All trash services are NOT created equal! I don't intimidate easily but this company is a BULLY. I have used Republic Services for all of my business's for many years. In the past couple of years there service has gone from good to horrible. I understand that Covid and the many challenges our economy is facing are primarily responsible for the late pick-ups, no pick ups, and a myriad of broken promises. This affected every business and we all must learn to be more patient, however, that is no excuse for bullying customers for payment on services that were NOT received!
I have been receiving threatening letters, text, phone calls for over a year. This for services that I did not receive. I canceled services in August of LAST YEAR on one of my business's. I drove by the location 3 months after the cancelation and noticed the large roll-off was still full and had not been picked up. Out of courtesy, I alerted them. This started a year of incredibly frustrating and tumultuous communication as they threatened me to pay for a years worth of services even tough I was able to clearly demonstrate, via emails and verbal confirmations that I, in fact, did cancel the services. I have multiple emails and phone calls of all my correspondence with many of the AZ REP. Representatives. I would get a verbal confirmation on Tuesday that my account is clear only to get a threatening ROBO CALL on Wednesday telling me my account is past due and collections could occur (emails also)!
I could write another 5 pages but I am tired and beat up. I was finally able to get a sympathetic ear from a rep (Kenneth) and after months of trying to work with him I was able to reduce my bill done to $171. I don't owe this amount but much like Bullies who extort money through intimidation I paid it because I was worn out and tired of the harassments. Shame on you Republic Services. Had you taken the time to review all of my accounts I assure you that it would have made a lot more sense to make me happy considering the cost of customer acquisition. I WAS a very good customer. Further, you could have followed the trail and seen how horribly I was treated. I was in constant contact. I never ducked calls or emails, in fact I initiated most of them in efforts clarify your errors!
I implore all consumers. If you need any type of trash services, please do the research. Read the reviews! Republic Services is a big company who does not care about you or your business.
Hands down the absolute WORST company I have EVER dealt with for any product or service. After many years of what seemed to be fairly reliable service, this past spring, summer, and fall (2022), their residential pickup services became increasingly erratic. Rather than weekly pickup, they'd come every 2-3 weeks after repeatedly missing their promised make-up days. Of course, they still billed us the same quarterly amount. We finally called them to terminate service, and then we put the bin out, sealed it shut with rope, and taped 3 large signs on it saying that we terminated the service and wanted the bin removed. But they didn't come to pick up the bin; instead, their service truck periodically came to "empty" the sealed empty bin! (I guess their drivers can't read). We had to make 5 calls to the local number and another 5 calls to their headquarters number before anyone picked up the trash bin almost 1 month later. But in the meantime, charges appeared on our bill, which we again had to call to rectify. (Interestingly, everyone on the phone was nice and accommodating. The problem is that the actual service providers were totally incompetent and never followed through on the promises of the phone operators, who wisely clarified that the survey they wanted us to fill at the end was about the service that they, the phone operators, provided and not the trash collectors!) As if that wasn't frustrating enough, 6 weeks later, we got threatening emails that if we didn't pay the $19.50 we owed them (for what?), they'd send it to a collection agency! We made yet another call to be told that they will credit us the charge and that the threatening emails were from their automated system, which they would have corrected during their quarterly audit! Oh really, and would the collection agency know that after the fact? How about the credit-rating services that would have dinged us for this spurious charge? The topper is that we found another service that is not only reliable, but charges almost 1/6th the cost! That's right! The incredibly unreliable Republic national chain – with economies of scale – was charging us 5.7x what a local competitor is now charging us. And yes, we are kicking ourselves for having not comparison-shopped back when we first moved here.
I live in a multiunit building and they keep refusing to pickup our recycling for arbitrary reasons which leads to overflow and unsanitary environment! I've heard the recycling pickup guys throwing stuff around and making a mess (also swearing loudly while doing so) previously when they refused recycling pickup. And then when i go down there sure enough it's trashed with stuff scattered all around when it was much tidier before. Maybe they were upset because someone put something in the recycling they "shouldn't have," but the fact is in response they start throwing stuff around and then i guess blaming it on the residents. In other words they not only refuse pickup but they make a bigger mess than was there on top of it!
