, left detailed notes and even restaurant/things to do recommendations. Agree with another reviewer - communication is the key to satisfaction for both parties. Am staying in great places and meeting great people, great pets!
We first heard about TH from an article in Saga Magazine and was interested to find out more. We joined as sitters, and wrote our profile with the aim to attract our first assignment. It wasn't easy without references. TH suggested we apply to several listings at one time, and advised adjustments to our profile. We spent hours trawling the site for a UK sit and was offered our first from a family not far from where we live. There were emails and Skype calls to ensure both parties were happy with arrangements before we agreed to sit. We believe communication is key to finding a great sit. We have learned from experience to ask as many questions we feel is necessary to be comfortable about a sit. Our 5* reviews show how good our experiences with Trustedhousesitters has been. We have stayed in lovely homes, in beautiful locations. Met hospitable, interesting people and enjoyed caring for a variety of animals.
One minor point; the animals shown on the listing or the accommodation on offer, are not always as advertised. However TH cannot be blamed for misinformation from owners. As I said, communication is key.
This is just a great service on both sides. Stayed in some wonderful places, met some really great people and pets, and had some super people take care of our dog as well. An amazing experience and we love it!
I have house-sat with TH in the States, Canada and the UK and have had only great experiences. I had only applied for far-away destinations, but local homeowners also found me on TH and engaged me, and I have ended up also having great mini-vacations with lovely pets only a few miles from home `` such a great break. Extensive emails back and forth essential, and for local sits I always meet them in person weeks ahead of time as well. I also will send documents to prospective homeowners to prove I am legitimate, and have asked homeowners for references of their own in the past. There is a lot of trust involved on both sides, so both sides should do as much research as possible. I do not have any pets right now so am very happy to play and care for other peoples' pets. I have found the homeowners I have helped out to be universally grateful and relieved to have someone caring to trust with their pets and home. In return, I am appreciative of the trust they show me and the chance for a free vacation in interesting places plus pets! What could be better? (I do not charge a fee). I always leave the house as clean or cleaner than when I arrived. Perfect arrangements for me, as I am a young retiree with grown children who loves pets, is good at outdoor and indoor work and is self-motivated to do a good job. If I apply to something it is only after some thought so I always ask them to briefly acknowledge my application even if they have chosen someone else. This has worked every time but once. Was it a false review, as one reviewer suggests? Possibly... or maybe it is a careless person who neglected to remove his ad after having chosen someone.
Again, I urge everyone to get as much info on the other person as possible before accepting, to avoid uncomfortable or dangerous situations.
I would also like to see more homeowners think to add requirements such as "dog must not be left alone for more than 4 hours". I am surprised that all dogowners do not do this.
For me, TH has been worth the annual fee.
Thank you Trustedhouse for giving me the opportunity to house/pet sit, it's a great way of getting close to the animals. I really enjoyed my first sit and hope to do more soon.
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. debbieandwillwilburn@gmail.com Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.
Answer: Hi Caroline, Thank you for your question, forgive my delayed reply. If you haven't already contacted the Membership Services Team (https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb) I would encourage you to do so and they will help you to get this resolved. Kind Regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Hello Kelly,
I am really sorry to hear that after your many years of success on the site that you are experiencing the issues mentioned in your review.
Please be assured as discussed in recent emails we are more than happy to take all of your member feedback on board and I will personally make sure that any feedback submitted is raised with the appropriate teams.
Whilst we never want a sit to not go ahead as planned for any sitter or owner, in the event that a pet sadly passed away this may lead to planned arrangements being changed. In the unlikely event that this does happen we can help you look for other sits in that area and are always on hand to support you and the owner.
We are constantly working hard to grow both sides of the community. With hundreds of new home listings being added to the site every week, along with existing owners adding new available dates to their listings - there are lots of exciting sitting opportunities for sitters in the community.
Please do send any feedback to me via our email thread and I will get that passed on for you.
Thank you
Carla
