I reserved a hotel in W. Africa from California where I reside. When I arrived a few days earlier (plan was to stay with family for the first few days), I decided to check on my reservation. I was shocked to learn there was absolutely no record of my rez. None. Zilch. Nada. Rien. Semmi. Quite irate, I decided to cancel online. I was given an option of either (1) accepting a 10% discount and my rez would be non-refundable, or (2) canceling and forfeiting a $19.99 fee. Option 1 was in larger print and in a brightly colored rectangular box (can't recall the color). Option 2 was underlined and in much smaller print beneath Option 1.
I pressed option 2 on my large screen phone. The screen froze. I powered off my phone and tried again. I got a message to the effect of "try again later." A short while later, I got the email in the attached photo misrepresenting that I accepted a discount and could no longer receive a discount. What? I was speechless!
I immediately called +1 *******201. I was told I could not cancel the rez b/c I accepted a discount. I told them I never accepted a discount and I had witnesses. Why would I accept a discount when the hotel had no record of my rez? Besides the hotel was crappy (2 stars at best -- no hand soap in the lobby restroom!).
The "customer service rep" hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to a manager. Rick (no last name) came on the line and after I'd ranted for almost 20 minutes, including letting them know I'd look into pursuing this legally (I don't like playing the lawyer card, but I felt scammed), Manager Rick said they would do me a "one time favor" and allow a refund which should show up in "5-7 days depending on the credit card." Rick also said I'd receive a refund email (email hasn't arrived over an hour later). I thanked Rick but couldn't resist retorting that there would never be an opportunity for a second time because I'll never again book on this site. I guarantee that.
Lesson learned. Buyer beware! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
