“SAVE YOUR MONEY: Swimming at Morrison's Quarry - Chelsea, Quebec”

Toby G.
7/17/18

I wanted to go to this so-called "hidden gem" on a scorching hot day (35°C plus day) to go swimming. It is a quarry with cold, clean, fresh water. The prices just increased from $5 (CDN) to $10 (CDN) per person on July 1,2018. But, you don't know that until you get there. The pictures to advertise the swimming hole looked beautiful with the quarry in the background. The problem is that most of the quarry is not used for swimming, but for bungee jumping (Great Canadian Bungee Company) and scuba diving (Sharky scuba). The swimming area is roped off and small. The people who collect the money for the swimming area are raking in the money, and it looks like they live in the building (a small cottage). There are many picnic tables, but very few areas to put down blankets or your towels to sit in the sun. Some free spots are unusable because you would be in the area where people walk back and forth to the water. I couldn't see any garbage cans around, so people would leave their garbage anywhere instead of taking it home with them. Of course, being a really hot day, it was packed. Horrible. It was like a crowded outdoor swimming pool, but the pool would have been better with more space and cheaper. A group had their music (rap, reggae) blaring like it was being projected on loud speakers. Not a good experience. I am glad that I went to see what it was all about, but I will not be back. Very disappointing.
