I have a deposit on peopleperhour.com, but I cannot get it back to my account because they require me to submit my PayPal account in their system. The problem is that they changed the answer to my security question (I guess there was a bug with their system or they did that intentionally because my friends also got this problem), so I'm not able to update anything in my account.
This is a robber company. They have my PayPal account in their system and give me an excuse that they need me to submit my PayPal account on their payment page. I also worked as a customer representative many years ago. I know you can always send money to customers' accounts without a problem. Anyway, their policy is the bible and we all need to follow it no matter how unreasonable it is.
Do you know how long I got a genuine reply since I contacted them for the first time? Almost 5 months. They keep closing my ticket or sending me rubbish templates. I finally got a real person to talk with this month when I said I would report them to BBB. They are so insolent. When I talk to a real person, the agent keeps blaming me that I forgot the answer or I have someone changed my security question. That's impossible. I'm not a fool. I wrote down the answers when I set them at the very beginning and I never shared my account with anyone else. This is not a problem only happening to me, but they think it's my responsibility.
They asked me to give them my ID information to get my money back and I refused. This is ridiculous. They hold my money and ask me to sell my privacy to get back the money that belongs to me. To be honest, I don't want to offer any personal information because I don't trust their system and the ethics of their company.
Besides, they said they needed my ID information to match my identity with the name set on my PPH profile, and then they would be able to reset the security question for me. I told them this wouldn't work because the name of my account is not my real name (they didn't require a real name for a buyer's account when I registered my account). There are so many other ways to confirm that I'm the owner of my account, but they choose a completely ineffective one.
In a word, Peopleperhour is an unethical and dishonest company. If you are not scammed up to now, you are lucky. If you have any problem, you won't get real help until you are really angry with them and you decide to report them. Avoid using Peopleperhour!
I have been a loyal freelancer with PeoplePerHour since 2016, have built up a good client base, and have 550+ 100% positive reviews.
I was approached by a new client in September asking me to translate his book into English. He was insistent that he only wanted to make one payment, so he paid the amount in full as a deposit at the start of the project. This money was held in an Escrow account for security while I was carrying out the work, so I haven't seen a penny of it, but I believed I was covered in case of a dispute. After being communicative for the first few weeks, my client was then unresponsive for eight weeks.
I submitted the finished book together with my invoice just before Christmas, and he finally responded stating that he required changes. He agreed to approve the invoice if I promised to make the amendments. I agreed and requested a list of the changes.
Once the invoice had been approved, the funds then went through a two-week clearing period (which according to PPH T&Cs should have been one week). The funds were cleared and available for withdrawal, but the following day PPH rejected my withdrawal, requesting further confirmation that the work was fully complete. They refused to release my funds of over £4,000 until the Buyer responded, despite my protests that the Buyer has not responded or even seen the messages on the workstream for the past three weeks. When I asked them for a timeframe for how long they would hold the funds, they couldn't tell me and just insisted that the Buyer must respond. What if the Buyer never responds?! Do they expect to hold on to my money indefinitely? As far as he's concerned, he's paid the money and doesn't owe anything! I understand that they have to protect Buyers, but what about Freelancers? According to their T&Cs, if a Buyer doesn't respond to an invoice, then PPH can automatically release funds from Escrow after seven days, yet they can't release money that has already been approved by the Buyer?!
I am now being told that they are allowing the Buyer three months to respond, and after that they will re-evaluate, so there's not even any guarantee that I will receive my money after three months! Where is the justification in that?! Please bear in mind that it already took me nearly four months to complete the work without seeing a penny!
It looks as though PPH have already deducted their £423 of fees and no doubt they'll be making interest on my money for as long as they can hold on to it!
If I had known that it was going to come to this, I would never have taken on this project. I will certainly never be taking on any more large projects through PeoplePerHour ever again, as there is no guarantee I will get paid. There is no real support whatsoever for freelancers on this site. I wouldn't be surprised if they started taking admin fees off the amount currently sitting in my PPH account, as funds are not meant to be held in there for more than 30 days.
I can't afford to lose this money, so I will be pursuing this further. Having seen that others are having similar issues does make me question PeoplePerHour's practices.
Hi everyone,
I recently visited the site looking for a reputable web designer and his reply was what sent alarms ringing! Below I will share the actual communication - PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND DO YOUR BACKGROUND CHECKS ON PEOPLE.
My message: 1. Are you advanced on SHopify platform?
