Ixl sucks so much. For example once i had a smart score of 99. Then i got the next answer correct then it stayed at 99 then i got the next one wrong because i did 7.5 as an answer and they wanted 7.50 and it dropped it down all the way to 78 even though 7.5=7.50. So teachers don't spend your money just to torture children

Makes me wanna die.
September 21, 2023

Its mostly about the point deducting…. Get one question right and you get 1-2 points! Get one question wrong, 5 points or more is taken off…. Definitely a good system! IXL really knows how to make children have a sobbing session!

Ixl would have been an amazing learning tool if not for one issue, the smart score you gain lessens over time. You start off gaining 8-10 points per question before it plummets to around 5-7 and it keeps going down the more questions you get wrong, this can make it very easy to get 4-5 questions wrong in a row and never be able to get back up without getting another one wrong, also when you lose points it does not curve so you always lose around 15-20 points per wrong question. This combined with no walkthrough lessons make this much worse than much better programs and alternatives such as Khan Academy and things of the sort. Overall, unless you want groaning students and crying at home, do NOT use your money on this and instead donate some to khan academy, Which is free. Fix the curve and I might use it.

Terrible
December 13, 2022

I hate this app, it is incredibly demoralizing, and I've seen so many people cry over it. Would not reccomend! I've also seen kids smack and hit their laptops over this. It doesn't explain the answers well enough for you to solve them later.

Oh boy.
May 18, 2022

Just so $#*!ing annoying. Would rate zero stars but I cant. The problem about IXL is it's rigged. The point system is glitched and it doesn't help kids. I looked at recent reviews and it actually makes students less engaged in the lesson IXL has to offer. Also, I found that some of the lessons make you assume genders.

It was so boring. I can't figure out why the smart score goes down so much. I have a list of complaints.
#1: It could go on forever. You have to do more questions for each wrong one.
#2: It makes me cry.
#3: If you put something like 9.5 It will be wrong and and say its 9.50
That's why You shold ban IXL.

I would advise all educators and parents to stay far, far away from IXL. The "curriculum," if you could call it that, is stressful for the kids and has led to self-harm and harm to others before. It is ranked 650th of teacher-helping apps, so if you really need something like IXL to contribute to your teaching effectiveness, there are at least 649 better options overall. It would be in anybody's best interest to not download this app from hell and subjugate your pupils or children to it.

How is IXL still ongoing?
December 12, 2022

There are so, SO many 1-2 star reviews out there, yet some parents and teachers (and even schools) still use this forsaken website. I have a lot to say in the picture attached below. Anyways, IXL should be gone by now, since it's literally a scam. It asks for a heaping ton of money in exchange for ruining young lives. I hope that someone in authority would finally put that "thing" 6 feet - no, 10 feet - no, FOREVER UNDER! Hopefully, IXL will go away or be changed to stop tormenting everyone who's used it before and nowadays...

I'm a second grader and Most of my teachers assign IXL to us on the daily. We go home, sit down, answer questions with a correct/incorrect point ratio of +1/-8, you can get up very high, near 100, just to have it all destroyed by an awful question. If you get it wrong, it doesn't do a good job of explaining what you did wrong. It just says you got it wrong. Thats it. It isn't hard to grade, either. Just open the lesson and write the number. You don't have to write assignments, assign bookwork and grade it, anything and everything is done by the site. This website has led to computer damage, suspensions, and tears/pain. It isn't good for mental health. People have had full-blown breakdowns because of this. I would only wish this pain upon the teacher who assigned it. In short, stay clear of this website. I salute the teachers who dont assign IXL.

I am currently in grade 7, and we do IXL everyday for 30 minutes on certain assignments. Have I learned/improved any of my skills in advanced Language Arts, advanced mathematics, science, or social studies? No. I haven't. And this is coming from a nerdy kid who LIKES school. I absolutely try in every class and enjoy my time there, but IXL is such a draining portion of my day. It would be much more efficient to just have study hall during these 30 minutes of my day. Because my homework at least makes me somewhat better than IXL.

I hate IXL it makes me lose confidence and it just sucks in general. The amount of points you earn from gaining and losing score is very unbalanced. Unlike other math programs like khan academy that help you with problems IXL thros that idea out the window and resorts to a punishing method of forcing you to answer question after question under the pressure of a stupid timer. I hate IXL and hope it gets shutdown soon. 0/10 for me do not use this math program

OK guys, don't listen to the babies who can't handle doing a few hours of math. Although IXL can be frustrating, it really teaches you to continue learning. I can't give it a five or even four star rating because it is a stupid way to teach you, but you know sometimes the dumbest ways are the best. So please stop whining and actually do the math.

Makes Kids Cry
December 20, 2022

I would stay away from this app. IXL has made my friends cry multiple times before. In IXL, there is such thing as a challenge zone near the end of the questions. You only get 1 or 2 points when you get one right, but when you get one wrong, it can take up to 20 points away. And to get back up to where you were, you need to answer about 6 questions. I have spent hours on some of my IXLs before and most of the times, I have multiple assigned by multiple teachers.

I'll has caused me so much anxiety. The smartphone system is so stupid, just building a child up just to knock them down again. I spend 5 hours on one little practice because of the point system being so rigged. My mind gets so fuzzy after a while and I can't focus on this crap. It's so harsh on students.

Tips for educators and parents: do not buy this! Has given my friends severe depression and aanxiety.makes me so mad at this app for giving me so much anxiety from this

Learning Website
November 29, 2020

The Real-time diagnostic is a great feature that helps students to know their weakness; however, it can be stressful for students. In my opinion, students can grow faster to gain an excellent result, but I would suggest using Beestar. It is another learning website that provides reasonable problems and worksheets each week to help students to gain more experience on study to build a great foundation to challenge other high level exercises.

Take down IXL!
January 11, 2023

IXL is the worst website to possibly use in school. It's "Smart Score" system is not at all smart, quite frankly it is rigged. You can answer 15 questions to get up to an 85, then drop down 20 points because of a single wrong answer. And a note to parents and teachers: Do not put your kids through this, Districts across the United States have had to replace devices because of kids raging while doing IXL.

IXL is the worst thing for students. It does not give clear data for them to learn. It lowers their self esteem and makes them hate learning. I do not recommend IXL. It does the opposite of what its made for.

Stressful
February 25, 2022

This does not help me learn in the slightest. It's undermining and horrid. You can answer 100 questions, and still have to keep going to get the PERFECT score. If I answer a question and it's worded differently it will mark it wrong and give no credit. Sometimes i get it half right and receive half credit(good) however, I get nothing at times even if it's completely correct. My school uses this so it's an even worse problem. This is a GRADE. I'm in highscool, ixl messing me up.
