BOTTOM OF THE BARREL
January 8, 2020

Kijiji used to be a site where people made respectful, informal transactions of reasonably priced household items they no longer needed to recover a bit of the cost. Now it is commercialized and overrun with businesses that have duplicate and "no longer relevant" (which is Kijiji's way of saying not available) ads that bury your listing(s) in some categories within minutes. Many of them misrepresent themselves as "owners" which is Kijiji's way of describing a non- business private seller and list services in product categories. Some are unlicensed, uninsured, uncertified, unscrupulous etc. Some are avoiding taxes while on social assistance. Many are both. Compounding this is Kijiji's persistent attempts to get you to pay for the privilege of temporarily moving your ad to the top of the pile and to get you to click on paid ads that are constantly scrolling the screen (mobile app) so that you wind up selecting one of them by accident. I find it laughable that anybody would pay for ad "upgrades" unless they drastically improved the quality of the ads and user behavior. Reposting ads puts them at the top of the 'most recent" default search sort which is what your search annoying keeps reverting to when you change anything in it. Thousands of ads are uploaded via automated processes such as scripts typically on Friday evenings which can prevent you from uploading your ad(s). Since my ads contain a bit more than the ubiquitous one picture three words ads they are not as easy to repost. Kijiji rarely if ever deletes duplicate, expired, miscategorized or bogus ads despite assurances. They will however delete your ad quickly without even contacting you and for unfounded reasons. I found this out when I posted a polar bear stuffed animal replete with make and model number, materials tag and measurements. I presume (since they never explained how it came to be) that one of their automated processes flagged and deleted my ad based on a keyword or user decided that my ad was selling an item prohibited under the non-specific Illegal or Unauthorized Wildlife Products section of their policy despite the fact that it clearly was not made of such nor is Polar Bear skin banned (it is controlled) and reported it and an employee who was unable to comprehend (ESL?) what the ad was selling. For a laugh check for Polar Bear rug and you will find many of them for sale so I am not sure how they decided that a stuffed animal was prohibited but not rugs made from real polar bear parts. It took two appeals to find someone at Kijiji that had elementary school level comprehension to listen to my request to read the ad and look at the pictures and see that it was not a prohibited item and repost it. I took the ad down anyways as there was no assurance of more of the same. As a test I posted a warning type of ad which people sometimes post to let people know about a scammer and had it taken down very quickly,. They don't want it known that they are a scammer's paradise. They no longer allow ticket resales due to their ineffectiveness and unwillingness to work with LE to act on specific scammers. This helps ticket selling companies gouge purchasers by getting paid multiple commissions and
Usurious "service fees" on the resale of the same tickets. Some ticketing agencies ban resales of many events limiting your option to even cover your costs if you can't attend. I have reported thousands of ads based on their policy and have yet to see them act. I assume that they loathe me for ensuring there is no way they can honestly have any statistics that say they are managing their content or users effectively from a customer perspective anyways. They also have numerous ads for prohibited items such as recalled products, counterfeit items, false locations, stolen items such as tools and bicycles which they don't require the serial number which would greatly lower the value of them to thieves and fences. I rarely buy as most ads lack accurate, relevant and or verifiable content and I don't have time to waste asking for information and or pictures about items that should have had it in the first place or waiting to see if I get a reply and if it is of any use. Most of the time I find the item is " not as described" with damage (typically hidden and or undisclosed), older snd more worn, lower quality, soiled, incomplete. Kijiji allows ads which lack specifics such as tire and wheel specifics that are not really optional unless you are intending to use them for something other than their intended purpose. Despite the numerous problems I do manage to sell my items as I don't really have an alternative platform that allows me to remain anonymous which I insist on for safety and sanity. I have been purging for years and have hundreds of transactions which take anywhere from 10-20 contacts per item before a suitable buyer is found and 5-30 message to get them to read the ad and show up to the meeting place. They typically start a conversation with the Kijiji provided nuisance message "Hi, is this still available?" I understand many sellers don't take down their ads and Kijiji doesn't remove them even when the seller states the item is sold and it is reported but one should assume the item is available. Illiterates and Non national language speakers really appreciate the canned messages. The new owners (eBay) have introduced statistics such as a response time and a rating system misnomered as review (stars only) These both lack protections from abuse so losers that have nothing better to do than message you when you are unavailable such as at 2AM which will lower your response time rating if you don't reply promptly. Kijiji doesn't allow you to review someone unless you mark the item as sold and indicate the buyer. Then the buyer must respond positively to Kijiji's question did they buy the item and complete the review. This assumes that the system is working which many times it's not.
This their third attempt at trying to get a useful rating system and a failure again because it allows abuse. Anybody can message you on any and every listing and you can indicate you sold the item to them and you can give each other glowing ratings which most people never look at the details. Creating additional is easy and allows separate seller and buyer accounts despite it being prohibited. I found out that Kijiji doesn't enforce the multiple account policy after having aggressive hagglers that were blocked return under a different acct. Some commercial sellers such as tire dealers use this to get around the limits on the number of free listings in certain categories to avoid paying for a business acct. Sellers are not able to limit messages to distance range so rest assured you will get the inevitable message "Where are you located" and do you ever come to...? Despite the advice you don't being in the ad. Typically this will occur after the inquirer has been asking you other superfluous questions trying to hook you. Better yet they will ask if you can deliver, ship or meet them somewhere close to them. I could go on for pages about the illiterate, ridiculous, sociopathic, dishonest, disrespectful and uncivilized people that I have dealt with that have given me an insight to the type of people I'm surrounded by but it's a bit off topic.

