Restoro / Re-Image is scamware and fearware.
November 8, 2022

Do a simple google search before purchasing this product. You can safely ignore the shameless IT sites paid to reccomend this as any IT expert will tell you to avoid at all costs. Restoro is not free but will scan your PC and tell you all the imaginary problems your PC has. Why it even finds missing system files not because they are missing but a simple 64 bit systernals scan show they were just hidden to this junk software scanning 32 bit right? After you get a list of false reported problems, viruses, etc you may purchase the software but get ready. This is where it starts. Your serial key will be accepted then it will stop working and promt you to contact them. This is where they try to convince you that you need a service contract. They are relentless and if you purchased with your credit card better check your charges. There are countless horror stories but I got to see first hand trying to help a co worker ditch these guys. As an IT expert I was able to easily find a simple driver issue no more however they had hagled there way down to a one time crazy fee to fix this supposed virus, malware, corrupted PC (Yes this is on top of the purchase software price because remember it doesn't actually fix anything). And suprise this is a recurring charge right. Don't believe a word from these guys. They will be logged into your pc remotely and I got to watch these clowns running scans with free apps like systernals trying to list these serious issues but as 15 year vet with a computer science degree this was just disgusting to see the bs, some folks may not know better. See what Microsoft Techs, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes and countless other reputable companies have to say. Scamware / fearware. Sadly this is the new landscape of online tech support sites especially when they are paid so handsomly or subsidiaries of this behemoth. I wonder why the billionaire owner went to prison.

Deceptive practices NOT to be trusted
October 13, 2022

Was having an issue with microsoft photo app not saving edits. Frustrated, somehow ended up attempting to download restoro. Unable to get license key until I called the 800 number. Call began poorly as getting the license key continued to be a problem but somehow I stuck with it. I was told my purchase included a free review of my laptop. Provided access and watched. My screen started to show alarming data - over 14,000 supposed Microsoft warnings and pages of malware and trojans listed. I fell for it somehow and agreed to a $300 contract - one of three options provided after the assistant had spent 5 minutes "talking to her manager" in regard to what they could do for me to address these issues and providing odd explanations against other remedies that I had not solicited. Referred to engineer with explanation that it will take him 2-4 hours to fix my laptop issues. He quickly solved my photo app problem when he had no problem editing and saving other of my photos. Problem was simply a glitch with the one photo I kept on trying to edit and save. I left him to address the "other issues". He called me in 45 minutes to say he was done. Asked me to check out my laptop looking for a sign-off on his work. My response- and the beginning of my doubts- was that I had no other issues with my laptop other than the photo app issue so was not sure what I could check out other than that the laptop was still working fine. We agreed to follow up the next morning at 8. Very quickly I began to realize that I had been deceived. I checked with two system managers from work and they did not understand where the data came from but stated clearly that if all of the info was accurate I would have been having lots of problems with my laptop. I wake up at 2 in the morning unable to get back to sleep due to this deception that had cost me $350. I get up and call the number provided. Talk with an engineer who asks for details when I tell him I want my money back. He puts me on hold for 5 minutes and returns to say a customer service operator will call me in 5-10 minutes. I'm exasperated. A call comes in with the label "potential spam". I answer and it is customer service who tried to happy talk me. It is the middle of the night and I have no patience and ask "Will I get a refund or not? Yes or No?" He hems and haws and I hang up. The next day after settling down I call again. Go through the same process but this time when asked "why do I want a refund" I went through all the details presented above. They offer to extend the contract. I say no, I simply want a refund. Assistant continued to be very courteous and finally says she can offer me $257 back (out of the $350 I had been charged). I push back. She holds. I tire and say I will accept the $257. She indicated I will get emails shortly detailing the refund. When I check back later the emails are there. The next day to my surprise I see that I have received a full refund for both the $50 initial charge for the download and the $300 service agreement! The powers to be must have reviewed the details of my conversation/complaint and decided to try to fully placate my complaints about their deceptive practices - hoping that I would be happy for the refund (I am!) and leave the issue in the rearview mirror. Oh well, half of their hope came true as now completed this warning regarding my experiences with this company. Still getting popups from them warning against more malware coming into my laptop. Head shaking experience and wondering how I could have fallen for their deception.

