The volunteers are wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them. The food ranges from delicious to barely edible--but it's a bargain and a godsend for us, especially compared to what most people are paying for similar meals.

BUT...they have a tendency to put sugar in items that don't require it. Today, for example, we were served three different kinds of vegetables and some kind of sweetener was in each one (carrots, corn, sweet potato). A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) provides evidence that people who ate the largest amounts of added sugar had the highest blood triglyceride levels and the lowest HDL (good) cholesterol levels. In 2023, the BMJ listed additional harms. Go here to read more:

This should be an easy practice to change and if that happens, I'll remove this review and add more stars. Thanks!

During this quarantine I have eaten a few of Meals on Wheels. I was shocked at how bad the food is, small portions of very low quality food, highly processed meat like items. I find it hard to believe there is much nutritional value. I think it is the tupe of food that is actually bad for health. I am shocked and ashamed that this is what the elderly and disabled are being offered as their main source of food, it is slop at best.