P.S. The image is a 17' wheel that Julie thinks is 18" because the face is about 17.5" Sadly not shown in the capture

Beware of Home Professional Renovations - Scammer
September 2, 2019

We're celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and my wife wanted a deck done. So we can celebrate it with our relatives and friends. I've hire a contractor to do our deck and told him that we need the deck done before our anniversary. He promised that he'll make us a nice deck so we can celebrate our anniversary there. The contractor's name goes by the name of Pat. He gave us a price and we agreed to do the whole deck. He asked for 2k to buy materials and start. After a week he asked for 2.5k. A week after he asked another 1k and he said that he'll 85% done. He then increased the price for 1k which is on top of the amount we agreed on. He threatened not to show up until I've given him more advanced money. He walked out before but came back because I've agreed to give him more money than we originally agreed. This contractor have given us so much stressed since he started. He's paranoid. I can't ask him question without being defensive. I asked him to do 1 part of the deck. He responded that he'll do the deck on his own time and terms. Last time he texted me. He threatened to not come back and finish the deck unless I give him the balance.
I told him to finish everything and I'll pay him once everything was done. He wanted the balance before finishing his job but the job was only 50% done and I've already paid him 95%.
He told us his name is Pat but his real name is Peco Naumoski, his cell no is *******665. We had to take photo of his car plate number after telling me he'll walk out if he doesn't get advance money. Our proof is on our email trails.
Now my deck is only about 50% finished and he got 95% paid. The whole job was bad. We're thinking of filing legal action.
Remember to beware of homeprorenos.com - owner is Peco Naumoski, cell no *******665.

WHAT COMPANY HAS A BUSINESS ADDRESS EDIT OPTION THEN REMOVES IT
December 27, 2018

Julien: Welcome to Kijiji's Live Chat! I would be delighted to help, please allow me a quick moment to review your request before we get started.
I REQUESTED TO CHANGE A BUSINESS ADDRESS THAT HAS BEEN BUILDING VIEWS FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS, 3 YEARS AGO CHANGING THE ADDRESS WE STARTED FROM OUT OF OUR HOUSE TO OUR FIRST. RETAIL LOCATION.

FREEMIUM STYLED FEATURE REMOVAL ONE BY ONE TILL not a single person will use this company.

Julien: Hi there Alex, I understand your request to change the address on your ads but unfortunately it is not possible to make these changes after the ads have been posted. New ads would be required in order to post a new address while creating the ads. I apologize for the inconvenienceé
Me: Thats completely outragious i request a supervisor these ads are a digital asset because of the traffic
Me: that policy you just stated
Me: is less old then these ads
Me: therefore
Me: these ads those policies do NOT apply to
Me: So kindly
Me: Escalate this issue IMMEDIATLY i can not express how important it is to keep these ads with the amount of views we have on them
Julien: I understand your frustration Alex. The changes are not technically possible in our systems, by me or a manager/supervisor. We cannot physically change the addresses on these ads unfortunately, It is impossible at this point.
Me: That is completely false I know you can. I know how websites work. Back ends of POS systems. This is all because of your new policies, Pass this issue off to someone with more authority please. We run a digital asset creation company as well. I am not stupid
Me: What kind of company REMOVES THE ABILITY TO LET THE CUSTOMER CHANGE ADDRESS
Me: ON A BUSINESS AD...!?!?!
Me: Pass me off to someone else please
Julien: I understand your request fully Alex, but I regret to inform you that even my manager does not have the ability to make this change. This affects all Kijiji users. If a new address is needed, a new ad must be posted.
Me: With more patience and actually wants to help me, that can see the importance in my issue here today.
Julien: I understand that you think I don't want to help you Alex, but I'm trying to be real with you
Me: Pass me off to someone else please, Pass me off to someone else please
Me: With more patience and actually wants to help me, that can see the importance in my issue here today.
Me: You say that but you really are not trying at all. You can; t help me i understand that. Get me someone who can.
Julien: No one can change the address for you on the ads I'm sorry, just trying to be real with you Alex. I can have my supervisor contact you of course bu they will tell you the very same thing.
Julien: I understand that the views on the ad are important of course. But it's not often that a business changes addresses so this will not be happening often.
Me: That is completely false. Do not tell me missguided infomation. If you cant help me then just help me get in contact with someone who can try
Julien: OK well I can have my supervisor contact you Alex.
Me: You have been trained in the new criterea so you are totally unaware of the way things on kijiji used to operate.
Me: THank you
Me: [
Me: Much appreciated.
Julien: Please, I've been with Kijiji for years.
Me: This sites obiously a "Freemium" styled classified site now
Julien: I will request contact from my supervisor to you.
Me: thank you\
Julien: No problem, do you have any further questions?