2. Looking for someone to update and complete existing website via shopify - are you capable?
3. Please provide (5) websites you have done successfully ( include any heath and wellness)
Thank you
His response:Thanks, Nelaine,
Hope that you are fine,
Yes, I have extensive experience working in Shopify framework including any sort of customization, development etc. and have completed lot of projects in Shopify as you can see here - ( He then provided about 8 sites he claims he designed)
My response:Hi Manish,
Really appreciate the time you took to respond back. After reviewing your previous work done, I have decided to add you to the current shortlist of 4 out of 25 candidates. Congrats.
Next steps: The next steps for myself will be to verify the above info ( websites), so I will be contacting 3 random sites above, just to verify information provided.
Once confirmed, I will then provide you a clear scope in detail.
I will follow up later today or Monday afternoon.
Appreciate your time.
Nelaine.
His response:Thanks, Nelaine, if you would like to confirm the work, I can show the emails and the work proof via screen share but please do not contact any site, I would not like to confirm it in this manner as this really would be irritating to my clients and this might waste their time as well which I truly respect, so please do not contact any site. If you would like to have any kind of proof, I can provide it on call via screen share and you can have a look at my reviews too where I have worked on lot of projects and I have just sent you few of the sites that I have worked on and if it is not convincing enough for you, it is fine and may be we can skip working together this time and we might collaborate in the future as you would like, many thanks
Thanks & Regards,
As you can see above, this makes no sense whatsoever! SO basically he is now running and refusing to work with me because I stated I would be confirming his so called work.
Will never be going back to this site.
Be careful guys.
I uploaded a job on PeoplePerHour on Friday 27th January 2023. They told me if I paid £15 they could circulate my job more easily. I paid £15 from my PayPal account. They then contacted me to say that my ad failed their procedure, or something like that. However, they would not tell me what that failure was. I, asked for my refund and took my job to another agency, without changing ANYTHING on my work request. This new agency had my little job completed that same weekend.
I contacted PeoplePerHour on Monday 30th January 2023 and asked for my £15 refund. That was when I learned that PeoplePerHour do not work on the weekends. They still did not give me my refund and they still did not tell me why my job request had failed their procedure.
By Wednesday 1st February 2023, PeoplePerHour started bombarding me with offers of all types, yet they still had not refunded my money.
On Thursday 2nd February after I requested my refund again, PeoplePerHour told me they had paid my £15 in a PPH Wallet, (which I did not have). I explained to them that I am not a long-standing customer and only opened an account to get that little job I posted with them, done; and I don't even have a password for them anymore. So, can they pay my money back into my PayPal account, where I paid them from?
On Friday 3rd February before PeoplePerHour closed for the weekend, they once again assured me that I can get my money from my PPH Wallet (which I already told them I do not have, and had already told them to pay my money back into my PayPal account, from where I had paid them.)
On Monday 6th February, I commenced all over again, asking PeoplePerHour for my money -- PeoplePerHour telling me I must collect it from my PPH Wallet -- and PeoplePerHour still sending me various offers of service I can get from them.
As you can see, then, PeoplePerHour is a scam. They fraudulently took my £15 not intending NOT to earn it, and beleiving that as it is such a small amount of money, I would not bother try to recover it from them. You can see, of course, just how they are trying not to repay my money.
We don't need a calculator to calculate how much money PeopkePerHour is fraudulently earning in £15 throughout the week in not carrying out customers' jobs. No wonder that unlike Fiverr, Upwork and the like, PeoplePerHour does not have to work on weekends -- SORRY -- PeoplePerHour does not have to scam on the weekends as well. PeoplePerHour is a rouge organization and MUST BE SHUT DOWN by those responsible for doing so; thus, saving unsuspecting customers from being fraudulently abused by PeoplePerHour.
For the record, it is Thursday 9th February and I have just written to an organization begging them to tell PeoplePerHour to pay me my £15 back.
Well done SiteJabber for giving us a voice! You can verify my plight with PeoplePerHour, although I doubt they will verify these facts.

PLEASE DO NOT USE PEOPLE PER HOUR!
PEOPLE PER HOUR CHARGED ME A £15 Deposit -- but they gave me no service for it.
Withdrawal fund for freelancer is getting longer after they enforced a maximum of 48 hours, now it's over 3 days. Even when I wrote this review, they haven't paid for my withdrawal, even the chat support is now inactive.
You can see the proof/screen shot in this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vcgt9xpuwxr7B_DibK1i-9renQjsJ8ap/view?usp=sharing
Edited 03.07.2019: most likely your application prepared in a careful and diligent way and your numerous requests will never reach a human being. Just will be rejected by AI that PPH use. With no explanation. Leaving you with impression that your docs had been reviewed and there had been something wrong with them. And months later if AI will get you with numerous ads saying what wonderful opportunities pph offers for its members and you send a complaint by email, someone may answer you and explain that they never heard of you. It was AI that was sending you "answers". Such someone will be very surprised that you show discontent with such treatment and say it is irrelevant.