Now they are saying they won't pick up the recycling because there are some solid colored bags in there and now they claim they only pick up recycling with clear bags. I've never heard anything about needing to put recycling in clear bags and I doubt anyone else has either. I will do so going forward, but i'm just saying, this is new info to me and shouldn't be a reason for them to suddenly refuse recycling pickup since i don't think any of us were ever informed of this and they surely picked up recycling many times with opaque bags in there until now. Our building is very diverse and multilingual and there's no way everyone can keep up with all the arbitrary changing requirements (or excuses) especially when they can't inform us in all the languages necessary (well, they don't inform us directly at all, they just tell our management company with some random excuse). It is not appropriate behavior for a company serving a diverse community to constantly change their 'rules' or make excuses like this!
They also now say they won't pick up things like milk cartons for recycling and other common recyclables which I've never heard of either. If you can't change companies, why don't you just get rid of the whole recycling program, since they refuse to recycle so many recyclable items?
Also they don't do free bulky pickup where I am (unincorporated CCC, Saranap - mailing address is Walnut Creek) and it looks like online they don't do free bulky pickup anywhere in the county for buildings with more than 19 units. How are we supposed to combat illegal dumping in such a dense county which already has many 19+ unit buildings and needs more?
So if you can't change companies since you helped create this monopoly, can you at least fine them or something for all this trouble they are causing? What about cutting the recycling program, since they do not offer full recycling capabilities anyway? Of course I would prefer if they did just actually pickup and recycle all recyclables, but since they refuse to do so and there's no other companies thanks to state-sponsored monopoly (just like with pg&e), what else is there to do? Either that or take county ownership of it which would be great, especially if you actually started pickup up recycling, but that would take some time and in the meantime our recycling is piling up! And on a 3 day weekend so it'll take even longer for them to finally pick it up!
I have been with Republic Services for my waste disposal for many years but when COVID hit they absolutely fell apart. Many business lost employees or had a hard time with operations but the type of incompetence that they experienced is next level. I had a service contract that all of a sudden changed (what's the point of a contract) when a new sales woman took over my account. Alex (female) began charging me random amounts for rental of my dumpster and changed the prices of disposal. I spent hours on the phone contacting the corporate offices because the local Auburn Mass location wont give you names of managers to solve your problems. Even the corporate offices were baffled by the seemingly incoherent billing practices and did credit my account... (on occasion) but although I had asked for a new contract (and was willing to compromise on the price because expenses do go up) Alex never sent a new contract. I continued to be incorrectly billed and despite 5+ emails to Ms. Alex I got no response. I did find out months later that Alex had left her position (not the company so she did get my emails just failed to forward them to anyone else...) and the new sales rep was Nicole. Equally inept at her job she also billed me incorrectly but did send a contract (despite multiple errors) and after some clarification and agreement in principal to the contract she promptly had my dumpster removed. When emailed about this she claimed it was her error because she was new and inexperienced. Typically in business you would remedy this type of error swiftly but after a week I simply called it quits and told her it seemed like there was no real effort on her end to fix the problem so we seemed to have severed our business relationship. She became angry about this which was confusing because one would think her colossal mistake might have actually been something she would have been sorry for an humbled by but no... anger... At this point I continue to get bills for Rental fees for the month(s) I have not even had the dumpster on my property and a bill for removal... which... they did on their own due to poor customer service, a poor sales team and poor account management. I can honestly say that in the course of 2 years this company (at least the Auburn Mass branch) has spiraled into such a free fall of idiocy that it may never recover. The idea that contracts aren't binding, that prices vary whimsically and that even when you have no product or service of Republic on your property or that you are using but you are still billed for the product and service is like living in Alice's Wonderland. Up is down and down is up... If I could give them Negative stars I would.
Dumpster and waste disposal
Seven weeks ago to this day, June 15th, 2021, we inquired about a refund on an overpaid a bill. We overpaid it by $300.
NEVER DO THIS WITH THIS GOD AWFUL COMPANY! YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR MONEY AGAIN AND THEY WILL LIE AND LIE AND LIE ABOUT WHEN THEY SENT IT!
We had received an incorrect bill and realized later we overpaid.
So we called and requested a refund. They agreed to pay it, even expedite the payment. They gave us a two week deadline to receive the payment.
