Terrible to work for, no redeeming factors.
December 22, 2023

MandM Direct Ltd is truly a "super trash" mega company, following a generic, nasty business blueprint that is torturous for workers but good for profits, and sign up to that pretentious colonial imperialism. I did picking for them involuntarily, which I will explain, and it was just as foul as any other warehouse I've ever been to.

Imagine a job order picking you don't even apply for, didn't want, are not interested in, warned I won't be good at, suffer physical pain from and deep exhaustion for but are still forced into and to top it off, it's easy to get sacked from. That is now your reality. That's me and it wasn't honestly by consent. (poor = need job, a fake choice) I was coerced and persuaded into this post modern slavery, that's the only way to describe the contract. Forced labor, via the backdoor. This is exactly what "you will own nothing and be happy looks and feels like. Working for M&m picking, It's better to not live at all than to live a life tainted by enormous physical effort in return for rewards paid in peanuts. You don't deserve me, so don't ask for my service ever again. I demand to be blacklisted from here. I literally burst into joy, when I got the sack, over the phone. About the only good thing about M&m warehouse, was being able to escape, getting away from that wretched cursed 1940's replica concentration camp, now someone give me a job I actually care about doing, for once... I shall be so lucky. Being located in the back of beyond gives even less incentive than there already wasn't to ever go back.

"Welcome to hell" are words I would mutter on the coach, filled with non-natives I can't understand in their own languages, for a 2 hour return journey, complete with BEO after breaking souls to maximum energy output all day, everyday, 2 hours morning/night prep, 7.15 hours of non stop walking, turns into a 12 hour day of pure misery, pain, exhaustion and low pay.
Work is not supposed to feel like a punishment, however MandM have really mastered employee-punishment as an artform.

But we haven't even touched the surface. You go there with the infamous fingerprint scanner (feels like a trap, like you can forget to use it) when you scan at the entrance anyway... Smacks of a sneaky tactic to try and not pay the workforce ie the life blood of any/all business, anywhere in the world. Without staff, you'll be going out of business fairly quick. It is not a "given" that people work there, like me, we do it because it was part of some mandatory commitment, no one is there voluntarily.

A canteen that isn't fit for actual prisoners, no cooked dinners here, but you can enjoy donuts, crisps, fatstuff with no nutritional content, and makeshift camping tables to sit at. All of this screams of negligence. Don't get me started on the state of the toilets and bombarded with crowding at certain times. Short of writing a book... Well.

No concern for my personal belongings, I have to risk my stuff to theft because I locked the key in the locker only because I was in so much pain on my feet it interferes with a methodical thought process. "it is what it is" is the response I get from a orange vest. This Unbearable lack of respect for me as a worker has me fuming, but I save-face... I need the crummy money. Of course.

Security protocol treats everyone like a suspect, but it's unclear as to why... Many customers here have cited they received fake goods... So even if someone did steal, they are stealing fake goods... So why are M&M so protective of counterfeit brands, this company is a definitely a laughing stock (pun intended)

Turnover of staff is about as high as their actual turnover of profit. News of getting sacked will come as a cause of celebration. I hope to be blacklisted. Never ask me again. "Never again" is my response to this shameful company. Better treatment in prison. Oh I'm sorry do I keep mentioning prison one too many times?! Seems to be an ongoing theme there.

Filled with a slave driving culture, you will need to run round in the cold or get on the trolley to push with your foot to meet the speed expectation... The chains and whips of yesteryear have been replaced with computers. One you are forced to handle with everyone's germs smeared over instead of wear on your wrist and the second computer found in a cosy office, producing candle and pie charts for smug arrogant office dwellers to mull over whilst themselves are not being monitored for KPI. I now recognise the word KPI monitoring, as a coded terminology to Leave ASAP

Managers who are power tripping, don't care about people except barking orders to hurry up and recommending the sack. That's not what management is about and I don't need a degree to say it. No team building, no getting to know your staff. No feedback, no nothing from them. Don't even dare to sit down on your downtime, you'll get the sack. It's all your own fault. Enough stress here to anger a Saint.

MandM are so eager to sack people, from a place that offers absolutely nothing to workers. The wage is barebones legal minimum to keep the lawsuits at bay, an underpaid scam, what they can get away with paying, but expect output of a few tonnes, not gonna happen, delusional. Robots can keep up with 90 case per hour. Human, 60. For me I managed about 70 non stop work, not talking, no slacking. Still 30% more effort needed to hit this requirement for no corresponding pay rise. Yeah, no thanks.

Digital KPI (key performance indicator) monitoring... When thet only pay the scraps of minimum wage?! Again more comedy, pretending that minimum wage is like a gift from God. Give over, pathetic NPC programming.

Act like the minimum wage is a privilege?!... All the trollies are at least 20 years old, suffering damage from 24/7 wear and tear, wobbly, loud, overused, not to mention. Break times that are short, sharp and constantly changing. How do you fancy not even getting a seat in the break room because it's too small. Don't stand near vending machines if you're not buying anything! That's rude! Pffft.

Items in wrong box, every single box has this problem. Boxes with nothing in them, but still send you all the way round, instead of managers having some common sense and shut off the location until refill to save time and journey for pickers. Fire drill assembly point card terminal doesn't even work, try twice in a row to register rather than once (because once makes too much sense) would you enjoy some career progression, At MandM we are proud to get rid of people after 2-3 months rather than show any sort of care whether you turn up or not (we'll get another pleb in, it doesn't matter, who cares?!?) good question. WHO cares? Someone ought to, Certainly not you MandM!

The list of bad, is endless, as aforementioned

It is a company so completely filled with problems, top to bottom, not 1 thing is good about working there, not even by choice and the pay is severely underpaid for the volume of work being asked to do and the time involved honestly makes it hell on earth. I am glad to see the back of the place. Never again and Good riddance. ZERO stars are rewarded.

