Please dont do ixl, i failed many of my classes because of it and now im homeless, I am typing on a library computer and i wish you to not do what i did an dont do ixl.
ALSO for teachers it makes your kids stressed and insacure, my friend is in the mental hospital no :(
I am a 7th grader in Middle School and my school recently introduced IXL into their curriculum. I hate it, most people at my school hate it. The Smart Score System is too punishing and the Diagnostic takes far too long only for my score to drop every time I take it. I see people destroying their chromebooks all the time because of this. Not to mention the lawsuit on them over alleged claims of stealing data from all users who could even be me. Not to Brag but also to Brag but I have an A in all but 1 of my class (P.E somehow) but my IXL Diagnostic score does not correlate at all with it. I am in 7th grade and my measurement skills are 3rd grade level according to them. This is not as important but names for all the measurements of student preformence given to teachers by the IXL salesmen are really weird like "Starburst," and a bunch of other weird names that they don't tell us about. There are many reports about how it's bad for your mental health and other stuff and I think it's true. The Smart Score also turns homework that is 20 minutes long at max to 1 hour and 36 minutes. I am serious It took that long on 1 homework assignment. If you are a school administration member or teacher or parent reading this, please don't use IXl, there are cheaper and better alternatives.
It is so so annoying! I am so stressed and cried several times! I got a 80 and it went all the way to 70! Like it was saying chose what looks equal on all sides, and there was this shape that was sometimes and sometimes NOT equal. It was SOoo annoying! It wanted me to break my compputer! Yall shouldnt do IxL! Takes me FOREVER!
IXL SUCKS just like I READY they are the same and i DO ixl alot just like iready and i want to have my weekend off but i have TODO BOTH AND THERE LONG FOR NO REASON AND THEY PUT THINGS THAT WE CANT UNDERSTAND
So at the start of this year my school got IXL. I heard they paid money for this horrible program. We're required to do 30 minutes per week at my school, which isn't bad but that's not the point. It punishes mistakes very harshly the better you do. Earlier today I was doing something about stuff in ads and I literally forgot what the 3 options and how they work are now, and I got into the "challenge zone" and then made a few mistakes and my smart score dropped drastically, this would continue for a good while until i got so frustrated that I spent almost ~20 minutes on a single IXL, and my puberty brain lashed out and purposely made mistakes until the smart score was at 0, then I exited out of IXL and my mood was absolutely obliterated. I can't imagine, this costed money, im not sure how much, but if you're considering getting IXL for your school or self, don't, I'll save you the money and frustration.
I hate IXL so much, here is why-
IXL almost seems like a lazy thing for teachers so they don't have to grade papers or print worksheets. Because my teachers assign so much work for us that it's just way too overwhelming. Also the smart score... my god The smart score it's just awful and if you get a question right it only gives you like 3 or 4 points to your smart score- BUT when you get one wrong it sets you back by like 6 or 7 points! It's just not fair at all. Also, you have t get 80% or better at my school- so going back to the smart score- let's say that you are at 70% then you get like 1 or 2 wrong... in only a couple of minutes, you will be all the way down to like 50 percent! It's just not fair and that's why I and everyone in my class hates IXL.
I think IXL does a great job of covering the curriculum, and its analytics section is a great tool for figuring out trouble spots. My only big complaint is that the consequences for getting a question wrong are too great. When your at say 99% of the lesson and you get a question wrong Ixl will deduct points so that your at 80% which in some lessons can equate to 30 - 40 minutes of work lost. If IXL would change this so you only went back 1 - 2 questions I would definitely give a four possibly even a five-star rating.
As a 6th grader that is required to use this, the website is mediocre. It is certainly better than I-Ready, but still has plenty of flaws.
My biggest problem is the smart scoring. My math teacher makes us go to at least 70 SS for each lesson, and let's us choose whether we go higher. The thing is: it is super hard to rise it. Get one question wrong? Lose 9 SS! Get one question right? Get 2 SS! There was this one lesson that everyone in my English class had to take an hour for, which is my entire period duration! We are even advanced, and it was a fifth grade standard.
IXL works fine as a PRACTICE platform. IXL does it's job, except when teachers have the ability to assign multiple extremely easily. I do find the Smart Score function to be quite interesting on paper, but rather ends up being a nuisance. A suggestion is to add checkpoints to prevent someone from losing all their progress from not getting enough sleep. Other than that the platform is more than mid, it does the job. Thanks for reading my review!
Hello Everyone,
I'm a parent of two kids, both of whom use IXL for class.