Sure we know programmes for cv screening are used. Appeares they are used for blocking and ridiculing applicants as well.
So you have skills, experience and motivation to work? Their AI does not care, it will block you if some parameters are wrong or will send your emails to spam. Nor care its creators.
(Screenshot attached)
The person from PPH, who answered my complaint about ad spamming, has been stalking me with emails since then. He does not understand the word stop. So, it goes that the stuff of the company is dull and passive-aggressive.
Original review:
I was lucky to have a minimum experience witH PPH staff - I submitted the application and after the first reply from the staff I understood I was dealing with the trolls.
I am a qualified specialist with over 15 years experience located in Ukraine. My application form had all required details, attached documents and presentation.
After submitting my application I received an answer that it was OK but lacked some details: I was required to state "my REAL name and my location. I did not understand what "real name" meant since my name and surname were stated during the registration; they were also on the scanned and attached English MBA certificate. As for location (it was wrongly defined) the form does not allow putting or altering it manually - the system does it. I found out that there were no means available to send a proof of location for a reviewer. I received the email from reviewers from info@ and when trying to answer, the address would switch to noreply@. Anyway I sent an email with my commentaries to info@, though I doubt anyone read it.
Next day I received an email saying the application was accepted. Half a minute later there was another email saying the application lacked name and location and should be re-submitted. I re-submitted the application explaining the situation in the body of the form, hoping it will reach the reviewer.
The next email I got, was saying that my third application (which was an earlier approved version) was rejected. There was no reaction to my commentaries, which were in the body of the application (if they were ever read).
It was a deliberate practical joke by PPH, unprofessional and time consuming.
What they did was asking for details, which i) were already on the form, ii) could not be manually changed by an applicant, iii) gave no means to send any proofs for location. Then they accepted the application, then asked for the same details again, then rejected with no explanation.
Message that I sent through online support form asking them to comment on their joke is unanswered.
When trying to login to my page I saw the notification that my application was rejected three times and I should contact the staff.
It is trolling and gaslighting by PPH staff. It is unprofessional and unethical behaviour.
So, if you want to give your time and efforts to people who do not respect firstly themselves by behaving mean and then you, by playing trolling jokes to you, you may do it by connecting to People Per Hour staff.
This is what I have just written - as I deactivated my account - in their 'reasons for leaving' box.

The site is a joke. It should be called 'Slaves for any length of time you like!' You may have started out with good intentions - let businesses who need just a one-off job completed that cannot be filled by current staff find another business or freelance who can do that form them. Instead you have allowed the site to be populated in the main by people looking for slaves to do work for pennies. Some of your members will be desperate for work and so will take on some of these ludicrously priced and often unrealistic projects - if they were employed in the workplace you, as their employer, would be prosecuted for not meeting minimum spay levels! There is one advertiser asking for full translations of animated websites in many languages for around £35 per job! Another which has just been added - #******* - wants a week's ( and despite her thoughts it's probably much more than a week) high level expertise for £200! That's £800 per month - less than £10k per annum! I've just noticed another new post - design a 4 page website for £45! Not per hour - for the job! I've also read one recently from a foreign student in a UK University who wanted someone to write her thesis in perfect UK English as she had failed before and needed to pass this semester and wouldn't be able to because of her English! She was studying English! This is against the law. The site calls itself 'People Per Hour' - yet almost all jobs are set at ludicrously low 'fixed prices'. If it's supposed to be by the hour then make people post their jobs at an hourly rate. Please note also that your own 'match' service is crap! Just because you trawl ads and find one that says the word 'write' doesn't mean it is for a writer. The most recent one you sent me is for a lawyer! Sort out your own house. I just thought it would be a nice sideline for me as I love to write and now have some time on my hands. However I don't need work and I don't need money - so not pandering to the wants of your unscrupulous ( in the main) advertisers is easy for me to do. It's not easy for those desperate for work. By allowing the site to continue to offer jobs at less than minimum wage is simply criminal and you should be fixing a minimum hourly rate per job that matches current pay legislation in the countries targeted. As I said, you are exploiting people desperate for work by ensuring they have no choice but to take on these jobs. In the workplace this is illegal and I am not sure that what you are allowing your site to become is not the same. If you simply ensured that each criteria had a minimum per hour requirement this would ensure that you didn't continue to drive down the market. **And please don't bother to respond to say that there are many satisfied companies out there - of course there will be as they will have found a good source of cheap labour. And of course there are probably a few who are offering good rates to the right people for the right job - but it is clear from a quick look at the site that these are going to be few and far between. In fact my microscope hasn't found one yet. Wake up and see what you are doing. Set minimum hourly requirements for jobs and give people a decent chance to earn a decent income and drive out the unscrupulous. Anne I note that you say you delete reviews when an account is deactivated... so I've kept a copy of this one for my own use.