Two weeks came and went, and nothing! So we called back again and they promised again that they would expedite a check and get it to us by June 8th.
June 8th came and went, except we got a bill with a credit balance of the amount they owed us on it. So we called again.
The woman answering the call, Christy, admitted she could do nothing. So, she said we could go to the office and they would give us a refund in the form of a check.
We did. They pretty much told us their office didn't handle that, and that their Corporate office in Arizona would have to process the check. They gave us the number to the corporate office and we called. But not before we called Channel 13 News and they called them for us.
Suddenly, a person named something that sounded like Sioban Tae couldn't call us enough. She had a thousand apologies, excuses and lies - telling us the check had been cut on the very day we visited their office, and no, it didn't have to come from corporate and we should have it in a few days.
AGAIN, the check didn't come. So, on the 14th, I contacted Channel 13 news again and they once again called them. I got another call, with no name attached to it. She sounded like the first woman. And this time she told me the check had been processed through Corporate in Arizona, because of the amount. I guess $300 is a lot for a company like Republic Services so they need corporate approval, or could it be she lied again? Because last time they told me it came from a local office and had already been mailed on the 8th.
I'm not sweating the $300 as much a po'd that they just lie and lie and lie. Also, what if the person was broke and needed that money? And how about all the interest this company earns on this money times a thousand each day, which is $9,000 a day at 3% interest. Now multiply this times 352 days and you get an idea of why they do this. It would be millions.
And yes, IT IS CORRUPT!
I don't know if I'll get this credit and earn interest on my own money in the bank or they will try to run my bills each month against a credit balance. But this is b. S.
This city needs to regulate their garbage services and teach their AR departments how to give a refund for overpayments. It's not the garbage service's job to collect our interest on our money.
Please learn from my mistakes! This is how REPUBLIC SERVICES does business in INDIANA
We have used Republic Waste for our small business for over 6 years. Here is what you can expect:
1. Rates continually go up. You are contracted in at one price (READ THE FINE PRINT ON YOUR CONTRACT) but they can raise rates whenever they want. BE SURE TO REVIEW YOUR STATE LAWS REGARDING RATE INCREASES
2. They miss pick-ups or come on an unscheduled day. If you call to see why they missed a pick-up, they will schedule a priority pick up and CHARGE YOU for the "extra" pick-up. I had to start keeping track of pick-ups on our calendar so I could document if/when they were coming
3. After years of dealing with their inconsistencies, we decided that we wanted to change services. THEY MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CANCEL YOUR CONTRACT!
4. READ YOUR CONTRACT! Ours ended on Oct 27,2020... or so I thought. In INDIANA there are no laws protecting consumers against automatic renewal and liquid damage charges, so of course these "contract" corporations take advantage of that, and as of Oct 27,2020 we were AUTOMATICALLY renewed for another 3 years.
5. VERY IMPORTANT! To cancel services you have to send a CERTIFIED LETTER with confirmation of receipt AT LEAST 60 DAYS PRIOR to the end of your contract. IF they receive that letter anytime after your contract end date they will also be able to also CHARGE YOU FOR LIQUID DAMAGES!
I learned this the hard way because I did not go back and review the terms of the contract before Oct 27,2020. I am hoping that other consumers read this and don't get into the same situation I did. I emailed my local rep on Oct 27,2020 telling him that we DID NOT want to renew our contract having not reviewed the terms. He said I had to send a certified letter, which I did. I emailed him to follow up on the certified letter and this was his response:
"Yes, I did receive your letter and will process the cancellation. We will close out the account on 12/12/20 and will remove the containers 3-5 business days from that date.
If you wish to have the container removed sooner then that, we can have that arranged. Please let me know if you have any questions. If there is anything I can do to help you all reconsider, please let me know."
I was so happy it was resolved! But then I got this email today:
"I hope all is well.
I got a call from my manager about this cancellation and he advised me on additional information that is required to get this closed.
I already received the notice; however, we will need to collect 6 months of liquidated damages for breaking the contract. That amount will be $622.50. Once we collect that payment, we will then be able to close out account and break contract.
I did attach the current agreement we have on file that is effective until 8/2023. Please let me know if you have any questions or how would you like to proceed. We do have some options to help live out the remainder of the contract to avoid breaking it."