High pressure sales and false data presented-buyer beware.
September 28, 2022

This product has many red flags. I purchased this product to finish upgrading Windows 10 from Windows 8. There is a known issue when downloading Windows 10 that a message appears " Windows failed to install" and this occurs at 73% of the download. I had meticulously tried various solutions to finish the installation without success. The solutions included 1. Remove the peripheral devices, 2. Clear the attribute of $Windows.~BT installation folder, 3. Rebuild the boot configuration data, 4. Repair corrupted system files, and 5. Perform a clean boot and installation.

No solution worked so I tried Restoro. When you purchase Restoro, the buyer is suppose to call the activate the software. That was the first red flag and unnecessary in today's computing. I was able to install the product without calling the 800 number but the second red flag was that I received two different license keys. After installing the product, the scan identified 1700 fixes and this is not uncommon for this type of software. The next phase is to analyze the fixes but the product would not progress past 70%. Despite multiple attempts, I received the blue circle of death and was forced to call tech support.

The agent seemed surprised that I was able to activate the license key without first calling. The agent asked me about the issue and then began to ask if I had taken the computer in for regular "checkups and another red flag. I told him that it is not a standard practice to bring in computers to a computer store for regular checkups but he was attempting to build a case of why I needed Restoro's expensive repair service.

I allowed him to remote into my computer and at one point he had 9 various screens opened and was quote "identifying problems with the computer." Most surprising was the screened showing multiple trojans and then he tried to make a case that my computer was compromised with malware and it was not. (see the photo). I run ESET Premium security and this software is rated as one of the best.

During this time, he opened up Notepad and started listing all the issues (another red flag) and include over 57 trojans. What he actually did was pull up a screen shot from virustotal.com and tried to imply that these trojans and viruses were embedded on my computer. Most customers would be fearful of this discovery on their computer, but I know that he was giving my a bunch of BS and I know my computers are virus/trojan free. He insisted I needed to have the computer repaired and Restoro could provide this service immediately for about $600 for 3 years. Another red flag and I told him the price was outrageous. At the end of the conversation the price was down to $200.

I told the agent that if my computer did in fact have the trojans he flashed on the screen, then performing a clean boot installation would take care of the problem, but he insisted that the trojans could be damaging my system trying to play on human fear again.

I told him I would take my computer to a local repair store and he asked why. I replied because I trusted the local store ( and at this point did not trust the agent or Restoro at all).

After the conversation ended I ran Restoro a 4th time, but this time I manually removed the items and did not rely on the program, and then ran CCleaner to search for compromised registry files. After rebooting, I was finally able to download Windows 10 Pro and it is working great.

This morning, I took my computer to the local store and had him run his software for trojans and viruses and unsurprisingly, my computer was virus/trojan free. This company is not trustworthy and to the unsuspecting customer, the agents will produce false screen shots about non-existent trojans in order to urge the customer to spend $600.

The biggest mistake i ever made
September 12, 2022

Restoro software alerted me that I had issues on my computer and that I needed to buy the software in order to have issues resolved. The cost was $42.00. Then after purchasing software and trying to cleanup the issues that the restoro program was alerting me on, I was directed by program to contact customer support at 800 number. When I spoke to customer support, there were others that could heard in the background talking to other customers, the person I was spoke with didn't speak the English language very well and neither did the people I could in the background. I should have stuck to my instincts but I was trying to be a better human being and not so critical about little things. As I was reading him the errors the program was alerting me on, the support person began telling me that my problem was extremely serious and that backline support was going to be needed. My fear of my personal information (financial, medical, and other personal data) getting hacked grew. When they came back on the phone line, I was told the backline support personal would cost $600 dollars to remote in to diagnose and resolve the issue. I immediately said no. Still concerned about the issue on my computer and having them yapping at me about how serious this problem was, they said that they would do it for 300 dollars. He asked me if he could use the same credit card that I used to pay the $42 subscription for and the backline support guy was ready to remote in to fix this issue. My nerves got the best of me and I feel for their prank. My recommendation is DO NOT PAY THIS COMPANY ANY MONEY TO RESOVLE OR RESTORE ANY COMPUTER RELATED PROBLEM. As they have posted on their web page that they are Microsoft approved which is not the case. See Microsoft official answer at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/is-restoro-a-safe-website/33a40afd-74ed-4e9d-b57e-201e65cda0ad
These people are actors trying to make you think your computer is in need of repairs but only so that they can configure backdoors entries into your devices and home network and to take your money.
Since I used Paypal for the transactions, these fake company attempted to make another charge one year later for another years subscription costs. I disputed the charge. They made off with some of my money but my hopes are that this post keeps others from losing their money and exposing who Restoro really is.

