Two locations! One great, one negative!
November 5, 2023

JUST COMPLETED CLOSING MY SON'S Indiana furniture storage and Michigan car storage of seven years! My son suffers from long term illness, requiring him to be under the care if a guardian! I act only at this point as his contact person! Recently the quardian in charge of his Social Security stopped paying both locations without my sons knowledge! I received notices of liens from both locations! I immediately contacted both! In order to inspect the Indiana unit and yhe automobile condition I had to pay amounts due on them which Idid! INDIANA PERSONNEL WERE WONDERFUL acknowledged that Guardian Finance and Advocacy was responsible for storage fees from then moving forward! PORTAGE FACILITY, has changed Hans several times in the 7 year storage period! Present management made closing very Unpleasant! First not acknowledging the storage commitment was really my son's, under guardians guidance which I wS in the beginning! Agent said they didn't care who paid it, just so it was paid! My license notice bill was for $225 Dollars if paid before the 24th of October! I presented the statement to the agent to pay that amount! Upon review I discovered she had taken $315 adding on expenses that would have occurred if going to auction! When I returned pointing out the error in billing charges she was very rude and did not acknowledge her error in billing! I asked to speak with her manager by phone! Upon placing the call for me she informed the manager that her billing was correct and I asked to speak to her manager myself! Her reply wS don't touch my phone, don't touch my phone so she held it while manager simply stood by her agent's explanation as true! I am following up with letters to Portage Management and Corporate Office asking for a refund of the overcharged of $74 plus $20 late fee!

Terrible company!
December 5, 2019

Stay away from SROA. This used to be cubesmart who I started a unit (with holes in the ceiling) on 2/18. My sister got this unit for me and paid three months in advance. After a bit of time and a jump from $55 to $76 I kept this unit and transferred it into my name. Fast forward to now; SROA now owns it and I received nothing about this switch, my rent did stay at $76. I'm a few days over a week late and I was charged $90! Again, no notice about change or late fee of $20. Should input word greed here! I called today to ask about this and why I was not able to get into my unit prior to 11/28/19. The woman or girl who answered the phone was so unbelievably rude I could not even finish my sentence before she started snapping at me. Then a man (maybe the manager but a terrible one) who obviously lacks in communication skills began to chime in, in the background just as rude as the girl who answered the phone. They still had my sisters address even though I changed it approximately a year ago. He was so rude I was shocked. I said I did not know about the late fee because I was not notified and didn't have one prior and the girl rudely stated "it began December 1st". With this rudeness and the fact I had to pay $90 for a small unit with again A HOLE IN THE CEILING. I said I will pay the $90 but I will be going to another unit and asked how long this payment is good for which she rudely stated "December 22". I am now going to a storage facility in Linden who not only is way less but so very polite. I do not, repeat DO NOT recommend this storage unit and their bloated prices and increases. When I said I would be leaving there all the girl said was "ok" in a chipper, happy to see you go attitude. I will be leaving reviews on YELP and any other resource I can find to warn others about my experience with SROA in Fenton, MI. So this experience was so negative I'm now paying for a rental truck, a new unit and had to pay the $20 late fee, it will cost over $150. All because of 1) RUDE customer service... 2) not willing to budge on a late fee I was not notified about and 3) a lack of care from losing a loyal customer. Thankful to be relocating... As an update. I did in fact leave the today I paid their bloated price of $90 and both rude workers were there "trying" to make me uncomfortable as the short man (Manager) sat and starred at me the entire time. Not one "I'm sorry ", "is there anything we can do to change your mind"? Nothing just here you go in a chipper voice as they gave me my last receipt and to make matters worse they refused to unlock the gate! I had to get out of the moving van and literally yell at the young girl who was laughing through the window to "open the da-n gate". As if I were dealing with two children. The owners of SROA should know how their employees behave because they will surely lose a lot of business. Again, I had a month after today's payment to leave and I left that unit after 5-hours of talking to the Napoleon Complex Manager and his sidekick. So relieved I'm done with SROA :)
