Some very knowledgable posters, especially on different prospects. I'm able to get info on 100+ players in the draft every year thanks to HF.
The mods are maybe a bit strict, but certainly not unfair. Those complaining about them are probably trolls that got justifiably banned.
I've had some good laughs on HF over the years and have had some great hockey talks. Highly recommended if you like hockey at all.
For about a year or so it's all about INFOLINKS. These adds pop up every 30 seconds. They block 30-50 percent of the screen. The best part is when you try to X out the adds the screen always jumps just as you try to click out and puts you into an add. This is the only site I have ever been on that has this jump built right in. The site use to be fun especially the live game threads. Unfortunately for me the fun is drowned out by the never ending INFOLINKS battle. Stay safe all.
The mods there are usually pretty fair and will explain the rules when asked. Anyone crying "nazi" probably got banned for trolling and is crying about it after the fact.
HfBoards is a good place to go for hockey fans to debate their team's roster
Not a place for Leaf fans. Pathetic business model of letting western fans abuse Leaf fans who get banned if they defend themselves. Mods generally do not understand their own rules or what trolling is. Other bizarre features include not allowing criticism of Eklund. A classic example of people with no social skills tripping over their petty little Mod powers. Stay away!
Simply put, this is not a website for fans. There are a certain number of regulars who control the board and who have their agenda.
Do the owners of these sports franchises want this? If so, that's a bigger problem altogether I suppose.
Whatever the case, do yourself a favor and stay away!
A poorly run forum filled with trashy, highly intrusive pop-up ads, (ad-blocker is MANDATORY, hence the domain name) where real hockey discussion is impossible to take place due to dumb as a rock, over zealous moderators that spend several hours a day scrambling through every post free of charge deleting every one that doesn't fit their personal narrative. God forbid you say something negative about one of the teams they root for as you'll see your account limited instantly since this is the only real form of control they have in their sad sack lives. Do yourself a favor and don't bother wasting your time posting on this travesty of a website outside of a throw away account to troll for a quick laugh.
If the rules of the site applied to the moderators themselves, it would be fine, because after a certain period of time, many -- if not most -- of the moderators would get banned and there would some staff fluctuation.
As it is, mods change very little. They don't get banned. They are free to bully you, warn you, ban you -- and there is absolutely nothing you can do. They give you a ridiculous 'report' form that does not lead anywhere.
Whoever compared it to the Nazi Germany or Stalinism got it perfectly right.
The site is terrible.
I do post over there mostly because there aren't any real sites to post not anymore. What's bothersome is the hypocrisy. For instance the moderators are quick to warn, block or ban members if there's any hint of sexist remarks, yet one of their main sponsors is a dating site filled with pictures of half-dressed women.
The other item is how in the last few weeks a Flyers player refuse to wear the Pride Jersey and a week later the Rangers did so as well. This was a sponsored event between these two teams with the lgbtq+ community that did not fulfill expectations. Thus there was controversy.
However at HFboards no one was allowed to start threads or even mention what happened in both situations. Plus the moderators posted warnings on their sites of the consequences of "outsiders" leaving comments.
There are plenty things wrong of what the NHL does, whether it's being involved in politics, racial equality or the lgbtq+ community. The NHL willingly is involved in all three aspects, but it is not an open discussion at HF boards.
Thus the hypocrisy.
Is this place, hfboards a joke? And why are the mods such huge racists?
In a thread called "Are TV ratings expected to drop?"
I wrote in that thread:
"In the Nba? Yes, Expect That People Are Tired of the Low Iq Fools in That League, I Expect Baseball and Hockey to Get Better Ratings Because of That"
Then i get a ban in the category: Ethnic/Racial/Gender Slurs (Warning)
Ehh, what? Where did i mention any of that?
Ohh, it's just the moderator that assumes i am talking about race, he/she thinks that there is only one type of race in the NBA... i thought there where both black, white and asian players...
So i would not have gotten a warning if i had called NHL players low iq?
Since i wrote about the NBA the moderators, just assume i am talking about black players, when there are white players as well in the NBA. When that person see "NBA" he/she immediately thinks "Black!"
Wow, nice racist mods you got hfboards, and then I get banned for it! For what YOU are thinking!
Wow, thanks hfboards mods, you really prove your low IQ.
Awful place
I posted a tweet from a hockey beat writer regarding a substantiated trade rumor. Another user started trolling me because he believed it didn't deserve a thread. There was plenty of conversation going on so I asked him to stop being negative. A mod immediately closed the thread and told me I don't get to tell people what to do...? Politely asking someone to stop trolling didn't get me banned - sending the moderator a message informing him that he was a douchebag is what got the deed done =] HFboards is a joke. HFGermany and the Gestapmods can eat a D.
If you want an honest and open discussion, stay away from this site. The power tripping moderators will shut you down without any reason. The speech police are out in force.
No need to visit that place anymore, the mods got their way. It's as dead and boring as a graveyard. Mission accomplished.
Don't give an opinion that works against the agenda of the moderators. This is certainly not a website for real fans.
Honestly, it's a complete joke. Stay far away!
It's not a legitimate site. It's strictly for organizations to control their own agenda.
Unfortunately real fans aren't wanted.
STAY AWAY! This hockey forum is run by moderators that will ban you if they, or their pals, don't like your opinion. Most of the posters, like TheNemisis, lack any real hockey knowledge anyway. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE if you value your time.
A website TO AVOID! BOUGHT TICKETS FROM A USER ON THIS WEBSITE AND THEY WERE FAKE! I TRIED TO REPORT TO THE MODERATOR AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING! In their rules, they state they can review these messages! Please avoid buying Tickets on HFBOARDS MANY SCAMS! BEHAVE OF THIS!
All i said was ' Stopped reading after the first sentence, keep it short ' The mods must be kids or complete nerds that take their internet hockey opinions too seriously. They don't even know what they are talking about and ban you for disagreeing. These idiots think they know better than the general managers and coaches. What i find interesting is the sheer hatred for Canucks GM Jim Benning. The mods are the ring leaders, seriously, how do you call anyone else a troll after personally attacking a person that spent his entire adult life in hockey. They let one poster create a cartoon called 'Benning ON Empty' with over 100 comics depicting him an Canuck legend Trevor Linden as Gilligan and the Benning as the Captain from Gilligans island. They completly lambast them while smuggly acting like they know how to create a better hockey team. They all chortel and laugh then they troll and ban anyone that disagrees. They have their favorites that call people stupid, then instead of banning them they just edit their posts, a complete farce and it's a real eye opener finding this site. The mods are children that are completly out of conntrol.
Answer: It's because they employ a bunch of children for mods. It's even funnier when you send an email to their contact info. They aren't adults, that's for sure.
Answer: One time I successfully posted an unpopular opinion and didn't get a ban for it. That's about all I can think of.
