This company in Florida turned up to fix a fault on the central air system. They were charging only $40 for the call out - which I thought was reasonable - but I should have wondered why.
The answer came when the fix was identified. $40 for call out, $100 for diagnosis and $610 for parts that are available on Amazon for about $40. Obviously that's where they make their money, when you are at your most vulnerable having waited for them to turn up, and finally offering a fix. Take it or leave it they say.