REALLY? So here I am, having to pay $622.50 to Republic for liquid damages because I didn't read the fine print and I live in a state that allows companies to get away with this.
Used Republic for between 15 to 20 years, closer to the 20 years I believe. I made a mistake and missed a payment, as soon as I found out I immediately paid the overdue bill and called the customer service to ask if they could wave the "$35.00 fee " for restarting my service. Had I been told they would not I would have told them not to restart it and been done with them. The customer service person I spoke to said he would send the request to the appropriate department to have that done. I then paid the amount I owed for the upcoming quarter, minus the $35.00. After a month or so I rechecked my account and it still showed I had a $35.00 fee, plus now a $5.00 late fee, I spoke to customer service again and was told that it was still in the works and not to worry. I then received another bill still showing the $35.00 restarting service fee, The late fee and now a new charge for the upcoming quarter with a $10.00 a quarter increase in the service rate. I promptly called them and canceled their service. I was told the last date that they would pick up my garbage and recycling, the date they would pick up my receptacles, with no indication I would be charged for this. Later I get another bill, charging me for the service I had stopped, the $35.00 restarting fee, the late fee, the $58.50 charge for the service I canceled and now a $35.00 charge for picking up one of the receptacles, and a $15.85 charge for the second one. I called customer service and was told the the $58.50 was a mistake, the $35.00 had been removed but I still owed $55.18 for the receptacle pick up. I told him to eat S%^$ and hung up. Later I called and spoke to another customer service guy and told him I wanted a manager, he asked what the problem was and I explained it to him. He said he did not understand most of the charges that were showing up and placed me on hold. Before the hold I explained to him I was never told about the cost of the pick up and asked if I could have dropped them off myself and he said yes I could have. When he came back he told me that due to Covid 19 the local offices were not accepting returns, and said he had spoken to his manager and the manager was going to review the call from when I canceled their service to see if I was ever told about the cost. He assured me he would call back that afternoon which never happened. A few days later my wife called because I was done being civil with these crooks and had the bill cut in half and was told if I paid $25.00 we would be all paid up. Reluctantly I paid this amount and low and behold a month later I get yet another bill for an additional $5.18 balance. So much for customer service after nearly 20 years of paying without a missed payment. I can assure you they missed picking up my garbage a hell of a lot of times in that time frame, promising when called they would pick it up the next day and never coming back until the next scheduled pick up. I truly hope that some how this Covid 19 crisis causes them to have to file for bankruptcy so they can't continue to screw people over.
Never use this company. We moved into a new home and their locked in price for weekly service was the same as the biweekly from another local competitor. Deciding to be cost efficient, we went with them and regret every second of it. Set up service late June with barrels scheduled to be delivered July 2 ahead of our July 6 start date. The barrels didn't arrive until two weeks after their date. I called multiple times being told it was being escalated and I would get a call with an explanation - NEVER happened. $25 was paid at signup and I had a balance due on the 15th, which I was concerned with paying since I hadn't received any barrels yet. The rep gave me a credit of $10 so I wouldn't be hit with a fee and guaranteed that when the barrel delivery fee hit my account that would also be waived.
Trash pickup was missed on the 8th and then again on Wednesday the 15th. When I called to schedule a missed pickup the best they could do was Monday the 20th. I was given a refund for the month of July $26.50. Since I had my barrels by then and pickup would be Wednesday the 22nd I didn't think it worth it to schedule the miss, since I wouldn't have enough trash piled up in two days time. But, of course, they missed the pickup AGAIN on the 22nd. I scheduled a missed pickup for the morning of the 23rd and they MISSED IT AGAIN. I called first thing on the 24th to cancel. I was guaranteed a refund of the $25 dollars I had been charged PLUS the statement credit which mysteriously was now only $21.75 instead of the $35 that it should be because they had been charging my account at random points over the past few weeks. On the 25th, I showed that my account was closed online with a credit of $21.75 still. Now, on the 26th I have a bill for August through the end of October with fees and barrel delivery charge and it shows I have an account balance due to the company that NOT ONCE fulfilled their part of the service contract.
They are a scam and I am happily taking my business elsewhere and warning anyone else that considers Republic Services that they aren't worth a dime. I only gave one star because I couldn't leave the field blank. They aren't worth any stars.