IXL can feel like punishment/torture for kids who don't understand the subject. I feel like IXL is made to prepare for a test, not to learn.
It's hard to get 100; when you get a question correct, you go forward less than 5 points, and when you get a question wrong, you go back 5–10 points. They make you simplify, which is probably very annoying. The point system is unfair, and can give kids stress and anxiety, but the good thing about it is that it shows kids how bad their grades can get if they don't know a subject.
What worries me, is that my kids told me the explanations are really confusing, and you have to go to YouTube or another website to actually learn what they're trying to teach you.
Thank you for listening,
A somewhat concerned parent
This review section got turned into a trash fire xd. ...
This site has a couple of problems... Adding a space to answers will usually net you a response that it was wrong despite the numbers in your answer being correct and that can really put you in a bad mood.
The other thing is that It does not have an outright guide on how to do each lesson before you start answering questions so It doesn't do very much in the respects of actually teaching you without a school teacher over your shoulder / virtual meet...
That's all my beef about it really.
I understand peoples pain! Boy! It huts so much when the smart score goes down. But it teaches you a lot. Many people are so over dramatic. I use it quite often!*
Thanks to ixl i did get a very good score in my test. But if i use it for to long it can get depressing...I struggle with maths and my class never lets me learn english (trouble maker) But still it teaches me a lot...Hopefully this show that it is not bad but not amazing<3
*not in an npc by the way
Study Island may be fun, but IXL tries to spice things up by giving you awards.
But I had to struggle on one lesson and answer 55 questions. I mean, can't you at least give a hint, or something?
Although when you start, you gain 20 but when it is time for the challenge, you gain 1 or 2 points, but if you get ONE wrong, landslide back 10 or 11 or 12.
Everything is perfect. Basically, people say that you bump back a lot when you do IXL, but in my perspective, that just helps the students by continuing harder, and that's just my opinion, hope y'all will agre
It is very effective as a supplemental math support. It should not be the only curriculum. It is helping the student with their regular math and bridging the gap between grade level and skill level. In the above image, IXL is correct. It is 12.11 only get you 77 forks so you need another pack to get to 12. This was probably supported in the video and the student would ask their parent or teacher for support. It should not done all alone. That's not what it is designed for.
IXL can be frustrating when you get a wrong answer, however it is an excellent source for practice. It shows in detail how to solve each math problem you got wrong. It's a much better resource than Study Island (although anything is better than Study Island, LOL). Just be patient to read the reason you got the answer wrong, without thinking about the 10 points you lost.
I'm in waskom and my teacher want us to do IXL AND NOREDINK AND IM SICK OF THIS I DONT DERSEBVD ThiS PUNISHMENT THis is BULL$#*! and when I try to do something for another class my teacher will tell me to do IXL AND I SPRED THE WORD TO GWT Rid of ixl and NoRED INK so every studen spred this word to your class IXL and noredink suck we don't derseved this as little ones.
Ixl is very bad. When i click "need a break?" it takes me to another lesson. Its terrible. Gives me bad thoughts. Crash out
In my elementary school I was assigned to do IXL. Those were the worst days of my life! Literally! I hate it! I broke my iPad because of it. If you're a parent, never download IXL! It so hard and it take all of my sainity to do one skill. IXL is an app that i want to stab a knife through.
Its so frustrating to have to do IXL inside and outside school, its so time consuming and basically useless. The only thing IXL has ever taught me is how to cheat better. Second,It makes no sense! Not just the material there teaching you its the overall website. When you get a question right or wrong it will give/take away points. But the part that I have the most problems with is why it takes away more points then it gives points, and i would spend hours trying to complete a skill. It's honestly just a big waste of time for everyone.
Answer: SCAM! IXL is the worst learning site I have ever seen!
Answer: Dunno. Just please, dont use it and if your forced to do it as an assinment beg your teacher to quit cause IXL is annoying s he11.
Answer: To be a scam to get 20 dollars a month for every person who falls in. Also to be the worlds best torture device for kids under 18
Answer: Sadly No... Unless you use Inspect element to fake scores everytime you open it.
Answer: Probably nobody. Unless a bigwig government official who REMEMBERS WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE A KID actually looks at IXL for a literal freaking nanosecond goes, "This is actually horrible!" Unfortunately, the odds of that happening are so low that it probably won't happen in my lifetime.
Answer: * That's an asterisk. You have probably seen what it does.
Answer: It is really good it gives lessons and videos how to do it and if you buy yearly subscription it is 10% of and it improved my sons grades, but it has some errors.
Answer: Yes, but it would require everyone currently paying for it and funding it to pull out.