Anne
They are the worst that i have seen, zero transparency and no accountability whatsoever
I created an account and got an order, i finished it and created invoice, but i received email that my invoice has been rejected because my account is not verified, so i uploaded my ID proof and address proof, my id proof was approved but address proof was rejected and reason was Please send us an actual photo of your proof of address. Now note that address proof was a bank statement which was in pdf format so i thought that may be they need it in image format (also because ID proof was in image format and was approved), so i sent it again in image format, but it was rejected again for the same reason. When i sent an email to support they said we will need an actual photograph, not a scanned or electronic file. Now i dont see the difference between photograph and a scanned copy because details are showing in both files, but i still gave it another try and it was rejected again for the same reason.
Now i couldnt see a solution, my document was being rejected for the same lame reason again and again, email support was giving the same useless response, i had an uninvoiced order and my money was stuck.
So i wrote this same issue in their forum, and guess what! I suddenly somehow violated their terms of use and they deactivated my account. Here is the email i recieved, let me know if it makes sense to anyone of you.
We would like to inform you that your account has been suspended because it appears that you violated our policies.
All members accounts are at the discretion of PPH, and our commitment is to insure the safety and security of all our users.
We kindly invite you to read up on our Terms and Conditions to be certain you understand the rules for participating on PeoplePerHour.
Note that they neither cared to tell me what policies i violated and what about my money which they put hold on nor there is any way to appeal to reinstate an account.
So basically they can keep you money and their is ZERO accountability, no transparency and no explanation whatsoever
Use peopleperhour at your own risk, only if you are ready to lose your hard earned money without any explanation.
Just google it, there are so many people complaining about the same thing, i thought may be they did something wrong but sometimes you learn things hard way.
) I paid additional $15 (close to that amount) to have my job list as urgent
2) I awarded the job to Mxxxxr H on Sunday 3rd Jan, with his rates being higher than average but him stating the job would be completed midweek
SUN 3 JAN Mxxxxr H; Your task seems fairly simple and should not take long at all to complete. Guessing eight hours would cover it, and possibly less.
3) Paid a deposit of $520
4) Midweek came with no advice or update of where he is with the job
ME@ WED 1.29PM; Hi there, just touching base of where and what is happening here?
ME@ THU 9:03AM; Hi Mxxxxr H - would appreciate if you can please advise on an update or if I need to look for someone else to complete this work for me?
Mxxxxr H@ THU 9:29AM; Working on it now. Data is imported and I am preparing forms. Should have it completed late this evening or early tomorrow, at the latest. If that does not work, let me know. My original commitment was to mid-week, and I feel I am on target to hit that, but if there was a miscommunication, I understand.
ME@ FRI 2:35PM; Just wondering when I can expect an update on this job Mxxxxr H?
ME@ FRI 10:55PM; I know there is a time difference between us, but still be good to receive a status update of where you are at... Communication seems to be non exist here and from my perspective, very poor in knowing in what is going on with how you are progressing
ME@ SAT; Mxxxxr H, do you have any update for me on any progress you have made here? I wanted this job completed with an urgency but as I've had no update or feedback for over 48hrs, I don't want to go back to re-posting this job, but as I've not had any updates from you, my only option I guess is to repost this job.
Mxxxxr H@ SAT; Hey Robyn, I am refunding you the following amount.
Reason am not able to complete this Job.
Time constraints
My concerns are as following;
1) Why am I being deducted a refund fee by PPH of $52 when it was the seller that cancelled the job?
A. Why is this fee not coming out of his bank account for cancelling the job?
B. Why is the fee of urgent payment also not being reimbursed by the seller?
2) Why do I not have the opportunity to leave feedback on this seller?
A. Why isnt this incorporated by your site valuations of someone?
B. He kept promising and couldnt deliver, but yet I am unable to leave any feedback of what really occurred
I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt of being able to perform my urgent work, which he entirely let me down, after 7 days of having and for his own fault, its cost me $70 and have nothing to show, including being able to provide feedback on him.
How will PPH provide me with the appropriate refund of all $s spend and enable comments to go against this seller?
Yes, extremely unhappy costumer that won't be endorsing this company! Don't waste your time or $s signing up to them
