RIGHTIO-BE WARNED!
January 11, 2022

This company charged me over £140 in early 2020 for a 5 minute incorrect plumbing diagnosis with no remedial work being done. Attempts to get redress failed. Trading Standards showed little interest but sympathised and admitted they were fully aware of this company's behaviour, yet they did nothing! Rightio as an emergency homecare company rely entirely on new unsuspecting customers and no-one in their right mind would use them twice. I believe they clearly post countless fake positive reviews. Have a look at Trustpilot which is obviously full of fake positive glowing reviews. They strive to remove as many negative reviews as possible. They never really attempt to assist people that they have defrauded, of course, even if there is what looks like a reasonable response to a negative review. They lied to me as they have lied to countless others about there being no call-out charge. They instead charge an automatic 'diagnostic fee' of £119 +VAT 20% PER HOUR, even if this is a 3-5 minute guess, and even if it is completely wrong! So there IS a call-out charge but it has a different name!. You will NEVER get a refund for an incorrect diagnosis however hard you protest and even if it costs you more to correct. Access to their 'Customer Excellence' service (!) is regularly deliberately blocked if you use the same mobile. Use a different one and you will be answered almost immediately,
Their trap is set by posting, or arranging for someone else to post, fake positive reviews everywhere they can, very often giving the 'engineers' first name ( who in reality does that for goodness sake?) and praising them obsequiously to the stars. Most of the workmen they contract out and send to peoples' homes are untrained and certainly unskilled labourers. They are often, but not always, dishonest and will fiddle about for the first hour, chatting jovially with their victim and then declaring that they are not upto the job or it needs spare parts or tools which they never seem to carry with them and by now they have gone into the next hour. Even 5 minutes incursion will double the fee taken. Surely this is theft? Money is taken from one's account before the job is signed off and without notification, and receipts are thinly informative, often inaccurate of the job description and usually received late. I like others foolishly gave my credit card number fully believing Rightio to be an honest company after reading their glowing website. They refer those who refuse to pay their fraudulent fees to Debt Recovery companies with no hesitation and can be really quite threatening, so it is reasonable to say that extortion is a tool they are happy to use.
Fake reviews are evidently common on Trustpilot which I believe is complicit in allowing them to stand, despite it's denials and unjustified faith in it's anti-fraud software.
Have a look at RIGHTIO'S website where they publish 'Review.io'. Here you will find a score of 4.72 / 5 at the time of writing, from 2327 reviews with 93% satisfaction, literally unbelievably good for any company. Interestingly there are ZERO reviews at all of 4 stars or less on their homepage. The last time a 4 star review was posted was 3 years ago. The last 3 star review 4 years ago, the last 2 star review 3 years ago and the last 1 star review 3 years ago. So ALL their published reviews in the last 3 years on their website have been 5 star rated. Quite an accomplishment? Do you really swallow this? I don't think so!
Have a proper look at the Trustpilot review site for Rightio. On the homepage to the right click on 'See a detailed overview'. The scores Rightio get can be broken down into overall reviews, invited reviews and organic-(uninvited or spontaneously written) reviews. There is a staggering difference between invited reviews and Organic reviews. Invited reviews are overwhelmingly positive 84% and only 2% negative. Organic reviews, in my opinion more likely to be genuine as they come from the heart and are usually much fuller with a coherent story, score only 6% positive and are overwhelmingly negative at 86%. The incredible difference at this scale can ONLY be due to manipulation by Rightio with fake reviewing and unjustified flagging and fraudulent removal of critical reviews.
Trading Standards are fully aware of this company's methods, but they seem to think themselves powerless and Rightio uses this situation to its advantage.
A formal complaint to the Dept of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) who has control over Trading Standards was lazily and irresponsibly referred back to Trading Standards, even failing to acknowledge my letter. Trading Standards once again gushed with sympathy and assured me they were 'watching' the company, implying something would happen to call them to account in due course. That was nearly a year ago and nothing has happened.
Action Fraud sympathised and offered me a figurative hankerchief, but then did nothing. Even the BBC watchdog program were not interested. All of this inaction by those responsible has further emboldened Rightio in its abhorrent activities. They feel Teflon coated, and it would seem they are right!
Rightio was hit hard in the last 3 years presumably by Covid, and they recently declared voluntary insolvency and then resurrected themselves as a 'different' phoenix company by officially registering as Rightio Subcontractor Ltd. The Website looks the same, the name Rightio is unchanged and the way it behaves is no better. In effect it remains the same company except it seems to be absolved of any debt.
All of the above facts are within the public domain.
How times have changed! A company behaving like this 20-30 yrs ago would have been taken to the cleaners with prosecutions. Rightio is a stain on Birmigham's good name-it is based here and is not a local trader. It is a national disgrace and the authorities responsible for allowing to trade are also a disgrace. Some poor folk -usually the elderly and vulnerable and those with no voice have been defrauded of thousands of pounds.
My main reason for writing this 100% honest review is to warn others to AVOID RIGHTIO LIKE THE PLAGUE IT IS.

