Its a dead site.
July 3, 2022

My first experience with soundcloud was back in early
2012. Back then SC was fun, there was the groups
Feature which let you share your music to a much wider
Audience than you could now. Best of all, it was
Interactive. This feature was removed in 2016

Fast forward another 6 years, SC seems to me to be a
Grave yard. The big wigs moved in and pushed all the
Little people out with their corporatism and now in my
Opinion is a ghost of its former self.

All of the people I used to follow still
Have there acounts there, although no activity in years.
Granted real life gets in the way and has priority.
Where is the incentive to create and share anything at all on website,
Where the fun has been removed and the only interaction
People have are from bots?

A lot of people using this site have the mindset
If you dont follow me I wont follow you. It is quite
Common to have someone come along and like and follow
What you do. However if you do not reciprocate the like or follow on your
Song or your account, the follower or liker will unlike and
Unfollow you and your song.

This immature tit for tat behaviour did not
Emerge until the Gen Z's in there bedrooms saved enough money
From their burger flipping jobs to buy a korg volca
And were old enough to use the site.

In the short time of two weeks I am already onto my second account
As the first was spammed hard. I did figure out the spamming was
More active on the weekends so I will avoid posting anything then,
If at all any more.

Within 30 seconds of me uploading a song someone (a bot)
Left a comment at 2:30 telling me the vocals and lyrics
Were unique. They are unique, in that my work doesn't have any lyrics!

There is one truly amazing feature with soundcloud,
The ability to like a song with out listening to a single
Second of it and like it more than once, if your a bot

Just for a laugh I uploaded 3 minutes of pink noise,
It was immediatly liked and reposted with 3 plays in the space of 5 minutes.

Sound cloud has the audacity to charge up to $15usd a month
For a "pro" account, for a site which hasn't had much of a face lift
In 8 years. Notifications which have been read, are still marked
As unread days later, this bug has been sitting there for years.
I wouldnt pay $5 for this mess!

In my opinion Soundcloud is dead and
Needs to be or should be renamed to SpamCloud.

Tip for consumers:

Find somewhere else.

Products used:

the free account, who in there right mind would pay for a service like this?

Paywall cloud
July 13, 2020

Where the hell do I begin with this god awful service. I've been using SoundCloud for 5 years and in my experience it's been such a $#*!ty ride. I've owned multiple accounts each amassing over 1k in followers. Dealing with its god awful service for this long has taken quite a toll me.

Let's start off with the platforms main function.

Uploading, god is it terrible. Uploading music on SoundCloud is free at first glance. However, for artist that plan on building their foundation upon this platform it's a $#*!ty trap to keep artists who do garner an audience in to pay for the pro unlimited service that they offer once you exceed your upload quota. Even so, track upload quality is terrible. For years SoundCloud has had this issue. Audio quality is always processed to sound like it was rendered in 96khz. Sometimes, tracks will even get stuck processing for an indefinite amount of time. All this for $10 a month. I should even mention they had a cheaper plan at one point for pro, but as of late they have been quietly and gradually removing it. Nothing short of SoundCloud's business ethic.

SoundCloud support. This has to be the worst support to ever grace the internet, and quite possible be the most terrible support ever. With a Twitter account that has amassed over 45k followers, it has been running off of bot and automated responses for as long as anyone can remember. The support ticket system is utterly useless, as 99% of a time a bot is sent to automate responses to your questions. This applies to all support queries, including legal disputes! Hell, if someone falsely claims your song with no grounds to do so, SoundCloud won't do $#*! and will instead tell you to $#*! off and DM that person yourself to ask SoundCloud to remove it. With an almost non existent staff to help support their customers, you have to wonder where all of this pro money is going.

Bots, and the absolute worst case of them yet. Any song you upload, whether it be an old account or a new account you just made, upload one song and within a minute you can bet to see 1-5 bots liking or commenting on your track telling you about their website that allows you to grow faster as an artist on Soundcloud. These bots have been running rampant on SoundCloud for as long as anyone can remember, and there is no end to the variation and spam they produce.

Conclusion, SoundCloud is a god awful terrible platform. It's very unfortunate that a lot of artist that use this platform are chained to it as there are not many other alternatives that are as popular or familiar. With the amount of users still supporting SoundCloud, I don't see them listening to the problems so many of their users actually have, as SoundCloud is infamous for not even paying attention to their community one bit.

TL; dr don't use

An amazing website, could do more for artists! Way More!
May 25, 2019

Can't complain to much, I'm a bit of a soundcloud addict but they have failed artists a bit, and what's with the volatile pricing!?

They have some good initiatives like Soundcloud Go+ for students. That's a positive.

The negative is that Souncloud premier/montization is some kind of cruel joke for most folk.

I am one, I took the leap of faith when I heard that I could release tracks directly on soundcloud - It's right there in the subscription page (at the time of writing)

And then guess what, when I have a track I wan't to release and navigate to that option I get a page saying that I am not eligible but to keep building up my soundcloud - It took a a bit of working out as I fit all of the criteria but essentially a large part of my gigs and following is in south east asia, Bali, Thailand etc. and apparantly these plays don't count

So anyway that's another $130 or whatever just for a star by the name.

I can't be to critical because I am always on soundcloud scoping out music, it's one of my favourite apps - Prices have gone up though.

When I first signed up a pro account was a few dollars a month and you could add go or go+ for not much more!

