This was my first order with Sky Geek, and, to be honest, I was skeptical enough because of the company's name. When my customers are Rockwell and Boeing, having a company name like Sky Geek sent up a few red flags. Unfortunately, I was in a position where I didn't have much choice and had to place an order for a specific, OEM-mandated product that was out of stock almost everywhere else.

To be fair, the price was great. I have no complaints about that. My issues were with the appalling lack of communication and abundance of preventable errors.

When I placed the order, the website offered overnight shipping. It should have caught my attention, but because I was in a tight spot, I didn't question it. I placed the order on Friday, knowing that it may take a day or two for it to ship. I hadn't heard anything by Tuesday, so I shot off a quick email. The answer was that it would ship that day or the next and that I should expect it Wednesday or Thursday.

On Wednesday, I noticed the order status had changed and that it would be shipping out on Thursday via ground. Unhappily, I called to get it cleared up. The grouchy CSR informed me, with a tone that I would never use with my customers, that there was an error and that it could not be shipped overnight because of the nature of the product. It would be shipped ground on Thursday.

I asked if they could get it out the door that day, since it was originally promised to ship that day anyway, and they obliged. They also refunded the difference in shipping costs and promised that it would arrive on Friday.

I got no confirmation that anything had shipped until late Wednesday when the order status website updated with the tracking number. When I went to track the package, there was no expected delivery date. Figuring that this is the sort of thing that happens when you ship something halfway across a continent, I gave it a day to sort itself out.

There was still no update to the tracking page on Thursday, so I called UPS for clarification. I realize that I'm being a bit high maintenance, but I'm already dealing with a new supplier who has thrown me for a few loops. On top of that, I've got my own customers that are waiting on this product to arrive, accounts that are worth seven figures to my bottom line. UPS informed me that I would get the package at some point on Monday, not Friday like Sky Geek promised.

I don't anticipate dealing with SG again, in no small part because I can't work with a company that isn't reliable or predictable. I can deal with rude, if there are other trade-offs that make it worth it. This was a bad experience with delays, poor service, rude company reps, and awful communication. Had I not been put in a position where I needed the product immediately and my current suppliers couldn't come through, I wouldn't have heard of them or given them a chance. Unfortunately, they didn't make good use of that opportunity, and I'll be keeping my business with my existing suppliers.

I didn't get the best price for the seat belt extender that I needed (for securing an ice chest in the back seat of a 1982 Cessna Skylane), but at least they had it in stock, even though it's considered "obsolete". Their competitor sells the same thing for $20 less.