Tip for consumers:

Avoid Rightio at all costs

Don't use this company
December 22, 2018

My boiler was broken last weekend. I checked it myself and found it was the hot water pump failed to work. The water tank was hot, but the hot water couldn't get out. Called Rightio at 8:30am on Tuesday, explained the detailed problem. They said they can arrange a plumber for me, but need to take my credit card details for a £129 call out fee, but promise it should be done quickly, they won't charge me until the engineer done the job and I am happy with it. Then I got a phone call from local plumber after one hour, saying they booked a plumber between 12pm to 4pm for me. I told them to call me half hour before the arrival so I can prepare everything to be ready. I asked half day off the work and stayed at home waiting for the plumber. Nobody turned up till 3:30pm, so I called them, they said the plumber got delay and would come at 5pm. Still nobody turned up and there was no notice until 6pm. I was disappointed and tried to contact them, but nobody answer the phone. I was wondering if anybody would come, and wanted to cancel the appointment, but didn't know how. Then 6:50pm someone called me said he just entered the front gate. I was pretty sure it was too late and the plumber won't do anything on that day, but hoping he could do a proper check on the day and fix the boiler quickly before Christmas. So I went out to pick him. He even didn't bring any tool to check as I opened the front panel of the boiler to explain everything for him. He just agreed with me the pump is broken but just said there is no time to repair, I had to wait him to come back to work after Christmas (10 days later) to buy the replacement. I was really unhappy, because he wasted me half day waiting without work, but also wasted my time to find another plumber. I told him I would find someone else. Then he just left around 7:15pm, stayed at my home for less than 20mins. I didn't sign anything time sheet or form to say his job has done. Today I got a call from the company to pay the fee. I just refused to pay them, and I report my card is stolen and lost. Hope they won't take the money from me.

So don't use this company, you don't know who they will find for you. Their charge is extremely expensive. £129 for a 3 hour delayed 20mins talk with a plumber. No checking, no repairing.

Worst company ever, driven by money
August 22, 2017

By far the worst company I have had the displeasure of dealing with - DO NOT USE.

After calling at 5pm on a Sunday to get an emergency plumber out to fix burst pipes under the floor in the flat above - I was told that they couldn't send someone until the next day between 9am and 11am. By 11.15am the next day I hadn't heard from the company and called to find out what was happening. I was told they were trying to get hold of the landlord to take the payment details - despite not even doing a job yet. They refused to send anyone out until they had the payment details in their system.
So 12pm came and went and our landlord had unhelpfully told the company they wouldn't be paying for more than hour (not Rightio's fault I know) but this was because this company have extortionate call out fees (£119 a hour, before parts) and then I was told that the next engineer couldn't come out until 5-7pm.

I told them that the job would take longer than an hour and that there wasn't any point in sending anyone. They assured me that the engineer would come and see what he could do in 1 hour. So the engineer arrived and took one look at the floor and said it was going to take up to 8 hours to do the work and he couldn't do anything because he only had 1 hour. He even rang up Rightio to complain that they had sent him out to a job that would take longer than 1 hour - this is despite me telling them this 6 hours earlier. To make matters worse, after I spoke to the company in the evening to complain about the situation - I then get a call first thing in the morning from Rightio - saying they were not going to charge me for the call out - the call out were nothing happened. How dare they have the audacity to call me up saying they won't charge me, despite them making a monumental mistake and wasting everyone's time.
This whole company is driven by money, they are greedy and have no customer value or service. They wasted 24hrs of our time, when we could of found someone else to do the job sooner, instead they left the single mum in the flat above us, who has 2 small children without any water for a 3rd day.
The lack of communication within this company is horrendous.
I have also put in an official complaint - where I was then told that the company could of invoiced the landlord, rather than chasing them for card details. Which I was never informed of at the start.