Ransomware Scam/Fraud
July 17, 2022

On Friday, July 6,2022 a Windows Update failed to successfully install on my Lenovo T480. I started experiencing 1 to 3-second delays every couple of hours through the day. Lenovo suggested that I update the display driver. It would not load.
A link to Restoro appeared, and I followed it, thinking it was a Lenovo solution. I downloaded the software and ran it. Suddenly they demanded $44.89 to actually perform the repair. The activation key that was sent to me via eMail did not work. I called the phone number provided.
[Note that, although their phone number is a United States number, they are actually located in the Philippines. Thick accents. Difficult to understand.]
The Restoro representative indicated that she would activate the software if I would give her remote access to my computer. Still thinking this was a legitimate service connected with Lenovo, I allowed it.
After about 30 minutes, the representative/technician wanted to install a VPN and anti-virus software, even though I already had both. Still thinking this was a legitimate service connected with Lenovo, I allowed it.
The "service" they provided was to disable all of my USB ports, disabled saving to my local drive, disabled System Settings, and blocked opening any applications. That remote session lasted 12+ hours, and I was handed off from one technician to another, with no communication between them. Each one started over.
Now Restoro demanded $641.99. This now had all the earmarks of a ransomware attack. They are now into me for a total of $686.88.
For the next 7 days, multiple technicians accessed my laptop, each one adding additional problems. They had remote connection to my laptop for over 35 hours during that week. Since they had disabled all of my USB ports, I was unable to back-up my critical data files. The computer was now crashing --- blue screen of death --- and automatically re-booting every 40 to 50 minutes…... even with nobody touching the keyboard. I am now the proud owner of a boat anchor.
On Friday, July 15,2022, I requested that they honor their "60-day money-back guarantee." After an hour of haggling (and being put on "hold" multiple times), they offered only a partial refund, since "some services had been provided."
I have yet to see a penny of my "partial refund."
I took my laptop to a local computer repair company. They fixed it in 48 minutes while I looked over their shoulder --- and charged me $60.00.
Restoro is a ransom-ware scam. They are a complete fraud. A bunch of thieves. Not only are they incompetent, inept, and disorganized, they cannot deliver what they advertise (and charge for), including their alleged "guarantee."

Tip for consumers:

Avoid at all cost! Ransomware fraud.

Shafted and destroyed Computer
June 9, 2022

I was optimistic when I contacted them to determine if my external 2T drive was broken. That's all I wanted to know. They felt I needed a diagnostic with my computer with the drive plugged in. It took three or four hours to attempt a scan and to find out that the drive was no good. So it looked like I was able to get my computer cleaned of some serious issues as well as being able to determine that my 2T drive was toast. I was able and very willing to give a super report because I was very satisfied when Ruel assured me that he was finished and had fixed all the errors. I didn't know until I was looking through the windows and the restore icon, bringing it up that the problems had not been completely fixed and that I needed to reboot the computer. That is typical but I thought he had already done that since he had completed everything. That's when the nightmare began. The computer turned off as expected but when it came back on it would not go past the blank screen. It was obvious it was on but could not finish whatever was lacking and so they lied. Or rather he lied. I trusted that he was providing an honorable service and he lied and now my computer is basically locked up from the gray screen. I attempted to contact the customer service number and they had me turn it off and on and off and on about 15 times to no avail. I was too unplug my computer for 30 minutes and they were to call me back and that never happened either so I called them and insisted that I'd be repaid the $127 plus a $30 and to cancel my subscription. I have not received a call back and will contact my credit card company to make sure this is not continued. Go ahead and have their service and render your computer totally worthless! I'm going to have to go into town and see if I can find a reputable computer person to expunge this damaging and worthless system from my computer. I don't want to restore factory settings because I have a lot of apps that I want to keep and information as well. But I would actually like a US citizen to review this. The Filipino people were fine as far as it goes I suppose except they did not deliver and I am absolutely outraged and I want others to know this so that they can avoid the abuse and fraud. Right now, they have destroyed my computer. Rendered it useless!

Tip for consumers:

DON'T. If you do, check to make sure it's completed.

Didn't Fix My Problem with Windows 10
April 30, 2022

First, lets talk about online ordering. As you fill out the order form and then if you decide not to buy a screen pops up offering you a 10% discount. This is a bit cheesy as I think they should just lower the price 10% for everyone from the start. OK, after running the debit card, the download is simple and straight forward. You get a key that activates the downloaded "trial version".

