I'm really diligent with researching sites prior to ordering, but this site popped up on Facebook during the Christmas season advertising a pop up sale. The site is almost identical to Talbot's and when I browsed the items, it was mostly seasonal and off season merchandise on sale so it seemed reasonable that it was a clearance sale. They were also running a timer in the corner stating that the sale was ending X amount of time (it started at 20 minutes). The site advertised free shipping over $59, so I also wanted to get to that amount. After choosing my items, I quickly received an emailed confirmation of my purchase. I noticed that I did not see a sales tax, but it did not really click at the time. I also realize afterwards that the site was Talbot's Outlets and not just Talbot's. The next day I checked my bank account and saw the charge was from some unidentifiable site, so I immediately did the due diligence I should have done in advance and discovered that this is a big scam that many people have gotten caught up in. I immediately called my CC company to notify them. At that time the charge was pending so they had to wait until it processed. (Keep in mind it hit my card immediately, and companies are not supposed to bill until items ship.)
After a few days, I called my card again and they took a long statement from me to obtain the info about where I found the site, email correspondence from the site, and the items that I tried to order. They reversed the charge pending fraud investigation. I also notified Facebook as the ad was still popping up there. It's now been almost a month and I have not heard anything else regarding this.
Anyone considering this site can do a quick internet search and confirm this.
