If I could give them a zero rating I would. The dentists Dr. Eric Buck and others scammed a lot of patients out of multiple amount of dollars. Smiles Direct Club knew for a long time that their business was failing and that they would be shutting down their global operations immediately. They filed bankruptcy in September 2023 but still kept the practice running and let me make an appointment for the aligners November 2023 and then they shut down permanently in December. They should have never taken me on as a patient and take my money and I never received my aligners nor did they contact me to let me know they were shutting down I had to find out on the website. Smile direct are scammers and they did some fraudulent activity. They shouldn't have seen me as a new patient when they knew they where closing down. A red flag should have caught my attention the day I had my appointment when I walked into their up scale office out in Arlington Va and there where no patients in the office. They took my money but thy had already filed chapter 11. People beware of all those Facebook advertisements. Don't waste your money on this….its way too expensive and it does not work as advertised…by the way your retainer sat the end of the treatment is exactly an aligner so there is no difference on the piece of plastic you need to insert in your mouth all day long for the first weeks and expected to use for an entire six months! At the end of original treatment I ended up with a huge gap in my front teeth and they were still not straight. They sent me additional aligners for another few month no additional cost and I still ended up with the gap and unhappy with the overall results.
I have been using trays for over 2 years with no results. I've gone through three separate cycles. No results. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY.

Do not use this company - if you have one small thing wrong happen with your account or your aligners it takes weeks to get in touch with someone. They have no email service so you chat with an AI person who can not help. I have wasted so many hours on the phone and that message service with no resolution. I truly never leave reviews but this was ridiculous. I truly wasted 2k and it was so upsetting. They need to have an email service and real humans to talk to to help you.
They do not have real dentists.