Blacklist me, please. NEVER say yes to working there, I'd rather mop floors in a real prison for the same amount of time given, energy given and wage, than work at MandM warehouse. Give me forklift or office work, not operative. If you haven't got what I want to work I've zero interest. No free travel back home off the back of their millions, staff treated like a Durex. A total debacle deserving of ZERO stars. 1 star is 1 too many. Maltreatment and Misery, Direct, Unlimited staff turnover. Tonnes of work for grams of pay and a "we'll get some other mug do your job" attitude

Disgusting.

Tip for consumers:

Don't work there, don't buy from there. Stay away.

NIGHTMARE COMPANY
October 27, 2022

Rude customer service blame customers for their laziness and faults, technical problems on their side. You have to pay for a return postage plus THEY DID NOT GIVE ME A REFUND ON ALL ITEMS I RETURNED. THEY CHEAT BY ARRAGING A REFUND FOR LESS ITEMS IN CASE THE CUSTOMERS DO NOT REALISE IT. THEY DO NOT PUT PRICES ON THE REFUNDS OR CONFIRMATION OF REFUND SHOWING THE PRICES SO YOU NOT AWARE IF YOUR REFUND IS LESS.
ABSOLUTELY THE WORSE EVER CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO DOES NOT READ EMAILS OR CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WRITTEN ENGLISH.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM. THE BUYING, DELIVERY ISSUES, TYL. REFUND ISSUES.; NNNNNNNEEEEVEEEERRR AAAAGGGGAAAAIIIIINNNNN

Absolute garbage
September 10, 2022

The website is good and so are the prices but it's a shame they use Evri/Hermes for their deliveries.

Time and time again this delivery company has been voted worst busines in the UK but MandM still use them... why? I suppose its down to price, I would much rather pay for delivery that have it free from this joke of a company.

I made an order on the 29th August for next day delivery, its been delayed time and time again by hermes/evri and despite multiple emails of reassurance from MandM customer services saying they will resend my items I have still not got anything

************* Edit: ***************

I have been in contact with you every day for almost 2 weeks now!
Your customer services team keep saying they will be in touch but never are!

Hermes/Evri have my parcel, they havnt even attempted to deliver it, they sent me 2 texts saying delivery failed on both the 8th and 10th September, I have a full cctv system plus ring door bell, no one came to my house so this is a blatant lie, Evri/Hermes have always and always will be the most useless and deceitful delivery service and are a disgrace to their profesion.

Both you and Evri are virtually impossible to contact, you do have an email but that way you can decide when to reply, as for Evri the only contact for them is a automated bot that just tracks your parcel and that's it.
I have literally wasted whole days of my life just trying to find out where my t-shirts are, it's absolutely rediculous

If you want to actually make an attempt to make this right then here is my order number #51A63AH

I can tell you one thing though, I found all the same items on Amazon for less money and next day delivery, so after 22 years ordering from you I will now make it my life's passion to tell everyone I can to avoid MandM direct and Evri at all costs just down to the way I have been treated.

Tip for consumers:

Don't bother, although they have branded names on the clothes it's not the same quality and the actual brands, just cheap clothes with the labels printed on

Misleading returns policy meant I paid over £50 to return items - and they under-refunded me as well
September 27, 2020

AVOID. DREADFUL RETURNS POLICY WHICH RATHER THAN THE £2.99 ADVERTISED ACTUALLY COST ME OVER £50 – AND they tried to refund me £15 less than they owed.

I ordered multiple items, intending to try on at home and return the rest.

I checked the returns policy before ordering this large amount of bulky items. It states on their that they "have a no quibble 28 day returns policy". I checked their Returns section of their website which states that I should just add a returns label for £2.99 to guarantee I could return all items with "no extra costs involved"

The items came: in two large boxes. But they only included ONE returns label. The returns wouldn't fit in one box though.

I looked again at their returns section; deep within their FAQ buried in there it states that each parcel of returns is limited to an insurance pay out of £50 if it was lost or damaged by their chosen courier; but I needed to return merchandise worth £800.

I emailed M and M direct customer services to ask for clarification, stating that this wasn't made clear at the point of purchase, and nor was it made clear that I would have to buy two returns labels anyway because they were sending my items in two boxes and not one.

In response, their customer services rep simply accused me of being a trader who was selling their items on! She therefore said that I was not a standard customer and that the Consumer Regulations 2015 did not apply to me and that she would not be sending another returns label either.

I emailed back with a complaint, and also asked them to show me where I was allegedly selling their items. And obviously I stated that I was a normal customer who had made a big order with the intention of keeping some and returning the rest and I was very concerned to read that this meant in their eyes that I was suddenly a trader and not a consumer and that they also expected me to swallow £750 losses if their courier lost or damaged the returns parcels and asked them for clarification.

I did get an apology from their customer services manager for this, and an acknowledgement that in fact I was not selling on their items. But he also said that all their returns boxes are limited to £50 pay out if they are lost or damaged by the courier and therefore I would either had to send them back uninsured and stand to lose £750 if they got lost, or pay a separate courier myself and fully insure them.

So I had to pay OVER £50 postage to return the unwanted items.

There then followed a week where they also under-refunded me; £15 short and they quibbled repeatedly about this. In the end I had to write down every single item returned with its product code and cost and added them all up and told them to get their calculators out and see for themselves they were £15 short.

They refunded me in the end. But what a palaver. A misrepresentation of "quibble free" returns and a misrepresentation of the "hassle-free" £2.99 returns service – which cost me over £60 and about six hours of my time.

NEVER AGAIN. Avoid.