My issue was that Windows 10 Update would error out with code 0x*******c1. This resulted in failing to get any updates. I tried many of the Microsoft "fixes" to no avail. I read a lot of reviews on Restoro and even read one that said it would fix the update problem. So, I decided to buy it (with the 10% discount).

I ran Restoro and it did NOT fix the Win 10 Update issue. I ran it again with the same result. So, unless Restoro fixed some other issues that were not giving me any grief anyway, I'll have to say it was a waste of money. I read their return policy and it was so troublesome that I figured it wasn't worth all the headache to get my $37 back. My opinion is save your money and don't buy Restoro!

Update 5/3/2022: Well, I tried Restoro one more time with no fix. I decided to try the "refund" process they offer for 60 days. The only thing I received was an automated response saying they would get back to me... NOT. The refund process is so cumbersome that by all the time you wasted trying to utilize it, you almost want to pay them to be done with it. I might as well have thrown $37 out the car window.
Solution: I used a program I already had called AOMEI Backupper and cloned the operating system from an older disk drive to the SSD drive that was corrupted.

Final thoughts: This program was a complete waste of money for me. From questionable purchasing practice (10% discount hook) to their 60 day refund policy (almost impossible to complete in any sort of timely manner), all you end up with is a waste of your time and the same problem you had to begin with.

Update 5/4/2022: I will upgrade my review on Restoros customer service. After filing a complaint ticket with them, I received an email saying they will refund my purchase price. It is, however, interesting how the money is almost instantly taken from your account at time of purchase but the refund can take up to two billing cycles to be replaced. Oh well, thanks for the refund!

Tip for consumers:

Save your money on this waste of time program.

Way to much cost, little to no value!
April 19, 2022

Somehow my Nero software had a scoring icon (or something like that) I clicked on it and it routed me to Restoro, my computer had been running poorly so I figured it was a relative inexpensive way to have "a pro" check it out & fix it. It wasn't until I paid for that when my very courteous & aggressive CSR, told me I would need to push thru to a higher level rep who would sign into my computer (with me watching) & begin to evaluate the situation. It took that rep many hours to make the necessary fixes to improve performance & speed. I didn't have time to sit & watch all that the rep did or didn't do, but I stayed close by & checked what was being done, mind you, without my really knowing if what that rep was doing was fixing my problems or creating more. When that rep was finally done, I was told to see if it was performing better & I'd receive a phone call the next afternoon to follow up. Well they finished so late, I had to go to bed. I am currently fighting cancer & couldn't stay on my computer any longer that night. The next day I had a chemo treatment, so I wasn't home, although a rep did reach out. But I wasn't able to sign into my computer for several days due to my illness, and when I finally did, there was no noticable improvements, in fact it has been running worse than before I made this financial & timely mistake by assuming whoever would be fixing it would be able to make the required changes & I'd be better off. My fault for assuming. So my computer is running worse than ever. I'm out several hundreds of dollars, that I would have never let myself been a party to a feeling of falling victim to a scam & I felt that 1st rep who aggressively talked me into leveling up took advantage of my illness to make her quota or whatever she was required to achieve. If it was to take advantage of me while I was mentally & physically impaired, then bravo, she found a sucker that day in me. She made it clear that there were no refunds & the "deal" she claimed to give me was her employee discount, as though she was doing me a solid. Any other day or in my right mind, I would have never even began the entire ordeal. I consider myself an above average computer user & I feel humiliated & embarrassed that I fell victim to what clearly isn't what it claimed to be, lesson learned. I had told her my health issues and I feel that was where I began falling prey to her aggressive sales techniques and frankly although I haven't worked for nearly 2 years due to my own illness & covid, my very limited and tight budget was never considered, much like my health issues. I had given up to much info and before I knew it I had been out several hundreds of dollars & I was\am too ill to even attempt to let anyone back on my computer to what I assumed would be more hours of my limited time just to have my computer further messed up. I chose to move forward with a reputable company that was local & not in Puerto Rico, as she told me she was. If I had been in my usual healthy state of mind it never would have gone as far as I allowed it to. My bad for believing her sympathetic words would actually be helpful rather than making me feel like I was screwed over & scammed. Something I'm generally on top of, but clearly not that day. I am very angry that my only tool of info & limited work had caused me to allow myself to be taken advantage of, when I was at my most vunerable & clearly not in a situation to be scammed. Again lesson learned & the high cost to learn it just means less medical care and\or food on my table. Shame on the entire process that allowed someone in my stated condition to find myself in.