I am 66 years old and just got told from Smile Direct Club that there is nothing else they can do to straighten my teeth. I have always wanted straight teeth so after raising my children, getting their teeth straight, I decided to look into mine. Smile Direct scanned my teeth, made a smile plan and assured me they could. In a nutshell, after several years of back and forth with them over the phone, wasting my time, money and literally lying to me, they have dismissed me like a plaque. My bottom teeth are still crowded and crooked. For them to except me as a customer, knowing all along they would not be able to full fill what I longed to have done, is so wrong and should be considered as scamming. To see all the complaints that have been launched against them, you would think something would have been done. No one, and I mean anyone should go through Smile Direct! Pay the extra to get the smile you want through an orthodontist. Two thousand dollars plus, years later and so much precious time wasted, here I am with nothing to show for it! Its time for Smile Directs pockets to get sewn shut. I am older, should have been wisier and could kick myself for being nieve in believing them. Don't you become a victim as well!
Not only the product did not work for my daughter but also they asked us to pay the full amount of $1850 at the time of treatment. They said that once they claim with insurance they will refund us back but they had never done it. Our insurance actually pay them $825 and so the total is $ 2,675.
This is the worst company I have ever encountered.
This is my first ever negative review I've ever written, so that tells you how detestable this company's actions were against me. I first got my aligners 7 years ago and I have had nothing but absolutely horrendous dealings with the customer service. Orders placed and not received, no communication, no responses, no desire to make errors right, teeth shifting because my aligners or retainers weren't sent when promised. Notes were rarely left on my account when I contacted customer service, so no one knew what was going on. I wasted countless hours and money, all for my teeth to have now shifted back to where they originally were. To their customer service, left is right and up is down. There is no reasoning with them and they will not uphold their side of the "lifetime smile guarantee". I am happy to finally be free of dealing with their incompetence and I have made an appointment with a real dentist. I am hoping this review helps people not make the same mistake that I did.
I am on my last set of allingers, my teeth are no where near complete, I asked for a touch up
They were unethically tried to push me to purchase my retainer, my last set is cracked, I eventually got a touch up after getting the run around, the advisor told me to continue wearing my last set until my replacement allingers arrive, which will take up to 4 weeks. They DO NOT CARE about the customer only the MONEY! DO NOT USE THEM!
In addition I had to wait over 1 hour on the phone with customer service.
I am on my fourth touch up set and my teeth still aren't straight. Customer service is terrible with Smile Direct. You can never get in touch with them. The chat feature is a joke. Save your money!
Avoid this company at all cost. Despite lawsuit, they still engaged in unfair practices. They auto-renew shipment of aligners without the customer's knowledge. Calling customer service will only bluntly inform customers that NO REFUND for all retainers, contradicting their refund policy. There's no option either in the member's account to cancel subscription, or cancel an order. I was notified for a charge, and there's no order reflecting on my account. There's not even an option to update my contact information, cancel my order, request a refund, and cancel subscription. Basically, no option on the customer's end to modify any of the information. I have to call customer service and waiting and will be disconnected in the middle of the call without resolution even information from the representative. I have been with SDC since 2017 and this is the first time happened to me. Last year, I was called by a representative to request permission for a retainer order. There's even an email giving me information about a promo and notifying me to place an order for my retainer since "I am due". I guess, when customers refuse to order new retainers, they will force customers to have a new one, with NO REFUND POLICY and use "subscription" even though this is not true. You can't even post a review on BBB- and tis is weird!
I paid my full amount and received the first set of molds. Returned unused and am unable to get a refund. It is so frustrating dealing with them. I guess I've lost my money.
Straightening does not work. Issues have never been resolved, Support continues have issue and push you away. 1 week, then 2 week, so on and on.
My teeth are fine, i did not need much work, but i am incredibly annoyed and frustrated with the company and the way that they bother me to "sign up" almost daily. They have sent my retainers to the wrong home numerous times and are simply unreliable. The company's customer service is incredibly poor and i find it so funny that the reviews on the website say 5 stars.
I ordered the teeth whitening kit, and after a few uses the light stopped working. I called to get a replacement and they refused to send one. I attempted at being a "Karen" and asked for a manager, then I was told there is no one else to speak to and I'm out of luck (so that customer service rep was the CEO?). So their equipment doesn't hold up for even a single WEEK, they refuse to replace it, and customer service lies to you.
Visited the smile shop in Towson. Very hard to find and no waiting room. Had to open several sliding barn type doors to find someone to see if we were even in the right spot. Very unorganized and unprofessional. Saw the young lady for the scan. That went well, but then asked me to sign saying they can deduct 250 from my account in 3 business days if my son was approved. No mention of this prior and she was very pushy. Waited over 4 business days when they said only 72 hrs till we got a reply if he was accepted. No email. I had to call the 1800 number only to be told to check my spam. No future smile picture as promised just a note saying try again in 12 months. Ridiculous going back to orthodontist office.
There have been many issues with Smile Direct. First, I was quoted a 4 month treatment but had it extended 3 separate times so that I was in treatment for over a year. Very misleading.
During my treatment, there were several auto charges that took a lot of effort to change with customer service. After asking for supervisors to call me back, I never received call backs and had to reach out again myself.
Now my smile guarantee (one of the main reasons I chose SD) is void because I am 2 days late on ordering. I understand this can be voided but when I called for clarification, the rep just kept telling me that they could not make any promises that the guarantee would be upheld. Basically insinuating that if I ordered, there is potential. This is clearly false and just using this language to get me to order again.
I would absolutely not recommend Smile Direct, while it may be cheaper, you will pay for it in headaches.
So, I am now on my second set of aligners because the first didn't do the job. I specifically asked for the nighttime aligners this go round because wearing them 22 hours a day is horrible. I mean, few hours of drinks with friends? Forget it. Hungry but already had them out 2 hours? Sorry for ya, nothi.g but water. It sucks. Anyway, the gal said SURE! We can get you nighttime aligners. They came, and say 22hrs a day. Come to find out I'm not a candidate for the others but the gal didn't bother to tell me that. O, and the "smile team" you have 24/7 access to? They are poorly trained people sitting in a foreign country somewhere that barely speak English. Good luck understanding them...
After a month and a half even though "we will get back with you between 3-5 days" they are fixing my smile for a small fee. Turns out guarantied for life will cost you. Didnt realize. $300. I originally pd 2000. Now were at 2300. Invisalign cost 2100. Do yourself a favor and go with them. Maybe their guarantied for life wont cost you.
I wasnt going to say anything but I am very disappointed in the aligners. While they somewhat fixed my front tooth it brought all my teeth out further. I cant bite into anything now! I cant bite into pizza, sandwiches any kind of bread. I eat everything with a fork! The aligners reshaped the way my mouth looks if that makes sense. I dont even recognize myself in the mirror. I wish we were still wearing mask so no one could see. Will not recommend you guys to anyone.

Answer: On 2 occasions I've tried to call customer service and been on hold for over 30 minutes and the recording always says the wait time is exactly 30 minutes. They have that option to have them call you back, I tried that and never got a call back. I tried putting in a support ticket and never got a response. I've replied to emails that try to get me to take the next step and have never gotten a response. I've decided against doing further business with them.
