June 26th, 2022

In the month of June 2022 I purchased a mid century modern desk for my home. It was very sleek in design and actually looked like an expensive piece of furniture. I was excited to finally after months of searching find this piece.
I am a novice in regard to assembly of furniture, but I do have common knowledge in this field.
The desk, Model RTA-1854 is a very complicated assembly process. I worked for 12+ hours the first day. The assembly is 22 steps.
After 40+ hours of assembly and reaching step 22 the final task is to close the front drawer. The drawer closed like a vault due to oversized bumpers the drawer rails had.
I will add that the desk does not look like a desk at all. There are 3 hidden drawers in the desk. 2 drawers open horizontally and then there is the front middle drawer. It provides enough space for daily desk supplies.
I was heartbroken after completing the desk "perfectly" I will add to find I could not open the front middle drawer.
I notified the company I purchased the desk from who was willing minus questions to accept the desk back and minus dismantling the desk.
I also brought to their attention that the desk could be a risk to children who could receive a hand crush injury if they saw Mom or Dad open the side drawers. It would be like a toy for a curious child.
My search for a desk began again.
However, after about a week or 2 into the search I considered purchasing silicone spray lubricant to insure the drawer rails were adequately lubed prior to adding the rails to the desk.
So I ordered the same desk again, but this time prepared to make certain the rails were adequately lubed.
The desk arrived again. The first day of assembly I encountered a problem with the base connecting to the desk bottom. This is where the drawers must attach to.
The desk top was not drilled properly. It was approximately a 1/4 inch off. The bolts could not feed into the hardware embedded in the desk bottom.
I notified TechniMobili wanting a replacement part. They flatly refused to issue me a new part.
They demanded a video of the problem. How would I video inside a dark hole the fact that no connecting part was there? The desk bottom would cover up the intended connecting hole.
I then began to measure this piece to see if the next steps were lined up. They were not. They were off 1/8 inch. So the drawers would protrude. This was not the design of the desk.
After discovering the next misaligned section I began to disassemble the desk and prepare it for return.
It is not my place to retro-fit a computer-generated piece of furniture.
I also spoke to a furniture assembler who wanted $30.00 per hour. He stated all new hardware would need to be purchased. He also stated there was no guarantee his efforts would result in an assembled desk. He stated that when discrepancies are found in measurements of an item this results in him having to correct all the misalignments.
He also estimated it could take him 20+ hours or more of time to assemble the desk.
The company does not want the customer submitting a review on Amazon as example. This would ruin their business of course.
I did my initial homework in checking reviews for the desk on various sites. Individuals found the assembly tedious, but still loved the desk after their hard work.
So my advice to any one considering this desk is to avoid it at all costs.
All total I spent over 65 hours of time assembling one desk to completion; getting the second desk 1/6 complete; plus my time to carefully wrap the second desk for removal.
If we as consumers stop doing business with companies like this it may teach them a lesson.
The fact that the customer support department encouraged a return versus sending me a new part is unheard of.
I also spent additional funds on extra supplies here--wood glue to glue specific parts of the desk; threadlock glue to insure each bolt held; silicone spray; plus mailing tape and plastic sheeting to return the second desk. These items alone cost me over $65.00.
So my quest to find a desk begins again.
Unless you are a seasoned woodworker avoid any TechniMobili item; especially this model desk.
We as consumers have rights. Sometimes it may mean forfeiting on an item we desire.
Thank You