The price has quadrupled?(Citation needed) in just a few years.

Also I would like to talk about go - I bought Go+ Many times to hear tracks from my favourite artists only to learn that 'This track is not playable in you're country'!

I did a tour of the U. K and the Biggest pop star of the U. K was not allowed to be played in the UK even Robbie Williams and thats weird. I was living in Australia and could play some select tracks at Electric Lady Studios by Courtney Barnett but when I moved to Bali I couldn't play the tracks at a later date as they were 'Australia Only'

That's a werid situation. So that's what I have to say about Soundcloud Go & Go+ I just don't bother anymore because I don't wan't to be dissapointed to find that I can't stream the artist because of some territory block! It's a fundamental flaw to Go & Go+ no?

Anyway all said still love soundcloud, some of the best electronica to be found anywhere on this site, dripping with talent, hope soundcloud will rise to the challenge of supporting it's artists more - They pay for Pro and Pro Unlimited Accounts give them premier, monetization and other perks, forget stats and the 'spotlight' feature - let artists have the ability to re-arrange their tracks pro or free as a first and then add the features that people want for pro and unlimited.

Also the adverts are long and repeat. Sometimes I am signed out of my pro unlimited account for various reasons and hear the same advert 4-5 times in a row! The adverts are long and boring, I think about sending my links to people do they sometimes just get a long boring advert and don't bother listening to my music? It's something like 30 seconds (Which is excessive and ridiculous) and it plays before the track, don't know what the solution is but it sucks balls in it's current presentation.

Anyway 4* for now let's get it to 5*

Thankyou

Great service
December 20, 2016

As a musician, I love ways to promote my music. But first, let me tell you a little about myself.
I am a multi instrumentalist & songwriter. I play about 13 different instruments including guitar, bass, drums, keyboards/piano, ukulele, harmonica, cello, mandolin, didgeridoo, zither/harp, saxophone, percussion, sitar, & soon I will start to sing. I learned my first 2 instruments - guitar & keyboard - when I was 14. I have a back catalog of over 1,380+ original songs I made over the past 9 years. I have a degree in audio engineering & I used to work in a music shop. I currently go by the stage name "Everlasting Friday" although I have about 8 other musical side projects of I am the sole member of.
When I found out about soundcloud, I took advantage of it & it's reasonable pricing. Soundcloud allows me to connect my music with the world and that's why they are the first place I upload my songs when they are finished (and registered thru the federal copyright office). Reason why I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I've been using them since 2012 & I'm gonna be honest, there are flaws that have yet to be improved. In fact, some have worsened.
The most notable one is the overflow of spam. The minute I post a track onto soundcloud, I get at least 5 fake likes from fake promotion services & 3 fake comments saying "woooohaa Everlasting Friday! So we got your track & think it could do good in a music contest! Yada yada yada" They don't always say it like that. They have their little 4 week series where they say it in different ways. For a couple months they'll just comment saying "ubud?" like I'm supposed to understand. Other times they will just word the music contest thing differently for a little while. Concerned the next one will be them asking me to sniff their farts for followers. And the fact that is all happens in the first 3 minutes after posting a track concerns me & makes me think I'm being stalked. If I'm being stalked on Soundcloud then that kinda makes me wanna not use it anymore.
The other issues are minor & are not worth a mention. But I would like to suggest that maybe soundcloud allows for a backdrop option for pages. I don't mean like the cover photo. I mean the entire page, just have a backdrop - like Twitter used to have.
There should also be an built in option to watermark your tracks on there. Too many tracks get stolen nowadays on soundcloud. Maybe a reverse music search option on there can also help detect frauds.
All in all, I enjoy using soundcloud & will strive to make some huge gains to my fanbase 2017. Let's see what the future holds. :)

Tip for consumers:

Make sure you put tags in when you post a track! The more tags you have, the better. It will help other people find your music. Also if anyone asks you to join a music contest or "pay $ for X amount of followers" don't do it. It is a scam and there is little joy to it. Fans are supposed to pay for YOU. Also make sure you share your music around. Join music forums (KVR, AudioSex, etc) & share your stuff. You gotta be able to handle criticism cause some people are gonna tell you your music sucks.

SoundCloud.com rocks
August 28, 2016

This is the tip-tops, as far as I'm concerned. The ONLY thing i dislike is the fact that like EVERYTHING on SoundCloud is@ 128kbps, even the items you purchase from what I can see, as I have like never, EVER actually BOUGHT a music file with a bit rate of 128kbps (I mean, like would YOU...(!?)) Seriously though, would YOU part with YOUR hard-earned cash for music at THAT low a quality, especially knowing that like no self-respecting musician in the year of 2016 would submit/upload an audio file with the quality dumbed down to that level. Hell, even Amazon.com, ripoff that they are, only has the audacity to set the site-wide low bar@ 256kbps...!

I mean, i get it that you are doing good works by putting a whole LOTTA artist's stuff up online for free or very cheap, artists whose work, going through "normal channels", would never see the light of day, but audiophiles like myself do exist (you know, the ones who can tell the difference between 192kbps and. WAV or 320kbps files and sometimes even between 192kbps and 256kbps! And what with 4, 6, 8 and even 16 TB HDDs becoming more and more affordable, i try to get no lower than 256kbps unless it's like completely free or "donate what you feel is right".

Please, think about it, huh?
