Newgrounds Has Become a Toxic Cesspool
September 10, 2023

Subjective Rating: Bad/Very Bad

Explanation - Undoubtfully, this rating is for websites that have very glaring flaws, to the point they don't deserve any positive recognition, and rightly so. In similar vain to the Good/Great rating, there are certain positive qualities that prevent them to be extremely low-effort, but that is far from being a compliment.

Reason: What I find extremely frustrating about this whole site, is that on the behalf of the people's grievances against the site, is that I am getting left in the dark in terms of what sort of violations I am doing. That is a very important principle, but that has been neglected.

And more so, why isn't there a rule of rule system for this site where both administrators and mods, are equal under the rules, like forming rules for them to follow so they won't abuse their authority? If they are to break them, then they should have their status stripped away without question. Just because both rules and laws have a purpose, does not automatically make them pure and above critique, especially if they get corrupted and warped by mortal nature. Anyone who thinks otherwise are deluded.

I have been uploading my TF2 Freak artistry on the website, and they have been removed for no given reason, and have left me in the dark as a result. I confronted Newgrounds on that, and as it turns out, their policies are unbalanced, corrupt, and also straight up tyrannical. In short, the basis for them being removed, is because of them using other "assets," in other words, SFM aesthetics. Even if I am using the assets, that does NOT automatically mean, that I am claiming ownership of those assets. I did not even say ANYWHERE, that I owned them.

Then they had the utter gall, to lock up the thread when I am about to further confront them, considering their toxicity and cowardice. I just honestly wish democracy gives birth to rule of rule in terms of businesses and educational fields like schools, so everyone else (especially the people in charge) to be equal under the rules that have been founded, and to have much more accountability against corrupt upper-managements. Unsurprisingly, I got blocked from messaging TurkeyOnAStick, further proving my point that they are cowards. They also avoided my questions, specifically which says the following: "Let me ask you a simple question, do you honestly think that you moderators, as well as the administrators, firmly think you are above the laws, especially rules? Yes or no?"

Another thing that I have to point out, is that Newgrounds had implemented a feature where people have private messaging disabled, and in the process, the higher-ups will not be held to account, so we cannot reach them. I will have no sympathy for them if they are to get not only sued, but to have their business temporarily shut down for several years as a punishment for abusing their authority, and taking advantage of their own userbase. At the same time, I would feel sorry for the lower employees who have to put up with the callous stupidity and their total disregard for freedom and disgraceful abuse.

I hate abuse of power.

Serious issues with the system
January 22, 2022

The bot that oversees the game is absolute garbage and will ban anyone who gives any realistic review of a game if the creator of the game reports the review for being harassing. The site gives 0 respect for the users and too much power to absolute garbage creators who only release pay to win content or often demand money for a garbage game or movie. Yes the 5 second to 45 second quick play movies were great for 1998 but it is 24 years later and these "artist" who keep demanding more cash for not actually releasing anything actually good have far too much power. The site needs an overhaul badly. The person who runs the bot account that oversees everyone who makes a review has not logged into the site sense 2005 which is 17 years ago. Tom Fulk has not logged into Newgrounds sense June of 2007. The only way for this site to actually become good again is to actually have an active owner and people to actually run the site instead of an ancient botting system set up for back when artists actually took time in making actual artwork. At least 50% of the games on the site are blocked by a Paypal pay wall for the real game and they do not follow the actual rules. There is no such thing as purchasing anything really on the site. The site has too many movies and games that have not existed on the site for decades yet they still have the broken links. The botting system that runs the site is far to old and far too garbage to do anything with any real accuracy. The site has been abandoned by all actual leadership and ownership. The leveling system is utter garbage. The way the leveling system works is if you give a 0 review you get 0 points in your leveling system but if you give 1 to 4 you get 1 point but if you give a 5 star review you get 2 points and your points are basically xp. So in truth the only actual way to get your level to 99 which is max is to go onto every item and give 5 stars weather the item is actually good or utter garbage. The system does not give any real ranking in abilities. You do not even need to right a review all you have to do is go to any image and give 5 stars and do that about several million times and you will be maxed level. Tom Fulks account is only a level 15 which shows how utter worthless he actually cared about the site. The only reason why Newgrounds has any users at all is simple because Newgrounds is the only effective Flash using site left and the only reason Newgrounds is still a flash using site is because nearly 20 years ago Newgrounds created their own flash system for the site itself and then the owners and people who run the site forgot to ever change anything about the site. The site is far too old and far too antiquated to fix anything about it. To be honest the site does need a overhaul from ground up but that will never happen because the people who run the site all but abandoned the site completely and had abandoned the site well over a decade ago.

Tip for consumers:

Do not waste your time.

Products used:

Newgrounds but do not use it for it is garbage.

Not What It Used To Be
December 26, 2021

Newgrounds was once a neat site of flash games in the 1990's and 2000's, starting off as a display of one man, Tom Fulp, while eventually evolving into a site where people can post their own games and movies. However, over the years, it has gone to the point where it's no longer in its former glory.

While it does have some good games and movies, there are movies and games that either copy off each other or are basically copies of more popular games (one game is basically the NES game Contra recreated, which I wonder how it stayed up without Newgrounds getting a cease and desist from Konami, as while it does add options and improve the effects, it adds nothing new, as it's just the same game as some gamers growing up in the 80's and 90's played on their Nintendo Entertainment System, and most movies posted on the site nowadays are either using characters recreating scenes from various movies and TV shows or basically having a character do a meme, which there are way too many of the latter), there are two things that ruin the experience.

The first is basically how toxic other members can get when you review a movie or game. Like almost every other site (YouTube, deviantArt), the members are not kind to users, especially those who don't have the opinions they expect them to have. Don't like a movie because and in your review, said it's because you're not into a certain humor it follows? Well, be prepared for other users to use the React feature to spam angry emojis to show how they hate your opinion or use the laugh emoji as a way to make fun of you for your opinions. Post constructive criticism on a game suggesting how to fix it? Prepare to be flamed to kingdom come. While there are good people who agree, sadly, they are far and few. Also, expect to be bashed for your rating as well, as rating something lower than the majority will open you to some backlash, especially if you post a review explaining why you rated a movie or game as such.

But the other problem is what makes this site bad. While the site allows stuff to be rated for appropriate age group (lowest being E, for everybody, to A, for adults only), most of the A-rated stuff is actually questionable. No, not because of the content, which while I cannot say to avoud breaking Sitejabber guidelines (but is expected from such a content rating), my main issue is that some of the movies and games with the rating cross the line. However, the site has sadly come to be filled with this filth, as users like this so much that they vote it high to keep them on the site, regardless of the illegality, and anyone pointing out the canon age are ridiculed and flamed. This I can see as a major problem for NewGrounds going into the future.

In conclusion, while Newgrounds still have some good games and videos, it is not as good as it used to be. If you do use, be sure to avoid posting reviews, and thankfully, the site does have options to hide movies and games of certain content ratings, so that earns it an extra star.
