GREAT JOB! Keep up the good work...
I replaced the original 6 gallon gas/electric combo spark ignition unit (GC6AA-10E) in my 1996 Holiday Rambler TT with the gas-only spark ignition 6 gallon unit (G6A-8E-6) I received from PPL. This was shipped super fast, and came w/ a new door and a new 12 volt switch. This swap resulted in an exact OEM fit and fast, straightforward installation; I used the old water heater door, only because it has graphics that match the trailer exterior. I also used the existing 12 volt DC water heater switch, only because its located within a small panel along with the holding tank and battery monitors and it is located on the opposite side of the trailer from the water heater. Wiring the new unit was simple as could be; the 3 wire pigtail from the new unit matched the wires from the 12 V DC side of the old combo unit, I just cut the 3 wire harness clip from the old heater, connected that to the three wires (same colors) on the new heater, then snapped it back into the other half of the clip in the trailer once the unit was in place. I had to remove a small bit of the Styrofoam tank insulation from the top of the new tank to accommodate a drawer support frame located right above the water heater, but this is most likely, I suspect, unique to this model trailer. No problem at all. I wanted to go away from the gas/electric combo unit for three reasons. First, that one is more expensive; second, I don't need the faster hot water recovery time; and third, and most importantly, since, as I understand, keeping that same type gas/electric combo unit/setup would have required recommended modifications to the trailer wiring, including replacing and (in my case) relocating the remote 12 volt switch with a combination 12 V DC/120 V AC switch and running new wires for the 120 Volt AC side from the water heater to that new remote switch. The old unit used the remote 12 Volt switch plus a 120 Volt AC switch on the back side of the water heater. Now with the new gas-only unit in place, I am using the original 12 volt remote switch plus I have the unused 120 volt AC outlet near the water heater that was previously used to power the 120 volt AC side of the old combo unit. I won't hesitate to order again from PPL Motorhomes based on price, speed of shipping, clear and on-going communications, and overall ease of this transaction. Thank you to PPL Motorhomes.