Very frustrating experience
October 2, 2018

Although I've primarily been using Kijiji for apartment hunting, I decided to try posting a personal ad looking for an activity partner (I used to do this occasionally on Craigslist before its personals shut down). I read the rules, which stated that it was against their policy to advertise anything outside of platonic friendship (i. E. dating or anything of a sexual nature). Ok, fine, no problem there. So I posted an ad stating a few basic physical characteristics, my interests and intentions, and attached a couple completely acceptable pictures of myself. Within ten hours, I check the site and I get the following message: "Oops... your ad must be really popular. It's already gone!"

First of all, what the devil does that even mean... why would my ad be gone if it was popular? I checked my email and it turns out Kijiji sent me a message saying that my ad was removed for violating policy, and explained that it could be misconstrued as a dating request, even though everything I wrote was completely neutral! They also mentioned that all ads had to be "gender neutral" and that you couldn't request friendship from the opposite sex. I was furious, especially considering that there were (and still are as of this writing) a multitude of ads on the site that clearly fit that criteria to the letter- men requesting friendships from females and including the exact same kind of info and wording as what I wrote.

So I wrote a detailed complaint to them, asking them why they singled out my ad over all the others that had still not been removed after being active for weeks. I was very polite and courteous with them. After sending the message, the automatic response said that a representative would contact me "shortly". I have no idea what "shortly" means in Kijiji's world but after 12 hours and still no reply, I wrote them a forceful message saying that I was going to repost my ad, and subsequent removals were going to result in me filing a discrimination complaint against them with consumer affairs. Well, can you guess what happened? Same thing, only it took about 3 hours this time. Still no other removals of any other ads.

This behaviour is absolutely disgusting and Kijiji are a bunch of cowardly sociopaths for doing this. Pathetic.

Awful experience with Kijiji seller
December 15, 2017

I had an awful experience with a seller on Kijiji. After I told him that I would come to pick up a washer and dryer, he said that he wasn't ready to let them go yet, so I would have to wait a week for them which I told him was okay. Then the next day, he told me that he received so much response for the price he was asking which was $300 and $25 for a stacking bracket that he increased the price to $600 with $25 for the bracket but he would keep the original price for me at $525. I stated that the original ad had $325 with the stacking bracket. He said that I was wrong so I contacted Kijiji to check what the price was and they stated that information was private information. I asked the seller to contact them but he said that he wouldn't do that. So, the original ad had a washer and dryer model numbers which had features which had features such as a steamer and rack for the dryer which it didn't have.

I asked seller if I could watch the washer go through a short cycle but he said that he didn't want strangers in his house for that long. So, I picked up the washer and dryer because it had the loading bracket for them and I waited for a week and paid him a deposit of $50 by bank transfer so he would delete the ad from Kijiji. When my boyfriend installed the stacking bracket, it was too long and wouldn't work with the washer and dryer. So, I checked the manuals for the washer and dryer and it was the wrong bracket number. The seller told me that I could return the bracket for $25. His house is an hour from my place so it wouldn't be worth it for me to return it for $25 for just the gas money. So, I found a website which sold me the correct bracket which cost $200. Now, I have to wait until I receive the bracket before I can use the appliances. I asked the seller to give me $200. He sent me $25 for the bracket and stated that bracket was that correct bracket.

Here is his information so don't buy anything from him.