Since trying to use this horrendous company, I have found a really lovely local plumber, who has been nothing but helpful, friendly, reliable and is not driven by money - perhaps your company could learn something from him.

Needless to say I will be encouraging anyone I know to avoid using you.

Tip for consumers:

Do not use them.

Real Scanmer Coy
July 23, 2017

I could have given ---0 rating if there was an option. I wish I had read reviews here before I call this idiot company.

Story here:
I called them for fixing my toilet not flushing early in the morning around 9am. They talked very nicely, assured that it will be fixed within an hour, took bank details for payment and arranged an appointment 1pm-4pm. I waited whole afternoon expecting so called their engineer. But I received a call around 3:15 pm that their engineer is so busy and could not turn up that day. They say it will be next day early in the morning as the first priority 8am-9am. I took second day off from my job to do the job. Again waited and received a call that morning engineer has stuck in traffic and getting late. Lastly so called engineer knocked the door at 10:08am after more than 2hrs late.

The Job:
It was prity simple, if I had the part I could have done easily. He was not fully compitent to the the job. As I had mentioned flush system is not working, he could have brought the part as he might need, he had a look and went to market to purchase it. The funny thing is he even didn't know which side he would put the stopper. Very unprofessional, took 2hrs to fix the 20mins job.

The Charge:
They had assured the job will be done well under an hour and their fixed, no hidden charge is £99 plus vat. I had calculated max £150 including the parts. But it shocked me when he produced the recript.
Material costs £38 and labour charge plus vat all together £283.20. Could you believe that?

Simply this company is a big scammer, once they hook you then your money is gone. I could have changed x3 new toilets with the price. My 2 days work and money wasted.
Readers please don't use those companies who you can find on internet. Best suggestion use local plumbers unless you are rich and want give your money away.

Rightio Are Scam Artists

Rightio Are Scam Artists

Short story: RIGHTIO charged me £118.80 to send out a plumber for 10 minutes... who misdiagnosed my problem. When I contacted them for a refund, everything went quiet.

Long story: I identified that the stopcock in my house was leaking so called RIGHTIO plumbing service. I explained that I need someone to fix this minor leak, I was told over the phone that I would need to call the water board to send someone out to identify what exterior stopcock belongs to my property and arranged a plumber to come out to fix the problem.

On 03/11/2016 one of RIGHTIO's plumbers came to my house to look at the leak, he advised that he couldnt simply replace the stopcock as the part is no longer in production so would need to fit a different size and replace a pipe, he couldnt do the job their and then because he never had a stopcock key to switch of the exterior water supply nor did he have the required materials to do the job so he arranged to come out on 04/11/2016 to complete the job.

On 04/11/2016 I got a phone call telling me Id need to remove a part of the floor to give the plumber access! This wasnt previously mentioned by anyone. I recently just fitted new flooring in the kitchen costing £870 that wasnt designed to be lifted so I wasnt happy to do this unless it was necessary. I called another plumber for a second opinion as I didnt want to waste money on replacing a section of my floor as lifting it would cause damage to the wood.

The other plumber came to my house on 05/11/2016 to take a look at the issue, he quickly identified that the stopcock could be repaired and removed the packing gland, changed it and sealed the thread. This instantly fixed my problem and took only 15 minutes to fix without even switching off the external water supply, removing the floor or fitting a new pipe and stopcock. The other plumber was critical of the suggestion made by your plumber saying Its totally unnecessary. Further more I saw that replacement 3/4 stopcocks can still be bought online despite what your plumber told me, granted they arent as common but I was told these arent available.

I called RIGHTIO staff on 07/11/2016 and explained that I do not feel its fair to charge me £118.80 for 10 minutes of misdiagnosis from one of your plumbers, I had to call the water board, take time off work to meet with a man from the water board who was also critical about your business practice as he said most plumbers are capable of identifying and turning off the external water supply themselves.

RIGHTIO ignored any emails of phone calls regarding a refund, they take your payment details before a job is completed. That alone tells you that RIGHTIO cannot be trusted. Regardless, I'm working with my large social media fan-base to make RIGHTIO pay. I'll make sure trading standards and every trade review site knows about this. RIGHTIO should have just given me my £118.80, now it's going to cost them four figures in bad publicity. I'm truly happy with my contribution to RIGHTIO's demise.
